CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM WARNER BROS. DOMESTIC CABLE DISTRIBUTION
WARNER BROS. MOVIES MAKE BASIC BETTER CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY Top 5 Box-Office Hit of 2005 CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Good morning. It’s Friday, September 9, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing. Tonight’s Premiere: Saturday Premieres: Sunday Premieres:
Also tonight, BET will air its own telethon tonight from 730p-10p with a growing list of artists, celebs and public figures joining its effort to raise funds for Hurricane Katrina victims. S.O.S (Saving Ourselves): The BET Relief Telethon is a collaboration between BET and the National Urban League, American Red Cross, Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, Essence Communications and several major record labels. More carriage notes on Judge John Roberts’ appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee next week. Court TV will air all of the coverage as well as provide analysis from Alan Dershowitz, as will Ken Starr. Two premieres on VH1 this weekend, both on September 11. My Fair Brady with Christopher Knight (Peter Brady of the Brady Bunch) and Adrianne Curry (the first winner of America’s Next Top Model), who first met when filming Surreal Life 4. Now they have their own reality show as cameras follow their lives together. My Fair Brady kicks off at 930p. And at 1030p is the premiere episode of Breaking Bonaduce. Cameras follow Danny Bonaduce as he moves thru his life with his wife and kids, including appointments with the couple’s therapist. Here is product placement taken to a whole new level. London-based ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi has launched a new division called GUM, created to target the elusive teen and young 20s demo. The idea is simple, according to The Wall Street Journal: Saatchi & Saatchi is offering advertisers a sort of human billboard – that is, owning and naming their own all-female hip-hop band, having their products seen/used/worn on stage and in music videos, and if they want, paying a little extra, have their product names used within the lyrics of the band’s songs. The band made its first appearance last evening at Saatchi & Saatchi offices, and unless you knew any better, you’d never know it was a marketing device. The agency calls this Branded Entertainment, and finds masking advertising within entertainment is a better way to reach this tough young demo. Also coming from GUM, commissioned entertainment for other media including TV, film, cellphones and video games. Top 10 M-F Syndicated Strip Series for the week of Aug 22-28, 2005 ranked by HH Rtg Top 10 M-F Syndicated Strip Series for the week of Aug 22-28, 2005 ranked by A18-49 A memorial service celebrating the life of ABC News anchor Peter Jennings is scheduled for September 20 at New York’s Carnegie Hall at 11a. Jennings died of lung cancer on August 7. A limited number of tickets (no charge) will be made available for the general public, though they will be distributed on a first come first serve basis, and can be obtained at the box office starting at 8am on the 20th. * NEW ORDERS / CASTING / DEVELOPMENT / PRODUCTION *Comedy Central has re-signed Trey Parker and Matt Stone thru the end of 2008. Parker and Stone are the creators of South Park, and they will produce three more seasons of South Park under the deal, 14 episodes per season. They will also continue to write, direct and edit every episode, as they have since the show first premiered in 1997. New episodes of South Park begin airing on October 19 at 10p. Lifetime has ordered up six episodes of Almost Family from Gay Rosenthal Prods, according to Variety. The premise is perhaps an engaged-to-be-married couple’s nightmare – split up and go spend a week with your fiance’s parents. Adding fuel to that fire, the couples are all from very diverse backgrounds. The show is looking at a 2006 debut.* EXECUTIVE MOVES *Warner Bros. Entertainment has pulled in one of its own to become President of the new Warner Bros. Television Group. Bruce Rosenblum will be responsible for the newly-formed division’s global broadcasting, distribution and production including the U.S.’ WB. In addition to increasing Warner Bros.’ TV businesses, Bruce will manage the corporation’s TV production divisions, Telepictures Productions and Warner Bros. Animation. He first arrived at Warner Bros. in 1989 and was most recently EVP. He will report to Warner Bros. Chairman/CEO, Barry M. Meyer. The Board of HIT Entertainment announced the appointment of Patricia Wyatt as President/HIT North America. Patricia’s responsibilities include expanding the existing Consumer Products and Home Entertainment businesses for HIT’s classic preschool brands, as well as launching new content. Based in the company’s New York office, she reports to CEO Bruce Steinberg, and also serves on the company’s Executive Management Board.* RATINGS *Wednesday — A18-49 Analysis: On the strength of So You Think You Can Dance, Fox won the night on Wednesday according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research, with a 2.6/8 A18-49.
