Good morning. It’s Monday October 10, 2016, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Tonight’s Premieres:
CBS: 2 Broke Girls at 9p
CW: Supergirl at 8p
HGTV: Masters of Flip at 9p

Tonight’s Finale:
TLC: Too Close to Home at 9p

IN THE NEWS

Comedy Central renewed @midnight with Chris Hardwick, with a season four 40-week order for 2017. “I defy anyone to find a show with a higher joke-per-minute ratio,” said net president Kent Alterman. The late-nighter moved to the 11:30p slot after the cancellation of The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore.

New research from Hulu say many people are so eager to join the conversation about TV shows that they lie about having watched them. According to the study, 46 percent of 18-49 year olds admitted to fibbing about watching a show; the number jumps to 55 percent for 18-34 year olds. Men are the biggest liars, with 62 percent in the 18-49 demo copping to being less than truthful versus 32 percent of women.

Broadcast shows have more time shifted viewing than cable programming, according to TiVo Research. During 2Q16, 26 percent of broadcast prime time programming was time-shifted, versus 12 percent for cable nets, through seven days. CW had the biggest percentage of time-shifted viewing (44 percent), followed by Fox (32 percent), CBS (29 percent), ABC (27 percent) and NBC (25 percent). Cable leaders in time shifting were MSNBC (19 percent), Food Network (15 percent) and Fox News, USA and TBS (12 percent).

Showtime is hosting a pop-up store with Twin Peaks merch at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in LA. The effort is in support of the Festival of Disruption, a music, art and film event with artists selected by Peaks creator David Lynch; proceeds go to the David Lynch Foundation. The Twin Peaks reboot debuts on Showtime in 2017.

ADVERTISING

Coors Light’s new campaign includes a documentary-style spot focused on fashion designer Shezi. The branded content piece, part of a web series, is noticeably short on suds. Instead, the series “is a way for us to focus on fresh, diverse voice in culture,” said a rep for agency 72andSunny in AdWeek. (For more on the latest ad strategies, register for the October 20 webinar, How to Sell and Produce the Branded Content Advertisers Need Now.)

Maybe not all publicity is good publicity. Following the Washington Post’s release on Friday of a 2005 Access Hollywood hot mic conversation in which Donald Trump made vulgar comments about women, including, “I’m going to use some Tic Tacs in case I start kissing her,” about a soap opera actress, the company tweeted: “Tic Tac respects all women. We find the recent statements and behavior completely inappropriate and unacceptable.”

Promotional partners for GSN’s upcoming merchandising competition Window Warriors include, appropriately enough, Macy’s, Anthropologie, Hot Topic, Lush and Sprinkles. Crafts retailer Michael’s also jumped in with materials used to create windows for the show. GSN partnered with General Growth Properties, owner and operator of 128 retail properties, for the show, launching Tuesday, November 15 at 9p.

Carlos Bernard will reprise the role of Tony Almeda on Fox’s upcoming 24:Legacy, premiering February 5 after the Super Bowl.

Bridgit Mendler (Undateable) has been cast in a recurring role on Nashville. Season 5 of the country music drama launches on CMT Thursday, January 5 at 9p.

Marvel-ous news: Rosario Dawson (Daredevil) has been added to the cast of Netflix’s Marvel’s Iron Fist, debuting March 17. The announcement was made at New York Comic-Con. Also shared at the event was the news that Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil) nabbed a role on the streaming service’s The Punisher, arriving in 2018. And Sigourney Weaver will play “a significant but unspecified” role on Marvel’s The Defender.

Tina Fey played a spot-on Sarah Palin for Saturday Night Live ahead of the 2008 election. Now fellow 30 Rock alum Alec Baldwin is winning raves as Donald Trump. Who would you vote for for best political impression? Let us know in the new Cynopsis poll.
