As of yesterday, former NFL star and FOX NFL Sunday broadcaster Michael Strahan joined Kelly Ripa as co-host of the morning syndicated talk show, LIVE! with Kelly and Michael. The search for a new co-host following the departure of Regis Philbin late last year, took nine months and Strahan had made several guest appearances on the show and co-hosted with Ripa more than twenty times during the last two years. LIVE! with Kelly and Michael is distributed in national syndication by Disney-ABC Domestic Television and is produced by WABC-TV in New York with executive producer Michael Gelman.
British chefs challenge American chefs in BBC America’s newest original series from Executive Producer Jamie Oliver when Chef Race: U.K. vs. US debuts with two stacked episodes on October 2 at 9p and 10p. A special preview of the first episode will air September 29 at 10p following the midseason finale of Doctor Who. Chef Race: U.K. vs. US continues in its regular time period of Tuesdays at 10p beginning October 9. The series watches as eight Brits compete against eight Americans as they race across the country in a 4,000-mile road trip using their culinary and business skills with a grand prize of $100,000 at stake. London restaurateur, Richard Corrigan (Masterchef) is a mentor and judge and Claire Robinson hosts the series. Chef Race: U.K. vs. US is produced by Fresh One Productions for BBC America.
New original reality series Curvy Girls premieres on nuvoTV September 18 at 9p followed by two extra episodes airing at 10p and 1030p. Curvy Girls takes a look at the lives of four plus-sized Latina models working in the competitive world of modeling.
TBS ordered a second season of its new sitcom Sullivan & Son which presently airs on Thursdays at 10p. To date, the comedy is average more than 2.5 million viewers during season one. TBS ordered 10 episodes for the second season slated to return in 2013. Sullivan & Son is produced by Wild West Television in association with Warner Horizon Television.
FX’s fall schedule was revealed with premiere dates for several returning series. Sons of Anarchy is back for a fifth season kicking off with a 90-minute episode on September 11 at 10p. The Ultimate Fighter Fridays bows September 14 with a two-hour premiere at 9p with the series settling into its 10p time slot the next week. October 11 marks the eighth season debut of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia at 10p followed by the fourth season of The League at 1030p and Russell Brand’s late-night talk show BrandX. And, lastly the second season of anthology series American Horror Story: Asylum opens October 17 at 10p.
In time for the Halloween holiday, Food Network rolls out a second season of Halloween Wars beginning October 7 at 9p. The four-episode competition series airs weekly and watches as five teams consisting of a pumpkin carving artist, a cake decorator and a candy craftsman battle it out to create Halloween-themed displays. Justin Willman (Cupcake Wars) hosts the series which features two judges: cake decorator Shinmin Li and special effects, make-up artist and horror actor/director Tom Savini as well as a rotating guest judge each week including Shawnee Smith, Rutina Wesley, Chaske Spencer and Sara Canning.
Drama and glamour are returning to Sunday nights on Style Network when a third season of Big Rich Texas and a second season of Glam Fairy debuts back-to-back on October 7. Big Rich Texas opens at 8p introducing a new diva while Glam Fairy follows Alexa as she plans her wedding. Big Rich Texas is produced by Fly On The Wall Entertainment while Glam Fairy is from Endemol USA.
A new season of Pit Bulls and Parolees debuts on Animal Planet in a new city beginning October 6 at 10p. Tia Torres, who has spent the last 20 years building her pit bull rescue, Villalobos in California, is re-locating her family and her shelter to New Orleans. In the new season, viewers will see Torres rebuild a new pit bull shelter as she helps the breed and parolees in a new city. Pit Bulls and Parolees is produced for Animal Planet by Rive Gauche Television and 44 Blue Productions.
Music Choice pays tribute to Hispanic Heritage Month starting yesterday with a month-long music celebration through October 14. Sunday’s midseason finale of AMC’s Breaking Bad at 10p tallied 2.8 million total viewers, +47% better than the season four finale. The 10p airing also delivered 1.7 million among A18-49 and 1.5 million A25-54 viewers. Sunday’s episode concluded the first half of season five and the final eight episodes of Breaking Bad will air next summer.

Oprah Winfrey Network: OWN picked up the exclusive cable rights to Rachael Ray and the now-cancelled The Nate Berkus Show. Both shows are produced in part by Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Studios. Rachael Ray, which launched in 2006, joins OWN from CBS Television Distribution and will air episodes from the first five seasons back-to-back on weekdays at 9a beginning September 10. Rachael Ray is also produced by CBS Television Distribution, Watch Entertainment and Scripps Network. The Nate Berkus Show, produced by Harpo Studios and Sony Pictures Television ran as a nationally syndicated show from September 13, 2010 to May 24, 2012 before it was cancelled. OWN acquired The Nate Berkus Show from Harpo Studios and will air episodes from its two seasons beginning September 10 with back-to-back episodes at 11a.
24/7 Jewish Life Television (JLTV) has secured recent clearances in two of Comcast’s largest regions. As of August 29, JLTV launched in Comcast’s Freedom Region consisting of Greater Philadelphia, Northern Delaware and New Jersey equal to nearly two million Comcast cable subscribers. As of today, JLTV is launching in Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana on Comcast adding close to two million more Comcast subscribers in these areas. Following these two launches, JLTV is now available via cable in the top 5 metropolitan areas with the largest Jewish populations in the US including New York/New Jersey, Los Angeles, South Florida, Philadelphia and Chicago.
REELZCHANNEL made a deal with nightlife media and marketing company Zoom Media & Marketing, to expand its coverage on the ZOOM Fitness Network. This new partnership will bring REELZCHANNEL’s original programming to more than 1800 fitness clubs nationwide.
The Inspiration Networks announced its flagship network INSP is now available in Comcast’s Freedom Region of Greater Philadelphia and New Jersey via the Xfinity TV lineup. INSP is now available in more than 72 million households across the US via cable and DBS.
The Me-TV Network added a trio of new affiliates. Me-TV Network will take over the primary channel position on KWSD/Sioux Falls, replacing The CW Plus beginning September 10. In addition, WIBW/Topeka will launch Me-TV Network starting September 10 and WHSV/Harrisonburg, VA will launch the network starting September 24.

CBS is moving forward with Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop television project. The network gave the project a pilot production commitment which is being billed as a sequel to the film trilogy that starred Murphy as a Detroit cop working in Beverly Hills. Shawn Ryan (The Last Resort) will serve as show-runner which is about Axel Foley’s son, Aaron, a cop working in Beverly Hills as he tries to escape his famous father’s shadow. Murphy will reprise his role as the wise-cracking detective and will recur if the project is picked up to series. Ryan will write the script and serve as EP along with his MiddKid Productions partner Marney Hochman and Murphy.
After a two-year hiatus, Jillian Michaels is re-joining NBC’s The Biggest Loser for its 14th season that highlights overweight teens as members of the adult teams. The Biggest Loser premieres its new season in January and Michaels is one of the trainers along with Bob Harper and Dolvett Quince.
Former BET 106 & Park co-host Terrence Jenkins joins E! as Anchor along with Giuliana Rancic of E! News. Jenkins begins his new gig on November 12. He will also contribute personality profiles and original reporting segments.
It was announced yesterday an investor group comprised of Guggenheim Partners, Mandalay Entertainment and Mosaic Media Investment Partners reached a definitive agreement to purchase Dick Clark Productions from RedZone Capital Management. Exact financial terms of the deal were not disclosed though it has been reported the buyers were willing to pay 10% more than the $350 million requested by Dick Clark Productions. That would place the transaction price at approximately $385 million. Dick Clark Productions has a content portfolio that includes the Golden Globe Awards, the American Music Awards, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and So You Think You Can Dance.
Music-themed cable network, Fuse and part of the Madison Square Garden Company is creating a dedicated news division and welcoming a half-hour daily news shows to its lineup. Fuse News will broadcast live, Monday through Friday from the channel’s studio on Seventh Avenue in Manhattan. New York anchors include Ashanti, Elaine Moran and Alexa Chung while Jack Osbourne will anchor from Los Angeles. An exact debut date for Fuse News was not announced.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: As the holiday weekend began, Univision won Friday among A18-49 at 1.4/5, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, Por Ella Soy Eva did best at 1.3/5 and ABC’s Shark Tank repeat was next at 0.9/4. Univision remained planted in first place through 9p with Abismo de Pasion at 1.5/5 and ABC also stayed in second place with a 20/20 encore at 1.1/4. Univision polished off the final win of the night during 10p as Amor Bravio delivered a 1.3/4 followed by ABC once again with a second 20/20 rebroadcast at 0.9/3.
