With Spanish-language Univision‘s telenovela line-up often topping the broadcast nets in A18-49 this summer, NBC is moving full-steam ahead into limited-run soaps. The net is developing three series with Electus, including The Black Widow, an adaptation of a smash hit Venezuelan telenovela. “These stories clearly have resonance across all cultures and nationalities,” said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke.

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

The season three premiere of Showtime‘s Homeland was leaked online, and more than 100,000 copies were downloaded in the first few hours, according to news site TorrentFreak. The pirated version of the 20th Century Fox-produced drama is similar to the unfinished print TV reporters were given at the TCA tour in July. Official premiere date for the series is Sunday, September 29 at 9p.

CBS and Time Warner Cable came to terms on Monday after a month-long retrans fee stand-off, but BTIG media analyst Richard Greenfield warns Cynopsis the fighting isn’t over. “Retransmission consent battles between broadcasters and MVPDs are getting worse as the video marketplace evolves far faster than the laws that govern it,” says Greenfield. “We hope Time Warner Cable’s battle with CBS planted seeds for change at both the FCC and congress.”

Still without CBS and NBC affiliates are more than 600,000 of TWC’s subscribers in smaller markets, thanks to the cabler’s retrans battle with Journal Broadcast Group. After TWC’s deal with CBS was announced, Journal CEO Andre Fernandez said, “We are hopeful we can now reach a mutually beneficial agreement with Time Warner Cable.”

Rapper Rob Van Winkle, aka Vanilla Ice, learns the art of hand craftsmanship in DIY‘s Vanilla Ice Goes Amish. More than 8 million viewers tuned in to the Ice Ice Baby singer’s DIY renovation series, The Vanilla Ice Project, making it the second-highest rated show A25-54 on the net. Series, from Juma Entertainment, premieres Saturday, October 12 at 10p.

Singer Tamar Braxton and her record exec hubby Vince Herbert return for a sophomore season of hit WE tv reality doc Tamar & Vince, after season one of the Magical Elves production drew 5.6 million total viewers. Their marriage will face some challenges, but Braxton assures Cynopsis the show “helped us keep an open line of communication.” Premiere airs Thursday, September 5 at 9p.

E-cigarette makers like Lorillard, NJoy and Fin might not be buying TV time to market their electronic inhalers for much longer. A report from financial services group CLSA Americas says the FDA will likely propose a ban on TV advertising for e-cigs when it reviews the issue in October. TV ads for cigarettes were banned in 1970.

As if evil twins weren’t enough. Soap One Life to Live, which migrated to the web a year after its 2012 cancellation by ABC, has suspended production as Prospect Park deals with its lawsuit alleging that ABC sabotaged the online project by borrowing two One Life characters ahead of the drama’s online debut and killing them off on General Hospital.

Season three of Wilfred on FX wraps up Thursday, September 5, when Jenna bars Ryan from seeing his canine pal, Wilfred. Chris Klein tells Cynopsis, “Drew was supposed to be a first season guest star role, but the story between Jenna and Drew resonated with people.” Finale airs at 10p.

Anthony Anderson (Guys With Kids) will host NBC game show Wall of Fame. No premiere date for the Endemol, USA series, in which families will guess which celebrities answer trivia questions correctly, has been announced.

Yogurt’s making a comeback in the big game. Dannon was the first yogurt brand to crash the chips-and-beer Super Bowl party, marketing its Oikos Greek variety in 2012, but passed in 2013 as it evaluated whether the brand was a keeper. Having decided it is, Dannon’s back in with a 30-second spot, airing on Fox on Super Bowl Sunday, February 2.

Netflix is making good on CEO Reed Hastings‘ promise to shareholders to expand into original stand-up specials. Comedy special Notorious and four-part docu-series Russell Peters Vs. the World, both featuring internationally popular stand-up star Peters, premiere Monday, October 14.

It’s a Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-1977) reunion on Hot In Cleveland tonight, as Moore, Valerie Harper and Cloris Leachman join series star Betty White and recurring cast member Georgia Engel. The TV Land ep, titled “Love Is All Around,” airs at 10p. (Anyone else getting the urge to toss a hat?)

Former ABC News foreign correspondent Jim Sciutto, most recently chief of staff for U.S. Ambassador to China Gary Locke, has signed on as CNN Chief National Security Correspondent. He’ll report and analyze news on foreign policy, terrorism and the military.

Music net Fuse is launching a docu-series about New Orleans hip hop artist Big Freedia (aka Freddie Ross). Eight eps, from World of Wonder (Life With LaToya), explore the Big Easy music scene, starting Wednesday, October 2 at 11p.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Miami Heat star LeBron James is developing a show with Starz about how two men from the streets, one now an NBA star, deal with success. James won’t star in Survivor’s Remorse, but will exec produce with longtime friend and business partner Maverick Carter, as well as Tom Werner (Roseanne), actor Mike O’Malley (Glee) and Paul Wachter.

~ RETURNING SERIES ~

True Blood‘s seventh season will be its last. HBO has announced the vampire drama starring Anna Paquin will end after the 10 eps scheduled for 2014.

Naomi Campbell is welcoming two supermodels, Anne V and Lydia Hearst, as coaches on the sophomore season of Oxygen‘s The Face. The modeling competition, produced by Shine America, will return in early 2014.

MTV‘s FriendZone returns for season four with a twist. One best friend will confess their romantic feelings for the other on a surprise date, but this time around the unsuspecting object of affection will have a bombshell confession as well. The 495 Productions reality show returns Monday, September 9 at 6p.

~ CASTING NEWS ~

ABC Family is spreading the wealth. The net has cast Lucy Hale, star of its hit series Pretty Little Liars, in a guest role on season three of the net’s Baby Daddy. Season two summer finale for Daddy is Wednesday, September 4 at 8:30p; Liars has been renewed for season five in 2014.

~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~

Global entertainment firm Content Media has added Finland’s Aito Media to its portfolio, with a 50 percent investment in the production house. The companies will share formats and production ideas, and Content will distribute Aito’s titles in the international market.

Canada’s Family Channel is taking aim at bullying in its “Stand Up and Shout” campaign, which encourages bystanders to intervene when they see bullying behavior. The net will air anti-bullying eps from series like Good Luck Charlie and Wizards of Waverly Place from November 18-24.
