NBC renews ratings juggernaut The Voice for two more seasons, Spring 2013 and Fall 2013. The show recently announced Shakira and Usher as judges for the Spring 2013 season, which will be the show’s fourth cycle. They’ll be filling in for Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera, due to existing commitments of those stars. The show won the 18 to 49 demo on Monday.
ABC picks Sean Lowe as its next man looking for love in the 17th season of The Bachelor starting in January 2013. Lowe is well known to viewers from his stint on the eighth season of The Bachelorette. He was the last bachelor eliminated by Emily Maynard that season. The 28-year-old Lowe is a Dallas businessman and ABC bills him as an all-American guy.
FEARnet augments its advertising toolkit with the addition of dynamic ad insertion capabilities in its free VOD content, the network said. Sony Pictures Television handles ad sales for the TV, VOD and online horror network and has begun inserting dynamic VOD spots, using Canoe software and services, for 10 advertisers including Volvo, Focus Features (for ParaNorman), Anchor Bay Entertainment (for the DVD of the second season of The Walking Dead), Starz (for Breathless and Piranha 3DD) and Magnolia Pictures (for VHS). Dynamic ad insertion in VOD mimics the process of delivering ads in linear TV, allowing for faster updating and reporting, FEARnet said. The network has delivered more than 650 million VOD views since launch.
The second season of Travel Channel’s The Layover with Anthony Bourdain is slated to premiere on November 19 at 9p. In this season’s first episode the host descends on Chicago and will also visit Atlanta, Dublin, New Orleans, Paris, Philadelphia, Sao Paolo, Seattle, Taipei and Toronto this season. A companion app will include points of interest for each of those cities.
Bravo’s season four finale of The Real Housewives of New Jersey on Sunday snagged its best ratings for the season with 3.4 million total viewers and 2 million adults 18-49, up 24 percent and 36 percent from the week before, the network said.
Lifetime’s new docuseries The Houstons: On Our Own is scheduled to premiere October 24 at 9p with double episodes of the show that will follow the family of the late pop icon Whitney Houston. Lifetime has slated 14 half-hour episodes for the season.
Sundance Channel plans to premiere the sixth season of interview series Iconoclasts on October 9 at 8 p with a line-up that includes screenwriter Judd Apatow, actress Lena Dunham, actor James Franco, screenwriter and director Seth MacFarlane, musician Norah Jones and more.

Logo picks up classic sitcom Bewitched, premiering it October 14 at 10:30a in an all-day marathon before the show assumes its regular time period from 7p-10p on Wednesdays.

USA picks up seasons for three top-performing dramas Royal Pains, White Collar and Covert Affairs. Royal Pains snags a 26-episode pickup spanning two additional seasons, with season five from Universal Cable Productions starting production in 2013. White Collar earns a 16-episode pickup for its fifth season, which Fox Television Studios will begin filming in 2013. Covert Affairs garnered a 16-episode pick-up as well for the fourth season of the Universal Cable Productions show.
Tina Fey inks a four-year deal with Universal Television to develop new projects that she may potentially also star in, The Hollywood Reporter said.
CMT greenlights 10 episodes of Dog, a new docu-series from Electus profiling well-known TV figure Dog the Bounty Hunter and his wife Beth Chapman as they help fellow bail bondsmen and bounty hunters who are struggling with their businesses. Production is slated to start in 2013 with a spring or summer debut on CMT.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis: NBC ranked #1 Saturday with a 2.0/7 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. The network’s coverage of the football game between Notre Dame and Michigan scored a 2.0/7 for the evening with a 7p start, with ABC’s broadcast of Clemson at Florida State earning a close second with a 1.8/6 for the evening with an 8p start. The NBC game was tops in each time slot for the night, though in the 9-9:30 slot the ABC game tied with a 1.9/6 rating. CBS had a solid night with repeats, managing a third place finish at 9 p with a 0.9/3 for Crimetime Saturday and a 1.0/3 for 48 Hours Mystery at 10 p.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis: NBC outscored the Emmys Sunday by finishing with a 7.5/20 in the A18-49 demo, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. In the 8p hour, the Primetime Emmy Awards on ABC managed a small margin of victory with a 3.8/11, as NBC’s Football Night in America Part 3 [with a 7:45p start] earned a 3.7/10. CBS’s 60 Minutes delivered a 2.7/7 at the 8p hour, giving it a solid third place at that time. But from the 8:15p kick-off on, NBC owned the night with its telecast of New England at Baltimore that earned an 8.7/23 for the evening, winning by a wide margin in every time slot. The ABC Emmy broadcast finished with a 3.9/10 for a second place victory for the evening.

Monday A18-49 Analysis: NBC belted out another victory in A18-49 Monday with a 4.1/11, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, NBC’s two-hour episode of The Voice outperformed the competition with a 4.4/11 for the time period. However, CBS’s season premiere of hit sitcom How I Met Your Mother won the 8-8:30p slot with a 3.6/11, ahead of The Voice, which snared a 3.5/10 in that half-hour block. The Voice ranked #1 for the rest of its two-hour entry. At 9p, CBS’ premiere of 2 Broke Girls finished second with a 3.7/9, while the network’s Mike & Molly premiere held onto the second spot at 9:30p with its 3.1/8. In the 10p hour, NBC ruled with Revolution garnering a 3.4/9. ABC’s Castle premiere earned a solid 2.1/6, backed by the two-hour premiere of Dancing with the Stars beforehand.
