~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

HBO moved quickly to renew its new series Boardwalk Empire for a second season after the drama debuted Sunday night. Boardwalk Empire’s Sunday at 9p premiere gave the premium cable network its largest debut audience in more than six years (since March 21, 2004 when Deadwood premiered with The Sopranos lead-in). Boardwalk Empire averaged 4.8 million viewers for the first airing at 9p. Additional airings of the show’s opener at 1015p and 1130p, was watched by a combined 7.1 million viewers for the night.

USA Network tapped Vincent D’Onofrio for Law & Order: Criminal Intent’s tenth and final season airing in 2011 with eight all-new episodes. D’Onofrio played Detective Robert Goren for eight seasons. Law & Order: Criminal Intent is produced by Wolf Films and Universal Cable Productions and was created and executive produced by Dick Wolf. USA also gave a pilot commitment for a new project with Wolf Films.

E! announced it is expanding its weeknight E! News program from a 30m format to a one-hour show beginning October 25 at 7p. Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic will continue as primary anchors for the show which will also sport a new set in addition to more reports and exclusives emanating from the show’s team of correspondents. Personalities featured on E!’s Daily 10 news series will become a part of the nightly show and E! News will now include branded segments from Daily 10. The E! News website at E! Online will further re-launch featuring new interactive elements, more 24/7 breaking news and exclusive video content.

MTV offers up an 11th new season of Made next Monday at 4p chronicling stories of how young people are turning their dreams into reality. During this new season, the 200th episode of Made will air directed by a former Made subject, a teen who is pursuing his goal of becoming a film director. A marathon of past Made episodes will also air starting this Saturday at 2p.

Comedy Central launches new episodes of its animated comedy series Ugly Americans starting October 6 at 1030p. The series centers on Mark Lilly (voiced by Matt Oberg) a social worker at the Department of Integration who helps new citizens, human and otherwise adapt to life in New York City. Animation production is from Augenblick Studios and Cuppa Coffee Studios.

Also on October 6, Cartoon Network introduces the new live-action game show, Hole in the Wall at 730p hosted by Teck Holmes. The half-hour game show features two teams of families competing against each other as they attempt to get through moving walls with ever-changing cut-out shapes. Following the premiere of Hole in the Wall, Cartoon Network debuts new episodes of Dude, What Would Happen at 8p and Destroy Build Destroy at 830p. Hole in the Wall is produced by FremantleMedia North America; Dude, What Would Happen is produced by Ping Pong Productions; and Destroy Build Destroy is produced by Idiot Box & Mess Media.

A&E Network returns its real-life series Parking Wars to its schedule for a fourth season beginning October 12 at 1030p. The series follows members of the Philadelphia Parking Authority and Detroit Municipal Parking Department as they hand out tickets and more to problem parkers with sometimes outrageous results. Hybrid Films produces the series for A&E.

Engine Entertainment made a deal with Twentieth Television, Inc. and QED International on the new US syndicated series, Pt. Dume co-created and executive produced by Gregory J. Bonann (Baywatch). The series is set at Pt. Dume, a beautiful and secluded though dangerous beach on Malibu’s shores and is about a group of teens who are serving time in a unique detention program under the supervision of a US Coast Guard member, a lifeguard and a firefighter. Engine Entertainment is involved with global distribution, excluding the US. Twentieth Television, Inc. is handling the domestic distribution and has completed a sale of the series to Tribune Broadcasting Stations, representing 30% of the US, including WPIX/New York, KTLA/Los Angeles, WGN/Chicago, WPHL/Philadelphia, KDAF/Dallas, KIAH/Houston, KCPQ-KZJO/Seattle, WSFL/Miami, KRCW/Portland, WXIN-WTTV/Indianapolis, WTIC-WCCT/Hartford, WGNO-WNOL/New Orleans and WDCW/Washington, D.C. Tribune stations will premiere the weekly one-hour series in 2011. 

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

NBC is moving forward with a CIA drama, Legends from Howard Gordon (24), Jonathan Levin and writer Mark Bomback based on the book by Robert Littell. The one-hour drama is about a CIA operative who routinely develops false identities for himself also referred to as “legends” in agency speak. During missions the operative then wonders if his own identity is fiction. Twentieth Century Fox TV is producing with Bomback penning and executive producing while Levin and Gordon serve as executive producers.

OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network will produce a daily panel talk show which will premiere in January, cites THR. The daytime talk show is in early development stages and at this point the format will feature multiple hosts similar to ABC’s The View.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis:  ABC made it the goal line Saturday night at 2.3/8 with the A18-49 demo, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. Throughout primetime this night, ABC was the highest scorer for its college football double header: at 8p ABC delivered a 2.0/8 followed by two Cops episodes averaging a 1.3/4 for FOX. ABC’s Saturday Night Football pulled in a 2.4/8 during 9p with FOX in second place for AMW: America Fights Back at 1.6/5. ABC’s ratings crept up to 2.5/8 for the 10p hour with more college football and CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery repeat was #2 at 1.2/4.

Sunday  A18-49 Analysis: NBC was up to the task of securing Sunday night at 7.9/21 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 7p, CBS won overall with an 8.5/27 for a combo of CBS NFL National and a 60 Minutes repeat while NBC’s Part 2 and Part 3 of Football Night in America averaged a 2.9/9. NBC took over at 8p by posting a 7.4/21 for the average of Football Night in America 3, Sunday Night NFL Pre-Kick and the actual first minutes of the NY Giants at Indianapolis game. Following in second place during 8p was CBS at 2.4/6 for a combo of 60 Minutes and an Undercover Boss rerun. Then at 9p, NBC jumped up to a 10.2/25 for the NY Giants versus Indianapolis NFL game while double Family Guy encores on FOX averaged a 2.4/6 in second place. NBC polished off its final big win at 10p with an 8.6/22 and CBS played second fiddle with an Undercover Boss repeat and a CSI: Miami rerun averaging a 1.9/5.

Monday  A18-49 Analysis: On the opening night of the new broadcast season, ABC swept into #1 Monday with a 4.3/11 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. Out of the gate first at 8p was ABC’s Dancing with the Stars’ season premiere with a 4.7/13 followed by FOX’s House season debut at 4.2/11; in third place with a 3.3/9 was CBS with the average of new season starts of How I Met Your Mother and Rules of Engagement; in fourth was UNIV’s Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe at 2.1/6; and in fifth place was the season opener of Chuck on NBC at 2.0/6. ABC held first place with the second hour of Dancing with the Stars’ season debut at 5.4/13; CBS was #2 with the season premiere of Two and a Half Men and the new comedy Mike & Molly averaging a 4.4/11 (Mike & Molly posted a 3.9/10 at 930p); NBC’s new series The Event came in third at 3.6/9; UNIV ranked fourth with Soy Tu Duena at 2.6/7; and FOX’s new series Lone Star filed a fifth place showing at 1.3/3. ~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Rich Davis was added at Litton Entertainment as Director/Creative Services and Strategic Planning. Rich will have oversight on all facets of creative services and long-term strategic planning for the company. Prior to this appointment, Rich was head of his own media firm, Davision Media LLC.

Elissa Harman joins Oxygen Media as VP/Consumer Marketing, effective immediately. Elissa will head all consumer marketing initiatives for Oxygen Media, developing promotional efforts and ad campaigns to promote Oxygen’s original programs in addition to media strategy and strategic partnerships. In her new role, she will report to Jane Olson, SVP/Marketing and Brand Strategy. Elissa comes to Oxygen from Comedy Central where she was Director/Consumer Marketing.

Manhattan-based the michael alan group, a non-traditional marketing and event production company, hired Erin Mills, Cresencio Victoria and Elizabeth Walker. Erin previously was a consultant for the company and in her new full-time role she will help grow and diversify the company’s event services and also manage production of bigger programs for current clients. Cresencio and Elizabeth will both assist with daily operations for the company.
