~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Here we go again … According to numerous reports, Jennifer Lopez has inked a one-year deal with FOX to join American Idol for its tenth season as a new judge, tho nothing official from Fox, Nigel Lythgoe, FremantleMedia N.A., or 19 Television as yet. The deal is reportedly worth around $12 million and a more formal announcement is expected in the next several days. The rumors suggest Lopez would join the show right away and be present at auditions happening next week.  But then again, we’ve heard this all before.

Spike TV is bringing back its original scripted sports/comedy series Blue Mountain State for a second season beginning October 20 at 11p. In the second season former NFL player Ed Marinaro returns as Coach Marty Daniels and Denise Richards joins the cast as Daniels’ meddling ex-wife. Blue Mountain State is produced for Spike by Varsity Pictures’ Brian Robbins, Sharla Sumpter Bridgett and Lionsgate. Season one of Blue Mountain State will be released on DVD and Blu-ray Disc on October 5 from Lionsgate.

A&E Network opens a third season of real-life series Billy The Exterminator on September 28 with back-to-back half-hour episodes at 10p and 1030p. In all, twenty new episodes will follow Billy Bretherton and his family-owned pest control business as they tackle creepy, crawly things (including lots of snakes). September Films, a unit of DCD Media produces the series for A&E.

Matchmaking expert Patti Stanger joins Bravo’s lineup in a fourth season of the docu-series The Millionaire Matchmaker starting October 19 at 9p. In the new season, Stanger relocates from L.A. where she attempts to help wealthy, though dating impaired, clients in New York City. Intuitive Entertainment and Bayonne Entertainment, Inc. produce the series for Bravo.

HBO attracted 5.4 million total viewers for the season finale of True Blood Sunday night at 9p with an additional 1.1 million viewers tuning in to the finale episode encore airing at 1130p. Furthermore on Sunday, the season finale of Hung tallied 2.3 million total viewers while the season ender of Entourage netted 2.7 million total viewers.

TNT’s summer season finale of The Closer on Monday at 9p pulled in 7.2 million total viewers followed by the frosh season conclusion of Rizzoli & Isles at 10p with 6.6 million total viewers.

The news wasn’t quite as good for TBS’ original comedy series My Boys.  The network has decided not to renew for a fifth season, and the series finale last Sunday. The sitcom has seen weakened ratings this season despite having a loyal fan base.

Also on Monday, ESPN’s fifth season debut of Monday Night Football gave the network its highest-rated and most-watched opening night. Monday’s performance also helped ESPN win that night’s primetime among all networks (broadcast or cable) in households, viewers and all key male and adult demos. The first game of the doubleheader between the Baltimore Ravens vs. the New York Jets at 7p delivered nearly 15.0 million total viewers. Then at 1015p when the Kansas City Chiefs took on the San Diego Chargers, almost 12.0 million total viewers tuned in.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Film director James Cameron is adapting his 1994 action/comedy spy movie True Lies into a television series. In the film version, Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as a secret agent who leads a double life as a government spy and teams with his wife played by Jamie Lee Curtis.

Comedy Central ordered the pilot Time Trumpet, based on a UK series that aired on BBC2 in 2006, cites THR. Comedy Central picked up the rights to the format with plans to adapt it for US audiences. The original creator, Armando Iannucci will be involved with writing the script and production. The show is described as a historical documentary taking a look at today’s news from a future perspective.  If the Time Trumpet pilot gets a series order, Comedy Central may slate it to premiere in late 2011 or even 2012.
