ABC‘s Modern Family made a splash syndication, debuting at number one in the W18-49 demo among all syndie premieres in over ten years, according to Nielsen. With a 4.1 household rating, the 20th Century Fox Television sitcom was number two in households for the same period, after The Big Bang Theory‘s 2011 launch.

~ IN THE NEWS ~

NBC acquired U.S. rights to Welcome to Sweden, exec produced by Amy Poehler and her brother, Greg Poehler. Greg will star in the fish-out-of-water comedy from Entertainment One based on his own experience moving to Sweden, with cameos from sister Amy, Will Ferrell and Gene Simmons. The show was originally commissioned by Sweden’s TV4 and was the net’s first English-speaking series.

Twitter is rolling out its Amplify partnership with Viacom internationally with the 2013 MTV EMA, airing live from Amsterdam on Sunday, November 10. MTV will offer sponsorship opportunities around the show’s performances and backstage interviews.

Kelly Ripa isn’t all talk. ABC has put into development a sitcom from the Live! With Kelly and Michael host and her former All My Children co-star and husband, Mark Consuelos, about a single mom and her precocious teen. General Hospital: Night Shift scribe Sri Rao will write, and exec produce with the couple for ABC Studios, reports Deadline.

Pivot and Monster.com are going wide with the search for an associate producer for the new net’s late night show, TakePart Live. The hunt for candidates is part of a sponsorship agreement intended to encourage and assist millennial job-seekers. Candidates who are “creative, organized, and thrive under the deadline pressure of live television” can apply at www.takepartlive.com/live.

Santa Barbara wants to lure reality shows to the county with cash rebates. The catch: the shows have to be “on brand,” a county rep told Hollywood Reporter, “driven by themes of romance, culinary, and outdoor aspirational lifestyle.”

Telemundo has launched an education initiative with youth development agency Woodcraft Rangers offering after-school television production courses for students in disadvantaged neighborhoods in the LA area. “This is a great way for Telemundo Media to further develop its relationship with the communities it serves,” said EVP, Chief Diversity Officer at NBCUniversal Craig Robinson, “and kick start the careers of the next generation of broadcasters.”

TV One posted its best quarterly day performance in history across all key demos, up 23 percent in A18-49 in 3Q13 year-over-year. “It seems as soon as we set one network record, we shatter another,” Alfred Liggins, TV One President and CEO tells Cynopsis. “We continue to evolve our programming strategy to meet the tastes and demands of our viewers.” Original primetime series R&B Divas LA and Fatal Attraction were ratings growth drivers.

~ RATINGS ~

NBC took the demo for the third week in a row Monday night, with The Voice drawing a solid 4.6 rating/13 share in the A18-49demo, about even with last week; freshman series The Blacklist dipped just slightly at 3.1/9.

New CBS drama Hostages was down 20 percent from last week in A18-49, to 1.2/3, and We Are Men drew 1.8/5 A18-49. The bright spot: How I Met Your Mother, down just a tenth and still strong at 3.0/9 A18-49.

Saturday’s broadcast of Cedar Cove, the second to last of the season, scored a 2.1 HH rating and 2.2 million total viewers. Since the show’s July debut, Cove has averaged a 2.0 HH rating, making the Hallmark Channel drama the number one cable network show in its time period every Saturday.

Sunday’s mid-season premiere of Long Island Medium, complemented by a Twitter event offering viewers a chance for a reading with Theresa Caputo, scored a 1.8 rating in W25-54 and 2.6 million total viewers. It was cable’s number one program in its time slot in W25-54.

Showtime newcomer Masters of Sex is off to a promising start: The series followed up the 1 million viewers it drew for its debut with a 1.1 million for its second ep on Sunday.

Fox News shuffled its primetime lineup and Monday’s ratings showed the net up 1 percent over a year ago, to 2.027 million viewers for the night – but down 15 percent in A24-54, to 329,000. Versus 3Q 2013 numbers, though, the tweaked lineup was up by 6 percent in the demo.
