Sean Combs knows how to make an entrance. “The revolution will be televised,” said the rapper/record producer/entrepreneur as he launched his new music network, Revolt, at 8p Monday night from the steps of the late Notorious B.I.G.‘s childhood home in Brooklyn. “Biggie and I had this dream,” said Combs. “Today marks the beginning of an amazing journey for us and the music industry.” Listings can be found at www.revolt.tv.
Television remained the top media format for advertising in the second quarter of 2013, according to Nielsen‘s quarterly AdView Pulse Report, accounting for 57.6 percent of total ad spend. While print and radio saw declines, display Internet advertising experienced double-digit increases, growing 26.6 percent in the first half of the year.
NBC didn’t pick up Sarah Silverman‘s TV pilot, but that doesn’t mean you can’t watch it. The comedienne posted the episode of Susan 313, produced by 20th Century Fox and Imagine TV, on her YouTube page with the blessing of owner 20th– a gesture she calls “pretty cool” in her intro.
Belvedere Vodka is launching its largest campaign ever with TV ads on nine cable nets, reports AdAge. The brand is targeting millennials with a straightforward message touting its authenticity (“distilled according to a 600-year-old tradition”), rather than the bells and whistles many in the young demo seem to mistrust (“A lot of ads feel like they’re subliminal messages,” a millennial panelist said at last week’s Cynopsis Future TV Summit). Music, of course, will figure prominently in the campaign.
Telemundo Everywhere: A new app for the Spanish-language net allows authenticated subscribers access to Telemundo episodes the day after air. Features include an on-air TV schedule and a WiFi-only option to prevent data overages; Starcom MediaVest Group is the exclusive launch sponsor.
Showtime renewed Masters of Sex for season two and Homeland for season four. Homeland, the net’s top-rated series, is up 26 percent for the year with 6.5 million weekly viewers. Masters of Sex averages 5.4 million viewers, up 33 percent from Homeland’s first season. Homeland airs Sundays at 9p, followed by Masters.
Attention, Walmart shoppers! Wheel of Fortune is teaming with the retail giant for the third annual “Secret Santa Sweepstakes.” From Monday, November 11 through the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, November 27, Wheel viewers who are part of the game show’s loyalty program, the Wheel Watchers Club, will be eligible to win the prizes won by in-studio contestants. In addition to cash, cars and luxury vacations, prize package segments will include Walmart products.
During his keynote at the 9th Annual New York Television Festival, Pivot president Evan Shapiro offered ten tips for pitching network execs. Number 3: “Go in with an open mind,” Shapiro advised the 200-plus independent television creators in attendance. “Be willing to ‘pivot’ in terms of your concept.” The week-long event culminates with the NYTVF Awards Saturday night.
Fox is giving sci-fi buddy-cop series Almost Human the special event treatment with a two-night series premiere. The buzzed-about Bonanza Productions drama from J.J. Abrams (Lost) bows almost two weeks after its original launch date of November 4, to premiere Sunday, November 17 at 8p after an NFL double-header, and continue on Monday, November 18 at 8p. Human will stay in the Monday slot, pushing Bones to Fridays at 8p starting November 15.
PBS promises to unearth “drama and intrigue” from British landmarks in three one-hour Sunday night specials. First up, from Pioneer Productions, is Secrets of the Tower of London, on October 27 at 8p.
Set to debut in syndication in 2014, 20th Century Fox TV comedy Raising Hope has achieved clearance in 80 percent of the country. Season four of the show premieres Friday, November 15 on FOX.
Janeane Garofalo has joined the Bravo pilot, The Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce, says the Hollywood Reporter. Lisa Edelstein (House) stars in the one-hour dramedy based on the book by Vicki Iovine.
Lela Loren (Snitch), Naturi Naughton (Fame) and Joseph Sikora (Boardwalk Empire) have been added to the cast of upcoming Starz drama Power. The CBS Television Studios production, about a wealthy nightclub owner, is expected to debut in 2014.
Comedienne Jessica Chaffin (Arrested Development) is joining New Girl as a potential love interest for Winston (Lamorne Morris). The Fox comedy airs Tuesdays at 9p.

Amazon and MGM struck a deal to expand content for Amazon’s Prime Instant Video, allowing Prime members to stream History Channel series Vikings, as well movie titles from MGM’s library like Fargo, Platoon and Annie Hall. Prime is already the online subscription home for popular series like PBS‘s Downton Abbey and CBS‘s Under the Dome. Your move, Netflix.
Cine Sony Television announced a distribution agreement with Comcast‘s Xfinity TV to carry its entertainment content for the U.S. Hispanic market. Cine Sony Television is available on Xfinity’s Latino TV package.
COZI TV is airing a Halloween marathon of 1959-1961 supernatural anthology series One Step Beyond, starting Monday, October 28. With episodes chillingly titled “Premonition,” “The Burning Girl” and “Tidal Wave”… you get the picture.
Call for Submissions: Cynopsis is producing its annual Holiday Programming Guide, which comes out on November 26 and will be sent to all Cynopsis and Cynopsis Kids subscribers. If your network has holiday-themed programming airing from November 27 through December 31, please send your listings to Lynn Leahey at [email protected] no later than Monday November 18. Please include the following information: type of program (i.e. series, special, documentary, movie or holiday-themed episode), title, dates and times of all airings (please indicate when the show first premieres and when subsequent encores will air). A confirmation email will be sent following each submission from Lynn (if you don’t receive a confirmation email, please resubmit).
Even with a drop from last week’s 4.5, NBC‘s The Voice topped the ratings Monday with a 4.3 share/12 rating in A18-49. And Voice proved a healthy lead-in for The Blacklist, which held onto a 3.0 rating in the demo to make it the night’s highest-rated scripted show.
Fox got two tenths of a point boost for Bones‘s Booth/Brennan wedding Monday night, scoring a 2.2 rating/6 share in A18-49. An encore ep of Sleepy Hollow drew 1.0/3.
Doesn’t look like Hallmark Channel will be getting out of the original series game anytime soon. The net’s movie pilot premiere of When Calls the Heart drew more than 3.2 million viewers on October 19, making it the number one movie of the week on ad-supported cable. The series, starring Lori Loughlin (Full House), launches in January 2014.
The second episode of American Horror Story: Coven set a record for the highest delivery of A18-34 in FX history, with 2.95 million in the demo in Live+3, topping the premiere ep’s 2.92 million Live+3. In total viewers, counting DVR data Coven was just a hair’s breadth from its huge premiere numbers with 7.1 million Live+3, versus 7.2 million.
VH1 original movie CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story lived up to the hype, becoming the highest-rated telecast on VH1 in over five years with 2.9 in A18-49 and 4.5 million viewers. The October 21 movie was also the most-tweeted show of the night, according to SocialGuide, with over 1.92 million tweets. The biopic has its first encore Sunday, October 27 at 8p.

It was quarterback versus pitcher all night, with ABC’s Saturday Night Football leading at 8p with 2.2, to defeat a 1.6/6 for Fox’s Major League pennant race. Baseball interest rose at 9p, drawing a 2.0/6 for ABC, not enough to tackle a 2.5/8 in the hour for NBC’s college game. But ABC hit a home run with 2.6/8 at 10p, as the Red Sox clinched the American League pennant – and beat the 1.9/6 NBC scored for football.
