Season one of FOX’s Terra Nova will end with a two-hour finale scheduled for December 19.  FOX also said yesterday it will hold off on running new episodes of New Girl until after November 1 when the network’s coverage of the World Series is over.  Fresh eps of New Girl were set to air tonight and next Tuesday. Instead, The X-Factor will now extend to two hours both nights.

ABC has reversed its decision made during last May’s Upfronts on the name of upcoming comedy Apartment 23 going back (almost) to the original title of Don’t Trust The B—- in Apartment 23.  ABC has not yet set a date for the comedy though it is likely to premiere sometime this season.

Syfy announced its 2012 Winter Programming Schedule punctuated by two new series:

  • Lost Girl is a new series starring Anna Silk as Bo, a supernatural seductress who is also a Succubus, a powerful female entity in folk stories who feeds off of sexual energy.  Lost Girl is from Prodigy Pictures and premieres January 16 at 10p.
  • Monster Man is the second new series that goes inside one of Hollywood’s top monster prop building workshops run by Cleve Hall and his family.  Produced by Gurney Productions, the series will launch in March.

Syfy’s returning series includes:

  • Merlin – Season four from Shine TV debuts January 6 at 10p.
  • Ghost Hunters – An eighth season continues on Wednesdays at 8p with 20 all-new episodes launching January 11 at 9p.
  • Face Off – A second season of the reality competition series set in the world of special effects and make-up artistry debuts January 11 at 10p.  Mission Control Media produces.
  • Being Human – A sophomore season is back from Muse Entertainment in association with Zodiak USA beginning January 16 at 9p.
  • Ghost Hunters International – Season 2.5 returns to the schedule starting February 22 at 9p.  Produced in association with Pilgrim Films and Television.

With Halloween approaching, AMC kicks off its annual AMC Fearfest this Sunday with the 90-minute second season premiere of The Walking Dead. The AMC Fearfest is the network’s annual film festival of horror movies running over 16 days through October 31.  In addition, George A. Romero, known as “Master of Horror” will introduce the network’s 14-part original mini-documentary series American Haunters as well as 300 hours of Halloween themed programming encompassing 60+ films including the world TV premiere of Romero’s Survival of the Dead on October 17 at 8p.  American Haunters will take a behind-the-scenes look at Kevin McCurdy’s Haunted Mansion, a real-life commercial haunted house with 13 rooms.  American Haunters will air each weeknight at 8p and 10p.

Early next month, HISTORY launches its epic six-hour docu-drama Vietnam in HD narrated by Michael C. Hall.  The series airs November 8, 9 and 10 at 9p each night.  Vietnam in HD includes rare and never-seen film footage with much of it shot by soldiers in action.  Thousands of hours of uncensored footage was restored and then transferred to hi-def giving viewers an immersive experience into the Vietnam War.  A number of celebrities will further voice the real-life stories of soldiers. Lou Reda Productions produced the series for HISTORY.

New original series, My Family Recipe Rocks! hosted by TV personality/actor and former *NSYNC star Joey Fatone debuts next January on the Live Well Network.  The half-hour program will feature stories of homegrown cooks and their special recipes from around the country.  The series is produced by ABC O&O KFSN-TV in Fresno, CA.  The Live Well Network is a broadcast, online and wireless service for digital channels in local markets.  The network presently reaches 47% of the US TV households and is operated by the ABC Owned Television Stations Group.

Discovery Channel soars back to Alaska as a second season of Flying Wild Alaska begins October 28 at 10p.  The new season follows the Tweto family, operators of Era Alaska, the state’s largest regional airline as they battle extreme weather to provide needed supplies and a lifeline to people living in remote areas.  3 Ball Productions/Eyeworks USA produces the series for Discovery Channel.

Returning to South Florida, Animal Planet debuts a sophomore season of Swamp Wars on November 6 at 9p.  Animal Planet will air six new episodes this year and another half dozen episodes of Swamp Wars will air in 2012.  The series is produced for Animal Planet by 2C Media, Inc.

A sixth season of Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood makes a comeback on Oxygen’s lineup starting November 29 at 10p.  Viewers will be introduced to Tori and Dean’s new baby while the couple juggles a new book and a new business and their two older children.  The series is produced by World of Wonder Productions.

Monday’s series premiere of The Rosie Show at 7p on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network attracted 497,000 total viewers and delivered a 0.44 rating with W25-54.  Following at 8p, OWN debuted new series Oprah’s Lifeclass with 333,000 total viewers and a 0.40 rating among W25-54.

Meredith Hoenes will further serve as co-anchor of the 630p news and will join co-anchor Ryan Tate at 9p on KQFX/FOX 22 and 10p on KMIZ/ABC 17.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Courteney Cox and David Arquette have sold a comedy with penalty titled Ten Years to NBC.  The project is from ABC Studios and is a single-camera comedy written by Howard Morris about the 10-year relationship of a recently separated couple in the center of a group of friends and family.  Cox, Arquette and Morris will all serve as executive producers.  NBC also picked up a drama project called The Next Insanely Great Thing from writer Daniel Taplitz.  Based on a true story, the drama is about suburbanites who agree to become test subjects for a high-tech company’s social media experiments.  Ian Sanders and Kim Moses are the executive producers along with Taplitz.  ABC Studios is also producing this project.

Actress Elizabeth Banks (30 Rock, Scrubs) and her author/producer husband, Max Handleman sold a single camera comedy titled Dave’s Dead to FOX, reports THR.  20th Century Fox Television is producing the project; Banks and Handleman will serve as non-writing executive producers on the project.  Eric Siegel and Eric D. Wasserman are set to write and also executive produce Dave’s Dead.

Comedian Janeane Garofalo joins the cast of Delocated on Adult Swim.  Season three is currently in production on the half-hour live-action comedy series.  Adult Swim airs Delocated on Sundays at 9p and will debut the new season early next year.  Garofalo will play Susan Shapiro, the head of the television network that produces the reality show about Jon (Jon Glasser) a man in the witness protection program.

FX’s Justified tapped Neal McDonough (Desperate Housewives, Boomtown) and Mykelti Williamson (Boomtown) as bad guys for the third season.  McDonough will play recurring character Quarles, a sharp-dressed Detroit mobster who comes to Kentucky with visions of becoming a crime lord. Williamson will play Limehouse, a man who lives in a small black town in Harlan County who will do whatever it takes, legal or not, to protect his holler.  Justified’s third season returns in January and viewers will meet both characters early in the season.  Production on the 13 new episodes began this past Monday.
