The season four premiere date of Community and the season two debut of Whitney have both been pushed back by NBC. The sitcoms were scheduled to return with their new seasons on October 19. NBC has not stated when the comedies will return and it is reported the delay will give the shows more time for marketing and promotions.
Kaley Cuoco, star of CBS’ The Big Bang Theory will host the People’s Choice Awards 2013 for a second consecutive year when the event airs live on CBS from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles January 9 at 9p. Beginning October 23, fans will have the chance to pare down the selection of nominees in more than 40 categories. Voting will happen online at: www.Peopleschoice.com/nominees until November 2.
Internet Broadcasting (IB), a provider of digital publishing technology and services and Univision Communications Inc. forged a multiyear agreement under which Univision Television Group (UTG) will license digital ad products and services from IB. This deal begins next Monday and includes ad creative design and development, ad trafficking services, campaign management, ad products, digital sales training and supporter for all of UTG’s 62 owned-and-operated stations across the US and Puerto Rico.
FX comedy Louie is taking an extended hiatus between its seasons with the upcoming fourth season now launching in spring 2014. Louie starring Louis C.K. would have returned to FX’s lineup in summer 2013 if it continued on its normal schedule. The network agreed to give the show’s creator more time to finish new episodes.
Stories of bad tattoos are the focus of the new Spike TV original series Tattoo Nightmares produced by495 Productions and premiering October 16 at 11p. The series watches as three tattoo artist experts try to fix tattoo disasters.
Starting yesterday, supermodel entrepreneur Kathy Ireland became a regular contributor on the nationally syndicated daytime talk show, Katie. Ireland joined host Katie Couric on a show about celebrities who are famous for one thing and successful at another. Ireland will participate on Katie as a recurring contributor involved in a wide range of topics relevant to the show. Furthermore, Ireland’s participation on the show also includes a first-look agreement with Sterline/Winters Company Studio, an entity of kiWW to develop specials and show concepts in tandem with Disney/ABC Television Group’s Time Square Studios.
Animal Planet renewed a second season of its ultimate fishing travel adventure series Off the Hook: Extreme Catches. The new season will include 18 half-hour episodes and will premiere in the summer of 2013. During its first season, Off the Hook: Extreme Catches delivered more than 620,000 total viewers per episode. The series is a production of part 2 pictures for Animal Planet.
One-hour game show The American Bible Challenge was renewed for a second season by GSN. Hosted by comedian Jeff Foxworthy, the network ordered nine episodes for season two which will return in 2013. RelativityREAL produces the series for GSN.
A second season of Brides of Beverly Hills is back on TLC beginning November 2 at 10p. The series, with 15 all-new half-hour episodes, continues to follow bridal stylist Renee Strauss and her team of stylists along with celebrity florist Kevin Lee as they work with demanding Beverly Hills brides. The series is from Planetworks Inc.
Yesterday, Penske Media Corp. announced it has purchased the entertainment trade publication Variety from Reed Elsevier. Penske also owns Deadline.com, TVLine, MovieLine, HollywoodLife, BGR and ENTV.
Longtime Showtime Networks executive Frank Pintauro died last Sunday at the age of 61. Mr. Pintauro served as EVP of Red Group where he managed the network’s in-house ad agency and was the co-head of the network’s marketing and creative services department. Under Mr. Pintauro’s leadership, Red Group was named In-House Creative Team of the Year in 2011 by PromaxBDA. He is survived by his wife Kathy, and sons David and Tony, who works in the creative services department for SHOWTIME Sports. A funeral mass will be held at St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church in Sag Harbor, NY this Friday. CBS Corporation and DIRCTV have renewed their content carriage agreements. The long-term deal covers retransmission consent for CBS owned stations and continued carriage of Showtime, CBS Sports Network and Smithsonian Channel. Financial terms were not disclosed.
ION Media Networks, Inc. made a long-term partnership for ION Television’s nationwide carriage on DIRECTV. The deal covers the distribution of ION’s flagship network, ION Television on DIRECTV’s broad platform of subscribers for many years in the future. ION Television will be offered in hi-def on DIRECTV and will remain available to subscribers nationwide through East and West Coast time zone feeds. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Reality star Kris Jenner (Keeping Up With the Kardashians) is in talks with Twentieth Television to star in her own daytime talk show. Jenner has been a frequent guest host of CBS’ The Talk and NBC’s Today and her own series could receive a test run on FOX-owned stations as early as next summer.
At MIPCOM, A. Smith & Co. Productions and BASE Productions picked up a pilot order from FOX for Divorce Hotel. Mentorn International will handle the international distribution of the format. Divorce Hotel is based on the Dutch business of the same name that has become famous for its innovative concept from founder Jim Halfens. At MIPCOM 2011, BASE Productions secured the global rights to develop the Divorce Hotel concept for television and now is partnering with A. Smith & Co. Productions which has a relationship with FOX through its long-running series Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares. Divorce Hotel will be produced by A. Smith & Co. Productions and BASE Productions. Arthur Smith, Kent Weed, Mickey Stern and John Brenkus will all serve as EPs.
TV2 Norway picked up the local license for Banijay International’s celebrity diving entertainment format Stars in Danger. The format will air in 2013. Banijay Group company Nordisk Film TV will produce the formal locally.
Argonon International, the distribution unit for the Argonon group made a major format option deal involving its property, Cash in the Attic. Norwegian production company Snowman Productions based in Stockholm signed an option deal to take the format to Denmark. Cash in the Attic has been in a hit in the UK airing on the BBC for eighteen seasons.
BBC Worldwide America, Sales & Distribution revealed a co-production deal with BBC/MASTERPIECE on PBS for the Victorian-era series The Paradise set inside Britain’s first department store about a rags-to-riches story of a young girl who falls in love with the glamour of the modern world. Joanna Vanderham, Emun Elliott, Elaine Cassidy, Sarah Lancashire and Patrick Malahide are starring. Also announced is the BBC/MASTERPIECE for PBS co-production The Lady Vanishes, an adaptation of the classic 1930s thriller about a beautiful woman traveling across Europe by train who unwittingly becomes involved in a dangerous plot. The Lady Vanishes stars Tuppence Middleton, Tom Hughes, Gemma Jones, Stephanie Cole, Jesper Christensen and Keeley Hawes.
J.J. Abrams received a put pilot commitment from FOX for a single-camera half-hour comedy titled Adulting. The project is based on blogger-turned-author Kelly Williams Brown’s upcoming book, Adulting: How to Become a Grown-Up in 387 Easy(ish) Steps. Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein will write and executive produce the comedy with Abrams and his partner Bryan Burk involved as EPs. Bad Robot’s Kathy Lingg will co-EP with Athena Wickham on board as a producer. The project will be produced by Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
The Office’s Angela Kinsey and Hangover star Rachael Harris will star in a comedy project that received a put pilot commitment from FOX. The network outbid other networks to nab the project titled Dirty Blondes, written by Glee producer Stacy Traub. The comedy is based on the real-life friendship of its stars and follows the two women as they become closer after each gets divorced. 20th Century Fox Television is producing with Ruben Fleischer on board to direct the pilot and serve as EP with Traub; Harris and Kinsey will be co-EPs.
Lifetime tapped two actresses for its drama pilot Witches of East End. Former Twin Peaks alum Madchen Amick will guest star as Wendy, Joanna Beauchamp’s (Julia Ormond) sister, described as a beautiful and funny witch. Glenne Headly also joins as Penelope, Dash and Killian Gardiner’s (Daniel Ditomasso) mother. Fox 21 is producing.

At 8p, FOX’s College Football match did best at 1.4/5 with NBC’s Notre Dame Football classic next at 1.3/5 and ABC’s Saturday Night Football in third at 1.2/5. ABC was the solo winner during 9p with Saturday Night Football delivering a 1.7/6 and FOX’s College Football game in second place at 1.4/5. The ratings see-sawed back in FOX’s favor at 10p as its West Virginia vs. Texas game spiked to a 2.1/7 followed by ABC’s Saturday Night Football at 1.6/5.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis: NBC dominated the A18-49 viewers Sunday at 6.4/17, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. CBS posted a 3.9/11 for the first half of 60 Minutes at 7p which beat out NBC’s Football Night in America Part 2 at 2.9/9, the season premiere of The Cleveland Show on FOX at 2.2/6 and the season debut of America’s Funniest Home Videos on ABC in fourth place at 1.5/4. NBC shot ahead during 8p with a combination of Football Night in America Part 3 and the start of Sunday Night Football at an average of 5.7/15 while ABC’s Once Upon a Time trailed in second place at 3.4/9. NBC posted its best ratings for Sunday Night Football at 9p with a 7.4/18 and FOX was next in line at 3.0/7 the average of Family Guy and American Dad and ABC dropped back to third place for Revenge at 2.6/6. NBC’s ratings at 10p for the final part of the San Diego and New Orleans NFL game continued to be high at 7.0/18 with a tie for #2 going to ABC’s 666 Park Avenue and the average of CBS’ dramas The Good Wife and The Mentalist at 1.7/4 each.

Monday A18-49 Analysis: NBC held its own in first place Monday at 4.2/11 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. NBC’s The Voice surpassed the competition at 8p with a 4.5/12 followed by CBS’ comedies How I Met Your Mother and Partners at an average of 2.5/7 and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars was next at 2.1/6. The CW at 8p also debuted a new season of 90210 at 0.4/1. The second half of NBC’s The Voice rose to a 5.2/13 during 9p while more sitcoms on CBS, 2 Broke Girls and Mike & Molly placed second at an average of 3.1/8. Also this hour, The CW launched the final season of Gossip Girl at 0.4/1. NBC polished off the final win of the night at 10p as Revolution was #1 with a 3.0/8 and ABC’s Castle was #2 at 2.2/6 and CBS’ Hawaii Five-O was #3 at 1.9/5.
