Good morning. It’s Wednesday, November 7, 2012, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
The UFC and FOX Sports locked in its 2013 UFC on FOX network broadcast schedule, which will feature four live events on the network next year, beginning Saturday, Jan. 26 at the United Center in Chicago. Additional events are also planned for the network on April 20, July 27 and Dec. 14. Other UFC highlights from the 2013 FX and FUEL TV include UFC on FX: Belfort vs. Bisping on Jan. 19 and UFC on FUEL TV on Feb. 16.
ESPN reports that the Sugar Bowl was selected to host the new marquee bowl game pitting teams from the Southeastern Conference and Big 12 (aka The Champions Bowl). ESPN.com writes that New Orleans was selected over the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas for the event and the first Sugar Bowl under this arrangement will be held on Jan. 1, 2015. ESPN will carry the game, paying $80 million a year for the rights. If the SEC or Big 12 champion advances to the national semifinals, then each conference would insert another team for the game.
The Cowboys/Falcons SNF broadcast handed NBC with the win in primetime with 21.7 million viewers, off slightly from last year’s equitable Week 9 SNF game (22.1 million) according to Nielsen. The household rating of 13.2/20 for Sunday’s game is off just one percent from last year’s Week 9 SNF game (13.3/21) with top markets that include Atlanta at a 31.1/45, followed by Dallas, San Antonio, New Orleans and Albuquerque. So far, this season’s SNF is off to its highest-rated start in the seven-year history of the package with a 12.9 score through nine weeks.
The 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards will feature a familiar face later this month in Las Vegas, with Howie Mandel tapped to host the show. The Award will start at 8p on Nov. 30 with live coverage on SPEED, Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
FOX Sports Media Group revealed its college football picks for Saturday, Nov. 10 & Saturday, Nov. 17. FOX Sports will carry Kansas State/TCU this Saturday night at 7p. Next week, the network will feature Oklahoma/West Virginia. Gus Johnson and Charles Davis will call of the matchups. This Saturday, FOX Sports begins its doubleheader coverage of Oregon State/Stanford. Meanwhile FX showcases Colorado/Arizona this weekend at 1:30p and Washington/Colorado on Nov. 17.
The Black College Football Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2013, which will include such famed athletes as Charlie Joiner, Ed “Too Tall” Jones and Shannon Sharpe. The newest members will be enshrined on February 16, 2013 at the Loews Hotel in Atlanta, with the NFL Network’s Charles Davis serving as Master of Ceremonies.
For the ninth consecutive year, ESPN networks will offer all 12 games in the 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regional and Semi-Regional rounds live from four regional sites in addition to the Frozen Four and Championship matchups. Games will air over ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or on ESPN3 as well as via local syndication. The 2013 tournament brackets will be announced on the NCAA Hockey Championship Selection Show, on Sunday, March 24 at 9p on ESPNU.
NBC Sports Network gets a college football quadruple-header this Saturday headlined by Air Force/San Diego State at 3:30p. The marathon starts at noon with Harvard/Penn, and continues in the evening with Boise St./Hawaii at 7p and Fresno St./Nevada at 10:30p.

The NFL Experience driven by GMC, is set to hit New Orleans from Wednesday, Jan. 30-Sunday, Feb. 3 at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center for Super Bowl XLVII. The event will look to celebrate the sport’s history with more than 50 interactive football attractions, NFL SHOP, Hall of Fame exhibit, live auction, free NFL Player autograph signings, the Vince Lombardi Trophy and more.

USA Today Sports Media Group has two new faces, with Dino Markus and Derek Samson both joining the company. Markus will serve as Director of Video and previously worked as Director of Video Production and Programming for Bleacher Report. Samson joins from Yahoo! Sports and will now serve as Director of Content for USA Today High School Sports.
ESPN launched a new release of the ESPN Hub app designed to update the existing, Nokia-exclusive app originally launched in January 2012. The updated app will allow personalization of the app’s main Tile, giving fans instant, real-time scores and game start times for all their favorite teams. The app will also feature a new design, customizable alerts and expanded content.
