Calling rising retransmission fees “unsustainable,” DirecTV CEO Mike White told analysts yesterday that the satellite company will “continue to explore” the idea of using antennas to transmit content, a la Aereo. The U.S.’s biggest satellite provider added a more-than-expected 139,000 subscribers in the quarter, a gain likely attributable in part to the 306,000 defections Time Warner Cable suffered in the wake of its month-long CBS blackout.
Another CEO on an earnings call, Charter Communications‘ Tom Rutledge, revealed the launch of the company’s first mobile streaming app Tuesday, with a lineup of more than 100 live TV channels in the home. The plan is to add VOD content and out-of-home access later.

Anchorman character Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), is proving a very effective pitchman for Dodge Durango. Chrysler reported a 59 percent surge in Durango auto sales after the ads – which have gotten more than seven million hits on YouTube – broke October 5. Icing on the cake? According to Automotive News, Chrysler didn’t pay Ferrell for the ads – they’re part of the promotion for his new movie, Anchorman 2, out December 20.

Reelz announced the premiere date for the “lost” third season of Steven Seagal Lawman. The show was yanked from A&E‘s schedule before its January 2012 premiere date, when a lawsuit (since dropped) from a former employee reportedly prompted Seagal to resign from the Arizona sheriff’s office. Today Seagal is “actively involved” in Arizona law enforcement, says Reelz; the missing season bows Thursday, January 2 at 10p.
