National Geographic Channel presents a worldwide seven-part television event as Great Migrations premieres this Sunday at 8p. Narrated by Alec Baldwin and shot from land, air, underwater and more, the series follows the journey of millions of animals as they strive to maintain the survival of their species.

This Thursday, Discovery Channel opens a new series Oddities at 930p from Leftfield Pictures, producers of Pawn Stars. The series goes inside Obscura Antiques & Oddities in New York where viewers will discover a bizarre mix of items such as strange medical instruments, late 19th century poison bottles, a two-headed mounted cow and more. Shop owners Mike Zohn and Evan Michelson have a passion for obtaining fascinating and unusual stuff.

TLC is having more cake as a second season of Fabulous Cakes premieres with ten new one-hour episodes on November 22 at 10p. Fabulous Cakes highlights bakeries across the country specializing in over-the-top cake designs. During each episode, viewers will witness top pastry chefs as they conceive and construct three different and extraordinary cakes and new to this season, each episode will also feature a wedding cake design. LMNO Cable Group, Inc. produces the series for TLC.

Bravo is adding a new season of its original series Tabatha’s Salon Takeover to Monday nights beginning December 6 at 10p, making five nights of original programming for the network. Throughout season three, the series follows Tabatha Coffey as she makes over the lives and businesses of salon owners in California, Massachusetts and Texas. Tabatha’s Salon Takeover is produced for Bravo by Reveille LLC.

On Monday at 8p, Univision launched new drama Eva Luna delivering an average of 3.3 million total viewers, 1.8 million among A18-49 as well as 1.1 million A18-34 viewers, across all languages. Eva Luna is produced by Venevision International in association with Univision Studios.

Telemundo reported the premiere of Aurora on Monday at 8p attracted nearly 1.4 million total viewers and 851,000 A18-49 viewers. The debut of Aurora became the network’s largest premiere in the 8p time slot in four years with the A18-49 demo.

Charlie O’Donnell, the announcer on the syndicated game show Wheel of Fortune for 26 years, has died. He was 78. During his career, Mr. O’Donnell was an announcer on American Bandstand and for other special events such as the Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards as well as announcing the Beatles concerts at the Hollywood Bowl and Dodger Stadium in 1965 and 1966. Mr. O’Donnell is survived by his wife, Ellen, four children and two grandchildren.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

HGTV approved a new series Cash & Cari starring estate liquidator Cari Cucksey set to premiere in January 2011. Cineflix Productions is producing 26 episodes following Cucksey as she spies hidden treasures, such as a vintage Chanel gown, valuable antiques and more, at estate sales, flea markets, attics, garages and anywhere else she investigates. Cucksey is the owner/operator of RePurpose Estate Services and a retail shop RePurpose in Detroit.

Mary Tyler Moore will make a guest appearance during the second season of TV Land’s comedy Hot In Cleveland which also stars her former cast mate Betty White. This reunion of Moore and White will mark the first time in 33 years the veteran actresses will appear on the same show together since they starred in the 1970’s The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Production on the 20-episode second season of Hot In Cleveland began on Monday and the new season will premiere January 19.

Actress and executive producer Salma Hayek (Ugly Betty) is bringing another telenovela from South America to ABC. Hayek and her producing partner Jose Tamez sold an adaptation of the Argentinean telenovela Los Roldan via their company Ventanarosa. The US adaptation will tap writers Veronica Becker and Sarah Kucserka who also worked on Ugly Betty and will also serve as executive producers on the new series. ABC Studios is producing. Los Roldan is a drama with comedic aspects about a working-class guy who saves the life of a woman who then hires him to run her company. Los Roldan was produced by Argentina broadcaster Telefe from 2004 to 2005.

ABC is also developing a cop drama titled One Police Plaza from executive producer Mark Gordon (Criminal Minds, Grey’s Anatomy). This drama is about a female New York commissioner. Linda Fairstein and Kenneth Solarz are writing and executive producing while Gordon also executive produces along with his production partner Deb Spera.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX focused on winning Saturday night with a 3.3/11 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. FOX’s World Series Game 3 topped at 8p with 3.1/11 ahead of usual time period winner ABC’s Saturday Night Football match at 2.0/7. FOX maintained its lead through 9p with the final hour of World Series Game 3 at 3.4/11 and ABC was second again with more of its college football doubleheader at 2.4/8. At 10p, ABC turned things around winning with more college football at 2.8/9 while CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery was #2 at 1.4/4.

Sunday  A18-49 Analysis: NFL Football on NBC scared up the most ratings Sunday night at 6.0/16 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. Starting out at 7p, FOX led by a large margin with its NFL Sunday National action and The OT averaging a 7.1/23 and NBC was next with Football Night in America Part 2 and Part 3 averaging a 2.1/7. NBC charged ahead during 8p with a combination of Football Night in America Part 3, the NFL Pre-Kick and the start of the Sunday Night NFL game averaging a 5.2/15 followed by the World Series Game 4 on FOX at 4.6/13. NBC continued to lead through 9p with more NFL football at 7.7/19 while the FOX World Series Game 4 placed second at 4.4/11. Then at 10p, NBC’s NFL match ended the night on top at 7.0/18 and FOX was once again trailing in second with the World Series Game 4 at 4.1/11.

Monday  A18-49 Analysis: FOX swept Monday night overall at 4.1/11 with the A18-49 demo, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, ABC’s Dancing with the Stars captured the time period with its 200th episode at 3.9/10 while CBS’ comedies How I Met Your Mother and Rules of Engagement averaged a 3.5/9 in second place. Also this hour, UNIV premiered Eva Luna at 1.4/4 while TELE debuted new series Aurora at 0.6/2. Then at 9p, FOX moved ahead with World Series Game 5 at 4.3/11 and tying for #2 was ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and the average of CBS’ sitcoms Two and a Half Men and Mike & Molly at 4.1/10 each. As the World Series ended its run and San Francisco topped with a historic win, FOX also was the winner during 10p at 4.7/12 and CBS followed with Hawaii Five-O at 3.0/8.

Oil Studios, a multi-platform interactive content studio named Simon Rees as company Chairman. Simon will provide oversight of the ongoing development and growth of the company, working in tandem with Mike Bennett, CEO/Creative Director and Mark McKeown, COO.

Philadelphia-based Red Tettemer is purchasing independent creative firm Stick and Move, also based in Philadelphia, as announced by Red Tettemer’s Steve Red, President/CCO. The newly-merged company will be renamed as Red Tettemer + Partners. Stick and Move founders, Steve O’Connell and Jared Scott will join the new company as Partners with Steve O’Connell becoming Executive Creative Director and Jared Scott as SVP/Accounts. In addition, Carla Mote becomes the new Managing Partner to head Account Management and new business development.

Greg Brodsky was tapped as Marketing Director for the Woodstock Film Festival. Greg has twenty years of experience in marketing such brands as Warner Bros., Madison Square Garden, ESPN and Atlantic Records.

India’s VenSat Tech Services, Pvt. Ltd. (VenSat) is establishing a new US business unit, VenSat America which will be supervised by Ken Silverman as CEO/President. Furthermore, the new entity has added veteran visual effects producer/VFX studio executive John Follmer as EVP/COO. VenSat America will have offices in Los Angeles and New York City. VenSat America will make headway in the US in the areas of motion pictures, television, home entertainment, gaming and mobile entertainment markets and will further develop co-pro deals involving animation, motion comics, VFX and 2D-to-3D conversion services.

R&R Partners elevated Todd Gillins to the newly-created position as VP/Research where he will head all planning, execution and reporting on quantitative, qualitative and secondary research projects for the company’s clients. Jeremy Thompson also advanced to a new position that of Corporate Director/Media and Interactive. Jeremy manages a team of media professionals at all six R&R offices and reports to Fletcher Whitwell, VP/Media and Interactive.

Collins Avenue (A ContentFilm Company) hired Mike Aho as VP/Factual Television and Executive Producer. Mike’s credits include creating High Society with Tinsley Mortimer. In his new role, Mike will oversee development, production and daily management of all departments at Collins Avenue. He will report to Jeff Collins, President.
