~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

After striking for almost two weeks, producers and crew members on NBC’s The Biggest Loser have forged a new agreement, ending their labor dispute. The reality series’ production companies Reveille, 3Ball and 25/7 settled on an agreement with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), with provisions concentrating in particular on health benefits. The deal includes allowing the show’s crew members to count their work hours toward their health insurance benefits. Another stipulation says beginning next summer, IATSE members need to work 400 hours, instead of the current 300 hours minimum, every six months to retain or achieve health insurance coverage.

SOAPnet premieres a third season of its original scripted series Being Erica on January 26 with 13 hour-long episodes airing on Wednesdays at 11p. The series focuses on 30-something Erica Strange who has the uncanny ability to go back in time to sort out her past regrets and troubles with the help of her mysterious therapist, Dr. Tom. Being Erica is produced by Temple Street Productions in association with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Oxygen is ramping up a sixth season of its original series Bad Girls Club as the show returns to the West Coast beginning January 10 at 9p with an all-new cast of seven females. During its fifth season, Bad Girls Club averaged 1.7 million total viewers and 1.1 million A18-49 viewers. Bunim-Murray Productions produces the series.

TLC is moving its series What Not To Wear to Tuesday nights from Fridays starting December 21 at 9p. The series has been a staple on Friday nights since it launched in 2003 and the final Friday night episode will air December 17 at 9p. What Not To Wear is produced by BBC Productions for TLC.

MTV announced its 2011 award show schedule:

  • The sixth annual MTVU Woodie Awards will air March 16 at midnight on MTV, MTV2 and MTVU. This next year, the awards show will move from New York City to the Austin Music Hall in Austin, TX during the South By Southwest Music Festival.
  • MTV Movie Awards, in its 20th annual installment, will air June 5 at 9p originating from Los Angeles.
  • The 28th annual Video Music Awards is set for August 28 at 9p. A location for the VMAs has not been announced.
~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

Outside mediation efforts to try and resolve the carriage dispute between Comcast and Tennis Channel did not work, despite both parties agreeing to the mediation process, reports B&C. The carriage disagreement between the two entities will now be heard by an FCC administration law judge.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Julia Louis-Dreyfus will next headline the pilot Veep for HBO. The comedy centers on former US Senator Selina Meyer (Louis-Dreyfus) who becomes the Vice President of the US, a position that is nothing like she expected and everything everyone warned her about. Simon Blackwell and Armando Iannucci are writing the pilot and Iannucci will also direct and serve as executive producer with Chris Godsick and Frank Rich. Louis-Dreyfus will additionally produce the project.

Discovery Studios, the full service production division of Discovery Communications made a long-term overall deal with Executive Producer Eddie Barbini of Blue Frog Pictures. Barnini will produce exclusive series and specials for Discovery Studios, the biggest supplier of content for Discovery’s networks.
