~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

A pair of soap opera-themed dramas from the Mark Gordon Co. are moving forward at ABC and NBC.  For ABC, Josh Duhamel is working with Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts on an untitled drama set inside a daytime soap opera that explores the loves, lives and craziness of the cast at a time when the genre is faltering.  Duhamel came up with the original idea and co-created the concept with Berg and Harberts who will write the script and executive produce along with Mark Gordon Co. head/drama Nicholas Pepper and actor Oliver Hudson.  Hudson and Duhamel, who starred in ABC’s All My Children, may appear on-screen though perhaps not as series regulars.   NBC’s soap project is an adaptation of Amanda Stevens’ novel, The Graveyard Queen.  The drama is described as a high-concept soap opera about a girl cursed at youth who has the ability to see the dead.  Berg and Harberts are also writing the script and serving as EPs along with Gordon and Pepper.  ABC and NBC have given both projects script orders and both will be produced by ABC Studios, where Gordon has an overall deal.

ABC is additionally developing a drama based on the Disney park ride, Big Thunder Mountain.  The project will be written by Jason Fuchs and Chris Morgan will be involved to supervise and serve as EP.  No other details were immediately available.

Greg Berlanti and Julie Plec are partnering to adapt a UK drama, The Tomorrow People for The CW.  The project is about young people around the world who represent the next stage in human evolution who possess special powers such as teleporting and telepathy. Together they work to defeat the forces of evil.  The original series was created by Roger Price and ran from 1973-79 on ITV.

Jersey Shore’s Vinny Guadagnino is sticking around MTV as the network approved a new hybrid talk show/reality series, The Show With Vinny produced by SallyAnn Salsano of 495 Productions.  The series will move the typical talk show format out of the studio and into Vinny Guadagnino’s family home in Staten Island, NY.  There, Vinny will conduct off-the-cuff and unscripted interviews with stars who are invited to dine at his house.  The series will also feature real people from Vinny’s personal life such as his mother Paula and his Uncle Nino and more.

Spike TV ordered 10 episodes of a new docu-series Tattoo Rescue set to premiere next summer.  The series features tattoo expert Joey Germinario and his team as they attempt to turn around failing tattoo studios into profitable businesses.  The series is produced by Original Media.  Spike also renewed World’s Worst Tenants for a second season.

Starz Entertainment and BBC Worldwide Productions tapped composer Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica) to be the musical composer for its upcoming historical fantasy series, Da Vinci’s Demons which is set to premiere on STARZ in the US next spring.  The eight-episode series will also be distributed by BBC Worldwide internationally in spring 2013.

Joss Whedon’s pilot for ABC titled S.H.I.E.L.D tapped Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker.  The project produced by ABC Studios is based on Marvel Comics’ secret intelligence organization that has appeared in various titles such as Iron Man and Captain America.  Henstridge will play science guru Agent Gemma Simmons and De Caestecker will play Agent Leo Fitz, a techno wizard.

Former Nip/Tuck star, Dylan Walsh landed a role on ABC’s Revenge.  Walsh will appear in multiple episodes as Jason Prosser, a rival hedge fund manager to Conrad Grayson (Henry Czerny).

For the sixth season of HBO’s True Blood, British actor Rob Kazinsky (EastEnders) is joining the cast as a series regular.  Kazinsky will play Ben, a charismatic faerie who takes an interest in Sookie and she returns the feelings.  True Blood returns with its sixth season next June on HBO.
