Cynopsis Digital hosted its first annual Model D Awards ceremony yesterday, awarding the most innovative and creative work in digital content and advertising. More than 150 industry insiders including A+E, USA Networks, Sports Illustrated, Maker Studios, and Freewheel joined the festivities, and the program featured an eclectic group of presenters, including Joan Rivers, Logo’s Phi Phi O’Hara and VEVO’s Lyric Lines Tommy Wooldridge. After winning for Best Connected TV Platform, Bravo’s Executive Vice President of Digital Lisa Hsia told Cynopsis, “We put a great deal of thought and creativity into our design, so it’s great to be recognized by Cynopsis Digital.” See the complete list of the winners and honorable mentions at www.cynopsis.com.
The third largest YouTube multi-channel network, Broadband TV, announced a new program to help underwrite original content projects for channel partners. “We want to provide our nearly 13,000 partners with access to the tools, expertise and funding they need to monetize their content and grow their audiences,” Broadband TV CEO and founder Shahrzad Rafati told Cynopsis. “The program proves our commitment to keeping our partners at the forefront of market developments while offering up further premium original content for advertisers.” The initiative will kick off in the next few months: a budget for the program has not yet been released.
Investigation Discovery is promoting its newest series, A Crime To Remember with an online campaign at www.acrimetoremember.com. The initiative includes “living pictures” or gifs that will be unveiled during every new episode, consisting of exclusive information on featured cases and historical photos. New episodes air every Tuesday at 10 p.m.
Just as AdAge reported Roku is launching a $12 million holiday ad campaign came word the streaming set-top box maker has lined up more live programming, from Disney and ESPN. Customers who log in with cable credentials can access WatchESPN live sporting events and video, and will soon be able to view content on WATCH Disney Channel, Watch Disney Junior and Watch Disney XD. Roku rival Apple TV added WatchESPN and Disney in June.
Verizon’s partnership with NFL includes Foursquare, which will display Verizon FIOS ads after users check in on the app at major NFL team cities: Boston, Baltimore and Washington D.C. Adweek also reports that when Foursquare users check in at a New York stadium on game days, they can win opportunities to do the coin-toss before the game, score sideline passes or upgrade their seats.

Hulu Plus announced yesterday that its app will be available on the latest PlayStation 4 console when it hits shelves on Nov. 15. As a way to promote the app integration, Hulu is offering the first episode of its original series The Wrong Mans for free to PS3 and PS4 users who download the app. Also, the app in general has been upgraded and redesigned specifically for the PS4.
Vine has joined the Windows phone family, the company announced yesterday, and it will include a few extra features that specifically utilize the device’s capabilities. Although the app mostly resembles what is found on the Android and iOS versions, Window’s phone owners can also have the ability to pin certain vines to the home screen.
MSNBC announced the launch of a new app for iPhone, iPad and iTouch as part of NBCUniversal‘s TV Everywhere rollout. The free app, for authenticated subscribers of participating services, offers live streaming of MSNBC, as well as access to on demand eps of MSNBC programs.
Eric McPherson has joined Maker Studios as its new Chief Content Officer. Previously, McPherson was Yahoo’s top video and programming executive, which she ran the site’s online video component that included its hit original show Burning Love.
Tech company Red Touch Media announced it has appointed Jesse Redniss to its Board of Directors. Redniss has been nominated for an Emmy, and formerly worked at USA Networks as the Senior Vice President of Digital. “Our company is rapidly changing the way digital content is being managed in the entertainment industry and Jesse has the right set of skills to help guide us toward further growth in this space,” Wayne Scholes, CEO of Red Touch Media told Cynopsis.
A+E Networks has promoted Michael Feeney to be Executive Vice President, Corporate Communications. Most recently, Feeney was Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications for the network, and first joined A+E in 2001 as the Director of HISTORY Publicity and Public Affairs.
Digital marketing tech firm MediaMath has hired Michael Lamb as its newly created Chief Commercial Officer. Lamb most recently was with McKinsey and Company for ten years, advising entertainment and advertising companies.
Music discovery app Shazam has hired Jonathan Block-Verk as its newly created role of Executive Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, Head of Television. Block-Verk was formerly TV marketing executives firm PromaxBDA’s President and CEO for the past six years.
