Republicans paid more attention to political ads than Democrats during the months of September and October, according to TVision. They also paid more attention, in general, to all TV ads. Additional findings include:
· Independent Females increased their attention to political ads, compared to the attention they paid to all other ads.
· The youngest Democrat viewers (18-34) and middle-aged Republican viewers (45-54) paid significantly more attention to political ads than other ads in the time period.
Young Independent TV viewers were unlikely to engage with any type of TV ad, but especially with political ads in the time period. |

The seven major election swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin collectively saw over $1.8 billion in ad spending since Super Tuesday, according to a new report from AdImpact. Pennsylvania saw the highest overall spending, with Democrats airing $261.9 million in ads and Republicans airing $232.4 million. Additional findings include:
· In the past 60 days, there has been $1.05 billion in linear ad spending, with Democrats spending $592 million and Republicans spending $457 million.
· Since entering the race, the Harris campaign spent $646.3 million, making them the highest-spending advertiser in the Presidential race and for the entire 2024 political cycle. The Trump campaign spent $358.8 million.
· Since July 22, digital spending has seen about $419 million, making up 17% of total Presidential spending. |
 Venu Sports, the joint venture from Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery, would “capture hundreds of thousands of subscribers and tens of millions of dollars from Fubo alone, driving Fubo into insolvency, and destroying or damaging other distributors,” argued Fubo in a brief filed this week in an appeals court. The court is reviewing a lower court’s ruling against the JV, when Fubo won a preliminary injunction last summer that blocked Venu from its scheduled launch in the fall. Disney, Fox and WBD “have structured the JV to avoid anything like competition on the merits,” said the brief.
DoubeVerify announced an expanded integration with Snap to offer brand safety and suitability measurement, enabling advertisers to independently authenticate campaign quality and protect brand reputation within Snap’s user-generated platform. “DV’s mission is to help brands maximize digital investments and drive superior business outcomes,” said Mark Zagorski, CEO at DoubleVerify. “To support this objective, DV offers industry-leading measurement coverage wherever priority audiences consume media online – and especially in fast-growing, user-generated content environments like Snap.”
Paramount Global non-executive chair Shari Redstone will reportedly leave the company’s board of directors following completion of its $8 billion merger with Skydance Media. An SEC filing reveals Skydance CEO David Ellison will be board chairman and Jeff Shell, named as president of the new company, will be given a board seat. Skydance’s deal to acquire Redstone’s National Amusements holding company is slated to close in the first half of 2025.
Just because Dr. Phil McGraw gave a speech at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally doesn’t mean he voted Republican. The founder of Merit Street Media and star of its “Dr. Phil Primetime” told Piers Morgan that he had offered his support for a Kamala Harris event “25-plus” times but had been snubbed; his appearance on behalf of Trump was “an act of rebellion on my part.” As for who he was planning to vote for, McGraw told Morgan, “I’ll never tell.”

| A French investigation into tax fraud and laundering at Netflix is being carried out by France’s special financial crime prosecution unit. Investigators raided the company’s offices in central Paris on Tuesday morning, as Dutch authorities were searching the company’s European headquarters in Amsterdam, said a French judicial source. “Cooperation between the French and Dutch authorities has been underway for many months as part of these proceedings,” the source said. Weekly news magazine Marianne, which broke the news, said the searches were part of a preliminary investigation opened in November 2022 for “laundering of aggravated tax fraud” and “concealed work in an organized gang.” Responded a Netflix spokesperson, “We are co-operating with the authorities in France, where Netflix is a significant contributor to the local economy – and we comply with the tax laws and regulations in all the countries in which we operate.”
Aso in the legal crosshairs is Paramount Global, which is facing a class action lawsuit for allegedly sharing Paramount+ subscribers’ viewing data with Meta and TikTok. Filed by California resident Victor Cho, the lawsuit alleges violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act, which prohibits the disclosure of information about viewing habits. Cho is seeking a sum of at least $5 million in monetary damages.
Warner Bros. Television responded to a breach of contract lawsuit filed by the widow of “ER” creator Michael Crichton. The suit alleges upcoming Max medical drama “The Pitt” is a copy of “ER,” created after negotiations for a reboot of “ER” failed. “’The Pitt’ is a completely different show from ‘ER’,” says the filing. “Plaintiff cannot use Mr. Crichton’s ‘ER’ contract as a speech-stifling weapon to prevent Defendants from ever making a show about emergency medicine.” |
