Triple play: A&E Networks can claim a programming first when it simultaneously debuts its original miniseries Bonnie & Clyde on three networks later this year. Sister nets A&E, Lifetime and History will simulcast the program, in a bid not only to lasso both male-skewing History viewers and Lifetime’s female-heavy audience, but to attract potential advertisers looking for broad reach. Bonnie & Clyde is the latest in the company’s miniseries revival, led by History’s Hatfields & McCoys, whose finale drew 14.3 million, and The Bible, which drew 10.3 million viewers for its finale. Expect to hear more about this at A&E’s Upfront, tonight.


OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network will premiere the original series Golden Sisters on Saturday, June 1 at 10p. The series follows the real-life adventures of the three golden-aged sisters – the oldest sister is 80 and the others aren’t far behind–who catapulted to fame after a web video of the trio viewing the Kardashian sex tape went viral. 

Do the Hustle: National music net Fuse is tossing its hat into scripted programming with The Hustle, about an underground rap duo trying to break into the world of hip-hop. The six-episode series, created and exec-produced by Prentice Penny (Happy Endings, Scrubs, Girlfriends), premieres Wednesday, June 19 (11pm/10c).  The Hustle was developed by Generate, an Alloy Digital-owned production and talent management company.

AT&T, Ford and State Farm are on board as sponsors of Telemundo Media’s new singing competition La Voz Kids. The show premiered Monday to 1.7 million total viewers, 873,000 among adults 18-49, according to Nielsen data, ranking as the No. 1 reality premiere in the network’s history. The series airs Sundays at 7p.m. (ET) on Telemundo. AT&T will become the official voting partner for the show, and the winner will receive a recording contract with Universal Music and a $50,000 prize presented by AT&T to help support his or her education.

Remember James Lipton’s famous Bernard Pivot questionnaire? Bravo Media’s Inside the Actors Studio is feting its 250th episode Wednesday, May 29 (7p), with a two-hour special featuring a slew of celebs and former guests. Host Lipton’s guest list includes alums Bradley Cooper, Robert DeNiro, Jennifer Lopez, Barbara Walters, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien and Spike Lee and newcomers Katie Couric, Donald Trump and Sugar Ray Leonard. Viewers will see highlights from the show’s 19 seasons and will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite episode at

BBC America is raising up its three-night “In the Flesh” zombie miniseries beginning Thursday, June 6, at 10p. The miniseries probes a post-zombie-uprising–from the zombie’s perspective, using a fresh perspective on the undead to probe a story that tackles relatable family and domestic issues.

NBC News aces an exclusive interview with tennis legend Jimmy Connors, who talks with Harry Smith before the release of his tell-all memoir, The Outsider. Connors will be live on Today on Friday, May 10 and later that night (10p/9c) on Rock Center with Brian Williams.

It’s a mixed bag for Discovery Communications, which posted a Q1 gain of 3.6%, to $231 million, over the same period last year but fell just short of analyst projections, the third consecutive time the company has slipped under Wall Street expectations. Discovery’s first-quarter revenue came in at $1.16 billion, up 6.5% from Q1 2012. But earnings at 64 cents a share were one penny shy of the consensus forecast. Revenue for Discovery’s U.S. networks were up 1% to $686 million; international performance was much brighter, with revenue up 17% to $444 million and adjusted cash flow up 8% to $184 million.

Disney, on the other hand, posted a 32% rise in quarterly profit thanks to its parks, resorts, and movie business. The media networks, including ABC, the Disney Channel, and ESPN, reported a 7.7% gain in operating income.

CBS is displaying model behavior this week when it sends The Talk co-hosts Julie Chen and Sheryl Underwood to guest-model the merchandise on The Price Is Right on Thursday, May 9 (11am-noon).

FX series The Americans is elevating guest stars Annet Mahendru (Nina) and Alison Wright (Martha) to series regulars for its second season, slated to begin production in the fall.  Susan Misner (Sandra Beeman) was previously upped to series regular.


DirecTV added 21,000 U.S. subscribers during Q1, down from the 81,000 the distributor added during the same period in 2012. The satellite company ended March with 20.1 million U.S. subs, and reported quarterly earnings of $690 million compared with $731 million in the year-prior period. On an adjusted basis, earnings rose to $826 million and revenue jumped 8% to $7.58 billion, exceeding analyst projections.


Venevision and Sony Entertainment Television will premiere their co-production Miss Venezuela, Todo Por La Corona (Miss Venezuela, All For The Crown) on July 15 in Venezuela and other key Latin American markets.  The 15 weekly episodes will probe the candidate selection process and prep for the competition.

Disney Channel is promoting Adam Bonnett to the newly created position of EVP, original programming, Disney Channels Worldwide. Bonnett, who will continue to report to Disney pres/chief creative officer Gary Marsh, will continue to oversee all live action development and current original series and movies for Disney Channel and Disney XD, as well as casting and talent relations for those channels.

NBCUniversal has named Thomas McCarthy has been named SVP and chief security officer, based in New York. McCarthy joins NBCU from the United States Secret Service, where he served most recently as special agent in charge of the Vice Presidential Protective Division.

A+E Networks has promoted four industry veterans to Executive Vice President: Jim Agius of A&E/Bio; Amy Baker of Lifetime/LMN, Peter Olsen of History/H2 and Michael Peretz of Ad Sales Revenue Management and Operations, A+E Networks, respectively. Agius, Baker and Olsen will spearhead A&E, Lifetime and History, across linear and non-linear platforms.  Peretz works across all ad platforms to maximize both short and long-term advertising revenues across all media devices from a pricing, inventory and systems perspective; and will work closely with outside vendors and measurement companies to scale up the digital revenue sales processes.

Weigel Broadcasting Co. has appointed three new network managers: Garth Franklin, network creative leader for The Me-TV Network and Movies!; William M. Craig, brand director of Movies! Network; and Ed Johnson, head of content and scheduling for Movies! Network.

New York-based ad agency The Field is creating new division The Field [Social], to use the power of celebrities and business leaders to promote brands, causes, and products, and bringing in Shpresa Oruci as director of media outreach. Oruci previously was program director for The Creative Coalition, the organization founded by Ron Silver, Christopher Reeve, Alec Baldwin and William Baldwin.
