On the day before its Upfront, CBS canceled frosh spinoff drama series Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and at the same time renewed CSI: NY for an eighth season.  Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior debuted in midseason and for its last airing on May 11, posted a 2.1 rating among A18-49 and 9.3 million total viewers, below the average of the original Criminal Minds series.

The CW hosts its Upfront event on Thursday and already has signed on new three dramas for the upcoming season:

  • The Secret Circle – Based on the three-book series by L.J. Smith, the plot is about a young woman (Britt Robertson) who moves to a new town where she discovers she is a witch and the catalyst for a centuries-old battle between good and evil.  Produced by Alloy.
  • Hart of Dixie – A young New York doctor (Rachel Bilson) inherits a medical practice in a small Southern town inhabited by eccentrics.
  • Ringer – Sarah Michelle Gellar helms this drama about a woman on the run from the mob who hides by taking on the life of her twin sister. Ioan Gruffud and Kristoffer Polaha co-star; ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios are producing.

Further 2011-2012 season news from The CW is a renewal of One Tree Hill and frosh spy drama Nikita. The network also released the college cheerleading frosh drama Hellcats off its schedule.

Season three of Celebrity Ghost Stories premieres June 18 at 9p on BIO Channel featuring first-person narrative stories from celebrities such as Regis Philbin, Harry Hamlin, Ana Gasteyer, Jaime King and Jerry Stiller among many others.  Following at 10p, BIO launches new series Celebrity Close Calls where noted celebrities relate true stories of events that almost ended in death.  During the first season Jewel, Ice-T, Jermaine Jackson, Niki Taylor and Gary Busey as well as others tell their near-death stories.  Both Celebrity Ghost Stories and Celebrity Close Calls are produced by Jarrett Creative Group for BIO Channel.

Next Monday, Discovery Fit & Health scheduled the US premiere of World’s Worst Teens at 10p.  The one-hour, five-episode series profiles different families struggling with teenagers who have overwhelming problems. Behavioral expert Lorrine Marer offers her direct approach to help these families.  World’s Worst Teens is produced by talkbackTHAMES.

The Weather Channel (TWC) reacted to this week’s rainy weather forecast in New York City, the site of the annual Upfronts.  In the midst of the torrential rains, TWC kept many advertising agency buyers covered by doing a large “umbrella drop” at several major advertising agencies.

Bravo’s season debut of The Real Housewives of New Jersey on Monday scored the highest rated season premiere in the network’s history by delivering 2.02 million A18-49 and the highest rated season opener in the Housewives franchise with 2.87 million total viewers.

French broadcast and broadband technical service provider, Cognacq-Jay Image acquired Spanish company BeBanjo a developer of back-office software to manage non-linear television services.  Combining their assets, the merged companies will offer a complete digital media solution for linear and non-linear platforms.
