WE tv serves up its 2011-2012 programming slate including three new original series:
- Amsale Girls – Series follows the Manhattan-based women who work at Amsale, selling upscale bridal gowns that can cost up to $75,000. Produced by Authentic Entertainment. Six one-hour eps debut June 12 at 10p.
- Texas Multi Mamas – Series profiles Texas moms who have all experienced multiple births. Shed Media produces. Eight one-hour eps premiere October 25 at 9p.
- The Willis Clan – The Willis family is the centerpiece of this reality series about the dozen Willis children whose parents, Toby and Brenda, encourage them to strive for excellence in a plethora of activities. Rivr Media produces. The six-episode, one-hour series debuts in 2012.
WE tv set the premiere dates for two other series:
- Family Restaurant – Reality series about The Lingnan, a family-run Chinese restaurant that has become a legacy during its 60+ years in business. Produced by Anaid Productions Inc. Series with 10 half-hour eps debuts August 16 at 10p.
- The Cupcake Girls – Season two from Force Four Entertainment with 14 half-hour eps opens on June 21 at 10p.
WE tv also offers an update on other previously announced series:
- Staten Island Cakes – The eight-episode one-hour series from Nancy Glass Productions bows June 21 at 9p.
- Downsized – A second season with 10 one-hour eps from Pie Town Productions opens August 16 at 9p.
- Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best? – Ten one-hour episodes return in January 2012.
- Fix My Family – Eight one-hour eps from ISH Entertainment will premiere next year.
- Braxton Family Values – WE tv announced a second season renewal for the original series featuring singer/songwriter Toni Braxton and her four sisters Tamar, Trina, Towanda and Traci. The series is produced for WE tv by Magical Elves and will be back on the network’s schedule next year with 13 all-new one-hour eps.
Summer is on the horizon for CBS as it brings back a new run of Big Brother debuting July 7 at 9p. Big Brother, hosted by Julie Chen, will air weekly on three nights: Wednesdays at 8p starting July 13; the live eviction show on Thursdays at 9p beginning July 14; and Sundays at 8p opening July 10. CBS further slated its new one-hour reality series Same Name to launch July 24 at 9p which forms a two-hour reality block on Sundays along with Big Brother.
Medical drama House starring Hugh Laurie is sticking around for an eighth season on FOX. A new episode of House airs next Monday at 8p. House is a production of Heel and Toe Films, Shore Z Productions and Bad Hat Harry Productions in association with Universal Media Studios.
News program Vanguard continues for a fifth season on Current TV starting June 20 at 9p, directly following the premiere of Keith Olbermann’s new live weeknight show, Countdown at 8p. On Monday nights through August, docu-series Vanguard will offer seven new editions examining a variety of global issues.
Also beginning June 20, a new season of RuPaul’s Drag U opens on Logo at 9p. The upcoming season follows RuPaul and his drag queen faculty as they help a new crop unleash their inner diva. The series with ten one-hour episodes is from World of Wonder Productions.
Homeowners who want their backyards to look like a Disney theme park can tune into HGTV’s new weekly series, My Yard Goes Disney premiering June 6 at 8p. The six-episode series, hosted by R. Brandon Johnson, partners with Disney Parks to surprise families with a backyard makeover complete with such elements like a miniature teacup ride to a pool shaped like Mickey Mouse.
National Geographic Channel premieres a fifth season of Locked Up Abroad June 8 at 10p. The one-hour series relates firsthand stories of capture, imprisonment and horror when a person is far from home and locked away. The opening episode is the series’ first American premiere telling the true story of New York gangster Henry Hill who was depicted in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 film Goodfellas. Locked Up Abroad is produced for Nat Geo by Raw TV Limited.
Later this summer, Discovery Channel serves up its 24th annual Shark Week beginning July 31 at 9p. The week-long programming event is hosted by the network’s first-ever Chief Shark Officer (CSO), comedian Andy Samberg and includes seven new specials plus popular vintage shows from previous years. The 2010 Shark Week attracted 30.8 million people, making it the most-watched Shark Week ever.
Sunday’s premiere of Why Not? With Shania Twain on OWN : Oprah Winfrey Network at 11p marked the network’s highest-rated debut to date beyond its launch weekend. Why Not? With Shania Twain posted a 0.80 rating among W25-54 and 839,000 total viewers. Prior to Shania Twain’s series debut at 10p, the finale episode of The Judds pulled in a 0.48 rating with W25-54 and 555,000 total viewers. Why Not? With Shania Twain moves this Sunday to its regular time slot of 10p.
Veteran broadcast news executive, Jeff Gralnick, 72 died Monday at his home in Connecticut. Mr. Gralnick worked for many major broadcast news operations including 20 years at ABC in various capacities including executive producer of World News Tonight with Peter Jennings; as a writer at CBS working with Harry Reasoner and Walter Cronkite; and later became EVP over financial news for CNN until 2001 when afterward he departed to establish his own consulting firm. More recently, Mr. Gralnick was an executive producer of the NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw, followed by a consultantancy to NBC News president Steve Capus. Mr. Gralnick is survived by his wife, Beth, who has requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society. The family is holding a visitation from 5-9 p.m. this Friday at Harding Funeral Home in Westport, Connecticut.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis: Two major sports went head-to-head Saturday night, though ABC won with a 3.2/11 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, ABC’s NBA Playoffs did best with a 2.6/10 followed by FOX’s NASCAR race at 1.9/7. ABC’s NBA ratings moved up to a 3.3/11 during 9p and FOX’s NASCAR Sprint Cup remained steady at 1.9/7. ABC’s NBA Playoff game posted its best ratings at 10p with a 4.0/12 while FOX’s NASCAR stayed in second place with a 2.0/7.

Jeffrey L. Hinz appointed Managing Partner/Digital Director at MediaCom U.S. Jeffrey will have responsibility over the agency’s complete digital business in addition to offering leadership and strategic counsel for all existing and future digital media efforts.
Cheil North America added Dave Weaver as Managing Director over the company-owned full service One Agency with offices in New York and Dallas, effective immediately. Holly Tang promoted to CFO with Bravo Media, effective as of yesterday. Previously, Holly served as Senior Director/Financial Planning and Analysis for Bravo Media. In her new role, Holly will head the network’s financial oversight activities encompassing Bravo’s strategic and long-term planning. She is based at Bravo’s New York office and reports jointly to Frances Berwick, President, Bravo Media and to Salil Mehta, COO/CFO, NBCUniversal Entertainment and Digital Networks and Integrated Media.
Will Misselbrook joins BBH New York as Head/Interactive Production. Prior to his new appointment, Will was in London serving as Production Director/Executive Producer at Imagination.
Meredith Integrated Marketing, a unit of Meredith Corporation tagged Dan Rubin for the newly-created position as Director/Digital Strategy. Dan is charged with developing digital marketing goals across Meredith Integrated Marketing’s Customer Relationship Marketing (CRM) and Content roster of clients. Dan reports to David Brown, EVP/GM, Meredith Integrated Marketing.
Tremendous! Entertainment behind Travel Channel’s series, Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern tapped Tim Hamilton to head and grow the company’s development efforts at its newly opened Burbank, CA office.
NASCAR announced a slew of new talent and new assignments for its executive team where all appointments are effective immediately:
- In the broadcasting division, Steve Herbst added to NASCAR Media Group (NMG) as VP/Broadcasting and Global Media Strategy, reporting to NMG President Paul Brooks and based at NASCAR’s New York office. Most recently, Steve was EVP/GM of CBS College Sports Network from 2008-2010.
- Paul Brooks, President of NASCAR Media Group continues in this role and will additionally head the newly-established NASCAR Innovation Group which will spur innovation and integration of new technologies throughout the NASCAR industry.
- Jim O’Connell, recently elevated to Chief Sales Officer will now manage a consolidated intellectual property group charged with overseeing all properties sporting the NASCAR trademark. Jim will continue to report to NASCAR CMO Steve Phelps.
- Norris Scott upped to VP/ Partnership Marketing where he, along with Blake Davidson in Licensing and Todd Armstrong in Auto Aftermarket will all report to Jim O’Connell.
- Marc Jenkins promoted to VP/Digital to head NASCAR’s digital media efforts. Marc reports now to Steve Phelps, CMO.
- Brett Jewkes heads NASCAR’s Integrated Marketing Communications unit which has added Jon Schwartz as Director/Business Communications.
- Eric Nyquist continues to oversee strategic planning for NASCAR as VP/Strategic Development and he also supervises the entertainment efforts managed by Zane Stoddard in the company’s Los Angeles office as well as NASCAR’s green efforts led by Michael Lynch.
- Furthermore, NASCAR promoted three other executives: Jill Gregory as VP/Industry Services, reporting to Steve O’Donnell, SVP/Racing Operations; George Silbermann boosted to VP/Regional and Touring Series, reporting to Steve O’Donnell; and Marcus Jadotte bumped to VP/Public Affairs and Multicultural Development, reporting to Gary Crotty, SVP/General Counsel on public affairs efforts and to Steve O’Donnell on multicultural issues.
