~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

New drama series Terra Nova has been canceled by FOX though the series’ studio, Twentieth Century Fox Television is seeking a new home for the show on another network.  Terra Nova completed its first season with 13 episodes last December.  Despite opening the season with a 3.0 rating among A18-49, Terra Nova finished its run with a 2.2 rating in the demo for its season finale.

The CW ordered three new reality series for its summer schedule which will join the network’s previously-announced game show Oh Sit!.  The three new series include: The Star Next Door, a music competition series from Queen Latifah and EP Dave Broome that will also feature Gloria Estefan and country singer John Rich as they travel the US as mentors to undiscovered artists; Breaking Pointe goes inside the competitive world of ballet via the Ballet West company in Salt Lake City, Utah; and the third series is The Catalina, centered on the employees and guests at a hotel in Miami’s South Beach.

A fourth season renewal was handed to drama series Justified by FX.  The series will have 13 episodes for the next season.  In its third season, Justified has six episodes left to air with the finale slated for April 10.

Zodiak Rights, the international unit of Zodiak Media made a simulcast deal with Canada’s City TV and ABC in the US involving the series Secret Millionaire with 13 one-hour episodes.  City TV has picked up the rights to the finished series and optioned the rights for the format.  Furthermore, City TV will simulcast Secret Millionaire USA season 3 at the same time the series premieres in the US on ABC later this year.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Fresh off her stint on FX’s American Horror Story, Connie Britton (also star of Friday Night Lights) landed a role in the ABC drama pilot Nashville.  Britton will play Rayna, considered the top female country music performer.  The pilot is from Callie Khouri and director/producer R.J. Cutler and is described as a family soap set amongst the music scene of Nashville.  The plot follows one star at her peak (Britton) while following another rising star (Hayden Panettiere).

Marc Cherry’s new pilot for ABC titled Devious Maids has tapped General Hospital’s Brianna Brown, per THR.  Brown will play Taylor Slate, the elegant trophy wife of Michael Slate, who is insecure that his ex, Marisol, is still in his life.  ABC Studios is producing and Cherry is writer and EP along with Sabrina Wind, Paul Presburger, David Lonner, Larry Shuman, Michael Garcia and John mass.

Robbie Amell will play the co-lead opposite Colin Ferguson in the FOX comedy pilot Like Father

Currently seen on CBS’ The Good Wife in a recurring role, Mamie Gummer landed a starring role on The CW’s medical drama pilot First Cut.  Gummer will play a new doctor glad to leave her nerdy past behind though discovers life at the hospital is not that different from high school.

Submissions Call: Fox Broadcasting Company (FOX) and the NYTVF present the fifth annual FOX-NYTVF Comedy Script Contest.  The contest allows aspiring TV writers the chance to enter their scripts for original half-hour comedy TV pilots to win $25,000 and a development deal with FOX.  Scripts must present an original idea for a potential half-hour comedy series.  The first date for script submissions is April 16 and the winner will be announced at the 8th Annual New York Television Festival, October 22-27 in lower Manhattan.  The contest is open to US residents age 18 and over and who do not have any contractual commitments preventing them from entering into an exclusive development deal with FOX.  For the official rules, please visit http://nytvf.com/2012_fox_rules.html.
