Cyberbullying is the target of a new tween and teen targeted public service campaign launched yesterday by The Advertising Council in partnership with the National Crime Prevention Council, US Dept. of Justice, and Crime Prevention Coalition of America. Created by pro bono ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi, the multimedia campaign includes viral videos and radio and web advertising. The PSAs direct consumers to http://www.ncpc.org/ to learn more about cyberbullying. According to the National Crime Prevention Council, 43% of Teens 13-17 say they have experienced cyberbullying in the past year. The study also found that nine in ten teens who had experienced cyberbullying (92%) reported that they knew the person who was bullying them. Additionally, teens are twice as likely to talk to a friend about the incident rather than their parents or another adult. The Advertising Council points to studies that report it is specifically teen girls that are the biggest perpetrators of cyberbullying.
