Showtime laid out the spring/summer premiere dates for several series:
- On March 28, Nurse Jackie debuts at 10p with 12 total half-hour episodes for its third season.
- United States of Tara also premieres a third season on March 28 at 1030p with a dozen half-hour episodes.
- Epic new series The Borgias launches with a two-hour premiere on April 3 at 9p. Subsequent new one-hour episodes will air on Sundays at 10p.
- Secret Diary of a Call Girl Final season debuts April 7 at 1030p with 8 half-hour episodes.
- Reality series Gigolos opens April 7 at 11p with 8 half-hour episodes.
- The Real L Word is back for a second season starting June 5 at 10p with 9 one-hour episodes.
- Weeds returns for a seventh season on June 27 at 10p with 13 half-hour eps.
- The Big C also launches its sophomore season on June 27 at 1030p with 13 half-hour eps.
- Web Therapy premieres July 19 at 11p with 10 half-hour eps.
ABC handed a renewal notice for its reality competition series Bachelor Pad, a spinoff of The Bachelor/The Bachelorette. The sophomore season of Bachelor Pad launches this August. Next Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Television produces The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and Bachelor Pad.
This Sunday, E! introduces viewers to the crew of writers, producers, editors and other staffers working on the weeknight Chelsea Lately show as After Lately premieres at 11p. The half-hour program features the real staffers working for the late night comedy show helmed by Chelsea Handler. Dubbed as a mocku-series, After Lately’s eight episodes are executive produced by Handler and Tom Brunelle, with Jay Karas and Brad Wollack as co-executive producers and Johnny Milord as supervising producer in association with Borderline Amazing Productions.
On Monday, CNN en Espanol premieres three new shows: Cafe CNN is a three-hour news magazine show featuring news and entertainment updates Monday-Friday from 6a to 9a; CNN Dinero is a one-hour weeknight show at 8p focused on finance and economy issues; and Conclusiones hosted by Fernando del Rincon and Gabriela Frias will air at 10p analyzing key events of the day.
MTV wants more of Rob Dyrdek as the network brings back a fourth season of Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory beginning April 4 at 1030p. Dyrdek will also host a new MTV series, Ridiculousness launching June 9 at 10p where Dyrdek will dish on amateur online videos in front of a studio audience with his friends, Johnny Knoxville, Travis Pastrana, Ryan Dunn and Big Black making appearances.
Rosie Pope, working as a maternity concierge for wealthy expectant mothers in New York City, is starring in a new docu-drama, Pregnant in Heels for Bravo. The series, produced by Hud:sun Media for Bravo, debuts April 5 at 10p. British-born Rosie also created and designed her own fashion line for pregnant women called Rosie Pope Maternity and developed a training academy for mothers-to-be called MomPrep. The Bravo series will follow Rosie as she preps upcoming moms on motherhood while managing her store on the Upper East Side along with her assistants Hannah and LT.
Season two of Oddities on Science Channel premieres April 9 at 10p. The series goes inside Obscura Antiques and Oddities in New York’s East Village filled with countless bizarre items operated by owners Mike and Evan. Oddities is produced by Leftfield Pictures for Science Channel.
Effective immediately, Katz Television Group’s Continental Television Sales will represent WBNX-TV in Cleveland, owned by Winston Broadcasting Network TV. WBNX-TV is the CW affiliate serving the Cleveland/Akron/Canton, Ohio region.

Upfront 2011: Sundance Channel
At a press breakfast yesterday in New York City, Sundance Channel said it will double its original programming hours this year to 75-80 hours, beginning with this lineup of seven new and returning series and two non-fiction series in development. Sundance characterizes its audience as “curious, adventurous, smart, and they demand the same from their medium.”
Sundance Channel 2011 Original Programming:
- All On the Line – Previously announced series featuring Joe Zee, the creative director for ELLE. In this new series, Joe will use his fashion savvy to help struggling fashion designers launch their lines. Produced by Authentic Entertainment, the eight-episode, one-hour series premieres March 29.
- Garo Unleashed – NY East Village based fashion designer, Garo works with people looking for show-stopping one-of-a-kind fashions that depict their personalities. Produced by North South Productions with six one-hour episodes.
- Love|Lust – Series explores the story behind iconic items such as the bikini, the little black dress, street food to cocktails. Produced by Sharp Entertainment with 14 one-hour episodes.
- Quirky – Series centers on the team at Quirky.com, a unique technology company that will design and fabricate one product idea each episode suggested by their online community. Produced by Sharp Entertainment with six one-hour episodes.
- Ludo Bites America – Chef Ludo Lefebvre is a 5-star French chef, who along with his business partner/wife, Krissy, travels across the US to reinvent American cuisine in short term pop up restaurants. Produced by Authentic Entertainment with six one-hour episodes.
- Shoebox Sessions – Hosted by David Nadelberg, this series witnesses surprising and sometimes embarrassing items found in a celebrity’s mementos box, all providing clues to the person’s personality and growth. Produced by Relativity Real with ten half-hour episodes.
Two Sundance Channel series in development:
- Neumont (wt) Series features Neumont University, a high pressure though high reward technology school for uber-smart kids who are being groomed as the next Zuckerbergs, Gates and Jobs.
- Diva of Distressed (wt) Lynn Tilton dubbed as the “Diva of Distressed” takes on the task of saving America’s struggling businesses. She works with Main Street businesses to get them back on track with stability, pride and hope.
And a final announcement yesterday morning, Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys will return for a second season.
Following up on previously mentioned casting news, ABC officially finalized deals with Ashley Judd to star in the drama pilot Missing, and also with Jenna Elfman who will headline the single-camera comedy Bad Mom.
Rachelle Lefevre, familiar as star in the first two Twilight movies, landed a role on NBC’s post-Civil War era pilot The Crossing. Lefevre will play Anna, a war widow raising her daughter in a Missouri border town and the love interest of the main character, the troubled veteran who comes to town. Universal Media Studios is producing project along with Peter Horton and Josh Brand who are executive producing; Horton will also direct the pilot. Lefevre is also currently seen on ABC’s medical drama Off the Map.
HBO is working on a new guy ensemble series project starring Ed Burns. The half-hour pilot is tentatively titled 40 and is about a group of male friends who are all 40 years old and trying to find their way at this age. Entourage’s Doug Ellin is behind the project as writer and executive producer. The pilot is expected to begin production this fall in New York.
Casting Call: Discovery Networks seeking men and women for a new survivalist show. The program is looking for any and all types of people: hunters, fishermen, construction workers, psychologists, doctors, chefs, nutritionists, auto mechanics, engineers, fashion designers and many more types. The interested candidates must be 18 to 50 years old. Casting Call: dLt Casting and The Hub casting families in teams of three in the Southern California area for a new game show. Family teams should consist of parents, grandparents or another adult family member or guardian and preferably two children aged 8-14 years. All applicants must be legal or permanent US residents, live in Southern California or be willing to travel there to be on the show, be available to shoot in late March or early April 2011, and have consent of legal guardian or parent for kids under the age of 18. Saturday A18-49 Analysis: FOX won over the A18-49 viewers Saturday night with a 1.8/6, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. FOX and its “bad boys” topped at 8p with double Cops episodes averaging a 1.8/7 while a two-way tie occurred for second place between ABC’s Movie and Univision’s Sabado Gigante at 0.7/3 each. FOX remained in #1 through 9p with AMW: America Fights Back at 1.9/6 and a triple tie happened as ABC’s Movie, CBS’ Crimetime Saturday repeat and Univision’s Sabado Gigante all delivered a 0.9/3. Then at 10p, ABC’s Movie, The Pursuit of Happyness and CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery shared the top spot at 1.2/4 each and Univision’s Sabado Gigante placed second again with a 1.0/3.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis: Everything was golden for ABC Sunday night among A18-49 with a 9.1/24, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 7p, ABC led with its first and second Oscar’s Red Carpet Live specials averaging a 3.3/11 followed by the average of FOX’s The Simpsons and American Dad repeats at 1.7/5. During 8p, ABC’s ratings rose to a 9.4/25 for the third Oscar’s Red Carpet Live special and the opening of the 83rd Academy Awards, and CBS’ The Amazing Race trailed with a 2.1/5. The Academy Awards on ABC delivered its best ratings at 9p with a 12.2/30 and FOX was back in second place at 2.0/5 for its Family Guy one-hour encore. For its last hour through 10p, the Academy Awards’ on ABC backed off a bit to a 11.6/29, though was far ahead of the next nearest competitor as CBS’ CSI: Miami posted a 2.0/5.

Monday A18-49 Analysis: ABC swayed more A18-49 viewers Monday night by posting a 3.3/9, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. It was FOX and House that topped at 8p with a 3.8/11 and ABC’s The Bachelor and the average of CBS’ How I Met Your Mother and Mad Love tied for #2 at 3.1/9 apiece. The Bachelor on ABC boldly won the 9p hour at 3.9/11 and CBS took second place with a Two and a Half Men rerun and Mike & Molly which averaged a 3.4/9. ABC remained in first place through 10p with Castle at 2.8/8 and CBS once again took #2 with a Hawaii Five-O repeat at 1.9/6. Also in the 10p hour, Telemundo premiered new original novela La Reina del Sur (Queen of the South) with a 1.2/3, ranking fifth overall. Young & Rubicam revealed management changes to its West Coast operation and in so doing named Joe Kayser to the new position as CCO of Y&R West. Joe will be based in San Francisco and will have oversight of the company’s creative strategy in San Francisco and Los Angeles on behalf of such clients as Chevron, Citrix, Jenny Craig, Mattel, NCAA and Roundtable Pizza. Additionally, John Berg, President of Y&R West is leaving his position immediately. In the interim, Tom Sebok, President/CEO of Y&R North America will supervise Y&R West. A search for a permanent replacement for John Berg has begun.
Phil Ernst moves into the new position as SVP/Special Projects and Events with MSG Entertainment (MSGE). Previously, Phil was SVP/Touring Productions for MSGE. Now, Phil will manage all facets of MSGE’s development and implementation of residency engagements and MSGE’s special event business at all MSG venues.
Brooke Bowman upped to SVP/Original Programming and Development at ABC Family. In her new capacity, Brooke manages creative and production for the network’s original series and movies. Brooke, who has been with the network since 2004, has been the programming executive in charge of a slew of series for ABC Family including The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Make It or Break It and Greek. Brooke will additionally be the programming executive lead on the upcoming new drama Switched at Birth and the original movie My Future Boyfriend. She continues to report to Kate Juergens, EVP/Original Programming and Development, ABC Family.
BBC America expanded into the Detroit market by opening a new ad sales office headed by Ted Andrusz as Sales Director. Ted formerly worked for The Weather Channel the last ten years as VP/Regional Sales Manager. For BBC America’s Chicago office, the company added Kerry Mysliwiec as AE. Kerry joins from MTV Networks.
Bellevue, Washington-based Visual Media Group hired Neil Weiner as VP/Business Development where he will lead VMG’s growing business in the Pacific Northwest region.
Eddie Brown elevated to President/GM of CW affiliate WBNX-TV in Cleveland, owned by Winston Broadcasting Network TV. Most recently, Eddie was GSM and has been with the station since it launched in 1985.
Casey Patterson advanced to EVP/Event Production, Talent Development and Studio Relations for the MTV Networks Entertainment Group. Before this promotion, Casey was SVP of Spike TV and TV Land. In her new role, Casey will fulfill her functions for the Entertainment Group consisting of the brands Comedy Central, Spike TV and TV Land as well as the websites Atom.com and GameTrailers.com. She will report to Doug Herzog, President, MTV Networks Entertainment Group.
