Good Morning. It’s Wednesday, March 22, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Comedy Central’s South Park returns this evening with a season opener episode titled The Return of the Chef. You’ll recall Isaac Hayes, the voice of Chef, left the show just about a week ago, citing “inappropriate ridicule” of religion, more specifically of the Church of Scientology. Hayes did not return to South Park to voice tonight’s episode, and there are swirling rumors as to how show creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker will pull this one off, with one rumor suggesting they pieced together dialogue from previous episodes. The synopsis of this evenings episode says that after Chef returns to town, his friends notice there is something different about him.
Tonight’s Premieres:
Fox: Unan1mous at 9p
ABC: Evidence at 10p
NBC: Heist at 10p
Comedy Central: South Park at 10p and Mind of Mencia at 1030p

WE: Women’s Entertainment‘s new original series John Edward Cross Country, premiered last Friday at 10p, and was the highest-rated original series premiere ever on WE with 672, 000 total viewers.

Upfronts 2006: LIFETIME
Lifetime presented a lineup of its original shows, movies, and development slate on Tuesday morning in New York City.
The original series premieres include:
- Lovespring, coming in June, an improvisational half-hour comedy about a matchmaking agency marketed to customers as an elite Beverly Hills company, despite its location in Tarzana, California (Big Cattle Productions, distributed by Lionsgate);
- Angela’s Eyes, coming in July from the producers of the movie Crash, is an hour-long drama about an FBI agent in her twenties who instinctively knows when people are lying (The Cleary Company and Bull’s Eyes Entertainment produce in association with NBC Universal Television Studio);
- Reality series Paws will show viewers the inner workings of a Hollywood pet agency (Kevin Dill and Mechelle Collins EP for Intuitive Entertainment); and,
- Off net series Medium joins the Lifetime schedule this Sunday at 11p.
The development slate includes numerous scripted and non-scripted projects. For instance:

- The Funeral Planner from Lynn Isenberg’s novel about protagonist Madison Banks, who launches a new business and puts the party back in funerals;
- Alessandra, an hour-long talk show hosted by therapist Alessandra Rampollo, who explores every-day relationship issues, along with celebrity interviews (produced by Promofilm); and
- Sworn Enemies, a look at what happens when two women – enemies in high school – are reunited and forced into friendship over a weekend (produced by Kaufman Films).
Lifetime Original Movies announced three premieres this summer:
- The Gwen Araujo Story, premiering in June, starring Mercedes Ruehl and J.D. Pardo;
- Not Like Everyone Else premieres in July and stars Alia Shawkat and Ileanna Douglas; and,
- Fantasia, coming in July, a bio-pic of American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino.
And finally, Lifetime Movie Network will offer a new monthly showcase of original movies in August, along with a new website, LMN.tv, which features sneak peaks from more than 100 movies, a viewer movie rating system, and an enhanced TV schedule equipped with email alerts.

The History Channel presents This Day in History:
1974: The Equal Rights Amendment is passed in the US Senate and sent to the states for ratification. First proposed by the National Women’s Party in 1923, the amendment prohibiting any discrimination based on sex went on to be ratified by thirty-one states within the year but failed to achieve the necessary thirty-eight needed to make it the 27th Amendment.
