Former The Bachelor star Emily Maynard will become ABC’s next The Bachelorette when the reality series opens a new eighth cycle on May 14. The show is doing something a bit different for this new upcoming season by moving production to Maynard’s hometown of Charlotte, NC to accommodate her life as a single mom.
A third season of ABC’s The Bachelor Pad has been ordered by the network, reports EW. The Bachelor Pad will be back on ABC this summer. The second season of the series averaged 7.10 million viewers.
HISTORY kicks off a new 10-part series SOLD! April 11 with back-to-back episodes at 9p and 930p. SOLD! follows master auctioneer, Rick Bryant and owner of Bryant Auction located in the Missouri Ozarks who is sought out by people in the market to sell rare collectibles and one-of-a-kind items. SOLD! is produced by Evident Entertainment for HISTORY.
A new real-life series on A&E Network features the Brooklyn business Rambug Pest Control and its owner Robbie “Rambug” when Rambug premieres April 28 at 10p. The Rambug Pest Control team is led by Robbie and managed by his older brother Ralph though they both ultimately answer to their Italian mother Mimi. Rambug is produced by Michael Levitt Productions for A&E.
Crime-fighting series America’s Most Wanted received an order for 20 more episodes from Lifetime Networks. America’s Most Wanted featuring John Walsh airs weekly on Lifetime Fridays at 9p and is produced by Walsh Productions and is distributed by Twentieth Television, Inc.
New episodes of Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids debuts on TLC beginning April 13 at 9p. The series goes behind-the-scenes at the bridesmaid’s salon at Bridals by Lori in Atlanta. Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids is produced by NorthSouth Productions for TLC.
Halogen TV will now premiere its new series Roadworthy: The Invisible Children Tour on April 15 at 9p. The 10-part series, produced by Halogen TV, documents the stories of Ugandan children who have been exploited and forced into combat as child soldiers.
The second season of Finding Bigfoot on Animal Planet averaged more than 1.3 million total viewers and the two finales on Sunday each brought in 1.6 million total viewers. Animal Planet recently ordered additional episodes of Finding Bigfoot which will air later this year with two shot internationally. Finding Bigfoot is produced by Ping Pong Productions.
FX’s series premiere of The Ultimate Fighter Live last Friday at 9p attracted 1.28 million total viewers; 953,000 with A18-49; and 538,000 with A18-34.
HBO’s original film Game Change about the 2008 presidential bid of Sen. John McCain tallied 2.1 million viewers for its premiere over the weekend, making it the network’s most-watched original film in close to eight years. Totaling its four weekend airings, Game Change drew a gross audience of 3.6 million viewers.

Even before its theatrical release on March 23, ABC Family has acquired the rights to the first film in The Hunger Games franchise from Lionsgate Entertainment. The film will be available to ABC Family 30 months from the release making it an estimated fall 2014 premiere. The deal may also include the film sequel, Catching Fire which is slated for a November 22, 2013 theatrical release.
Beyond Distribution is now representing the new series World’s Weirdest Restaurants from Paperny Entertainment. The series with 13 half-hour episodes will premiere on Food Network Canada April 4 and Beyond is launching the series at MIPTV next month.
HISTORY approved production for a full season of its first scripted drama series, Vikings set to chronicle the ferocious world of the Norsemen who raided, traded and explored during medieval times. MGM Studios, Inc. brought the historical series to HISTORY. Vikings is slated to premiere in 2013 with production based in Ireland and Northern Europe. Shaw Media is the series’ broadcast partner in Canada, airing the program on HISTORY Television in Canada. Vikings is an international Irish/Canadian co-production between World 2000 and Take 5 Productions. In addition to HISTORY ordering the series to broadcast domestically, MGM will distribute the series outside of Ireland and Canada. Michael Hirst (The Tudors, the film Elizabeth) created and is writing Vikings and will serve as EP along with Morgan O’Sullivan of World 2000, John Weber of Take 5 Productions, Sherry Marsh and Alan Gasmer.
Lionsgate formed a partnership with global financier and philanthropist Frank Giustra, founder of Lionsgate and its Chairman for six years, and his Thunderbird Films television production, distribution and financing company involving a television deal to produce programming for broadcast and cable networks as part of the ongoing diversification of Lionsgate’s television business. The new venture between Lionsgate and Giustra’s Thunderbird Films is called Sea To Sky Entertainment and will focus on a broad range of scripted programming for mainstream commercial audiences in the US and Canada. Lionsgate and Thunderbird will jointly oversee Sea To Sky and will also share production and distribution costs for any series picked up by television networks. Sea To Sky to date has several projects on the docket including the development and production deal with reality producer/documentary filmmaker R.J. Cutler. Sea To Sky also optioned the rights to the upcoming book An Uncommon Youth and will develop a one-hour drama from author Dennis Lehane.
Discovery Channel says it has severed its relationship with Bear Grylls, host of Man vs. Wild and has canceled all current productions with the adventurer.
Producers of Spartacus: Vengeance and its network Starz has cast Australian television actor Todd Lasance to play a young Julius Caesar and British television actor Simon Merrells to portray wealthy Roman general Marcus Crassus.
Two more actors have joined ABC’s drama pilot Devious Maids from Marc Cherry: Mariana Klaveno (True Blood) and Grant Show (Melrose Place). Show will play a successful soap star Spence Davis while Klaveno will play his wife, a beautiful, selfish actress.
ABC’s pilot Scruples based on the novel by Judith Krantz has added Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) to its cast, per TVLine. Murray will play a fashion photographer-turned-creative director named Spider.
Tempestt Bledsoe, the former child star on The Cosby Show will be back on NBC in the Untitled Jimmy Fallon Project, reports TVLine. The plot is about three 30-something guys (played by Anthony Anderson, Jesse Bradford and Zach Cregger) who enjoy parenting even though they haven’t grown up themselves. Bledsoe will play the wife of Anderson’s character.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis: A three-way tie for #1 happened between ABC, CBS and Univision with each delivering a 0.9/3 A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. In a tightly packed 8p hour, Univision prevailed with its weekly Sabado Gigante at 0.8/3 followed closely by ABC’s Wipeout repeat at 0.7/2. During 9p, ABC’s My Extreme Affliction and Univision’s Sabado Gigante shared the top spot at 1.0/3 each and CBS’ Crimetime Saturday was a step behind at 0.9/3 in third place. Then at 10p, CBS did best with 48 Hours Mystery at 1.2/4 trailed by ABC’s My Extreme Affliction at 1.1/3.

CBS opened the night at #1 during 7p with 60 Minutes at 1.7/6 and FOX’s comedies The Simpsons (a repeat) and The Cleveland Show came next at an average of 1.5/5. At 9p, ABC’s Once Upon a Time and CBS’ The Amazing Race tied for the top berth at 2.9/8 each and more FOX comedies, The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers at an average of 2.1/6 placed third. ABC’s Desperate Housewives found its way to #1 at 9p with a 2.6/6 and the final set of animated comedies on FOX, Family Guy and American Dad came next at an average of 2.5/6. Monday A18-49 Analysis: NBC took a slight downturn in the ratings Monday though stayed on top with 4.2/11 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, NBC’s The Voice led at 5.0/14 and the season finale of ABC’s The Bachelor was next at 2.8/8. NBC saw an uptick in the ratings during 9p with more from The Voice at 5.5/14 and ABC’s The Bachelor remained steady in second place at 3.1/8. Also this hour, Univision debuted Abismo de Pasion at 1.8/5, ranking fourth. The networks flip-flopped at 10p as ABC finished the night at #1 with ABC’s The Bachelor: After the Final Rose special at 3.3/8 and NBC moved into second place with Smash at 2.4/6.

Lifetime Networks appointed Michele M. Moore as SVP/Publicity where she will be part of Lifetime Networks President/GM Nancy Dubuc’s senior team and further will manage strategic communications and publicity efforts for Lifetime Networks encompassing Lifetime, LMN and Lifetime Real Women. Based in Los Angeles, Michele will work closely with Les Eisner, Lifetime’s VP/Corporate Communications and Publicity. Prior to this new position, Michele was with Temple University where she was the CMO.
Eric Emshoff was upped to Director/Central Region with Outcast Network, the gas station television network. Eric joins from Starcom Worldwide in Chicago. In his new role, Eric will manage the central region along with VP Adam Rubin in the Chicago office.
