2010 UPFRONT UPDATE: As of yesterday, CBS declared it has finished its upfront sales for the 2010-2011 season. CBS’ total ad sales could total between $2.4 billion and $2.6 billion with a reportedly rate increase of +9% to +10%. During last year’s upfront, CBS sold approximately 65% of its inventory to the tune of $2.13 billion and $2.25 billion. ABC and NBC are close to being done with their upfront sales with ABC potentially securing price hikes of +8% to +9% and NBC getting at least a +7% bump. Last Sunday, the 2010 MTV Movie Awards aired on MTV, MTV2 and VH1 and had a total reach of 16.4 million viewers across the three networks, a +2% increase over the previous year. The awards special also averaged a 5.7 rating among female teens on MTV and averaged a 4.1 P12-34 rating on MTV. Following the MTV Movie Awards, MTV premiered the original comedy series The Hard Times of RJ Berger which averaged a 2.6 P12-34 rating and more than 2.6 million total viewers. HISTORY had consecutive nights of premieres as season #4 of Ice Road Truckers debuted Sunday at 9p with 2.4 million total viewers; 1.4 million A25-54 viewers and 1.3 million A18-49 viewers. Following on Sunday at 10p, HISTORY launched the network’s first competition series, Top Shot drawing in 2.1 million total viewers; 1.3 million A25-54; and 1.1 million A18-49. Then on Monday, HISTORY opened a 2nd new season of American Pickers at 9p with 4.1 million total viewers (a +32% increase over the first season premiere) as well as 1.9 million A25-54 viewers and 1.7 million A18-49 viewers. Directly after from 10-1030p, the network premiered the 3rd season of Pawn Stars with 5.3 million total viewers (a +83% increase in total viewers compared to the season two premiere); 2.9 million A25-54; and 2.8 million A18-49 viewers. Recent series premieres and season debuts on TLC have delivered more than 1.2 million total viewers each including Cake Boss with 2.4 million; The Little Couple with 1.5 million; Mall Cops: Mall of America with 1.5 million; Police Women of Memphis with 1.3 million; and Toddlers & Tiaras with 1.2 million. Also on TLC, Sunday’s special Kate Plus 8: 6th Birthday Surprise attracted 3.4 million total viewers followed by Kate Plus 8: Inside Kate’s World with 3.0 million total viewers. Food Network’s sixth season return of competition series The Next Food Network Star on Sunday became the highest-rated, most-watched season premiere in the series’ history. The two-hour opening episode drew in an average of 2.5 million total viewers and 1.3 million A25-54 viewers. The episode also clocked a 1.2 rating among A25-54, a 26% increase compared to the season five premiere. Turner Sports kicked off its TNT’s Summer Series of Sprint Cup NASCAR races on Sunday in Pocono by tallying more than 5.3 million total viewers. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series on TNT will resume from Michigan International Speedway this Sunday starting at 1p. With June comes weddings and WE tv’s annual Wedding Week, chock full of wedding programs opened Sunday night at 8p with the network’s original special Bridezillas Where Are They Now? earning the status of the WE tv’s best premiere ever among W18-49 (486,000) and W25-54 (462,000). Sunday night was also WE tv’s best night in primetime ever with an average of 408,000 W18-49 viewers and 822,000 total viewers. Oxygen’s Dance Your Ass Off second season premiere Monday night at 11p with host Mel B earned double-digit increases among several key demos including A18-49 (+59%), W18-49 (+57%) and total viewers (+35%). Beginning next Monday, Dance Your Ass Off will move to its regular time period of 10p. Also on Monday, ABC Family premiered the third season of The Secret Life of the American Teenager at 8p with 1.3 million and a 1.9 rating among W18-49; 949,000 and a 2.8 rating with W18-34; and 1.2 million and a 1.8 rating among A18-34. John Stamos has been talking to the producers of FOX’s Glee to become a recurring cast member next season. Stamos will play the role of Emma’s dentist reports E! Online. Stamos made his debut on the musical series during the show’s first season finale episode last night. BBC America is co-producing a new six-part thriller series with BBC titled Luther starring Idris Elba (HBO’s The Wire). The series, with six one-hour episodes, takes a bold new approach to the crime genre with Elba also working as Associate Producer on the project. On Luther, Elba will play John Luther, a brilliantly smart though impulsive murder detective whose confidante is also his arch-enemy, Alice (Ruth Wilson), a beautiful multiple murderess who evades Luther early on and throughout they become locked in a battle of wits. Luther is created and written by suspense novelist, Neil Cross, who was also one of the lead writers on MI-5. The series, also distributed by BBC Worldwide, will premiere on BBC America later this year. ~ RATINGS ~

Tom Cosgrove was appointed President/GM of the new joint 24/7 3D television network venture from Sony Corporation, Discovery Communications and IMAX Corporation. Tom will oversee all business and creative functions for the upcoming network that will feature high-quality premium programming genres such as natural history, space, exploration, adventure, engineering, science and technology and motion pictures from Discovery, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., IMAX and other third party providers. Tom will also be integrally involved with driving consumer adoption of 3D televisions. He will report to the joint venture’s Board of Directors consisting of members from Sony, Discovery and IMAX. Tom previously was EVP/COO for Discovery Channel. Additionally, Rebecca Glashow, SVP/Digital Distribution, Discovery Communications will manage distribution for the new channel and Amy Carney, President/Advertiser Sales, Sony Pictures Television will head advertising and promotion sales while Sony Pictures Television will offer all advertising sales related services for the joint venture. Jim Kenyon takes on the position of VP/Strategic Alliances within the sales and marketing team at Intersport, effective immediately. Jim is charged with developing multi-platform properties for top marketers intent on using sports and entertainment event marketing, sponsorships, brand-integrated television and digital media to grow their business. Most recently, Jim was with Chicago-based Gravitas Marketing. Media Storm hired Carly Miller as Associate Director/Interactive, effective immediately.
