REELZCHANNEL’s first original scripted drama series, True Justice starring Steven Seagal is currently airing on the American Forces Network (AFN) AFN|spectrum channel.  The series began on Tuesday at 9p and new episodes will continue on Tuesdays in the same time period until the finale on August 21.  True Justice is produced by Sojo Productions and Voltage Pictures in association with Steamroller Productions. 

On the heels of premiering the sixth season of On the Case with Paula Zahn, which delivered 947,000 total viewers last Sunday with its opening episode, Investigation Discovery announced it has approved the series for a seventh season.  The seventh season will launch in fourth quarter 2012.  On the Case with Paula Zahn is produced by Scott Sternberg Productions and Weinberger Media for Investigation Discovery.

A third season of drama series Lost Girl has been ordered by Syfy.  The network gave Lost Girl 13 episodes for season three launching in January 2013.  Presently in its second season, Lost Girl is averaging 895,000 A18-49; 930,000 with A25-54; and 1.64 million total viewers, based on available Live +7 data.  Beginning July 20, Lost Girl will move from Mondays at 10p to Fridays at 10p.  Lost Girl was developed by Prodigy Pictures, in association with Shaw Media and Showcase.

Spanish-language lifestyle channel targeting women, Ultilisima premieres several shows this month:  beginning today a new season of Sazon con Lorena opens on the network starring Venezuelan chef Lorena Garcia; on Sunday the network has a new reality show on tap called Aquiles en Houston featuring chef Aquiles Chavez as he creates his own Mexican seafood restaurant in Houston, TX; on June 11 the network launches a new season of design show, Tienda de Diseno highlighting Maggie Hegyi and her team of designers; and on June 24, a new Fox Toma 1 original production, Que piensan los hombres? premieres starring the famous Argentinean actress/model/entrepreneur, Araceli Gonzalez as she interviews actors, athletes, singers, artists and more in each half-hour episode.  Ultilisima is part of Fox International Channels since 2007 and is distributed across Latin America, the US, Canada, Spain and the Balkans.

The season one finale of National Geographic Channel‘s Wicked Tuna on Sunday at 10p, posted a 0.7 rating with A25-54, making it the highest-rated episode of the season.  In addition, 934,000 total viewers watched the concluding episode.  The series, produced by Pilgrim Studios, has been renewed for another season and will return in early 2013.

In honor of the late game show host/actor Richard Dawson, a special tribute is airing on GSN (Game Show Network).  A Richard Dawson marathon consisting of Family Feud and Match Game episodes will air tomorrow from 7p to 11p. 

Veteran television writer, Esther O. Mitchell died on May 30 just one day before her 92nd birthday.  Ms. Mitchell, in tandem with her late husband and writing partner, Bob Mitchell wrote for television shows in the 1960s and 1970s such as Perry Mason, Combat, Land of the Giants, Canon, S.W.A.T., Charlie’s Angels and ChiPs.  Ms. Mitchell was also a longtime member of the WGA.

National music television network, Fuse, part of The Madison Square Garden Company has ordered three new original series slated to premiere this year or in early 2013:

  • Off Beat is a weekly half-hour look at humorous and over-the-top music-themed online videos and viewer-created clips.  Comedian Mike E. Winfield is the host.  Production is underway on 12 episodes set to debut this summer. Off Beat is produced by FishBowl Worldwide Media. 
  • Warped Roadies offers a behind-the-scenes look at the Vans Warped Tour while it travels cross-country with more than 60 bands.  Ten episodes will premiere this fall produced by Magilla Entertainment.
  • G-Life will have 8 episodes ready to roll out in 2013 following an Italian-American rapper, G-Fella and his outrageous family as they attempt to launch a record label called Tracketerring Records.  This reality series is produced by Sweatshop Media.  

Spike TV gave a nod to a new competition series titled Last Family on Earth from Pilgrim Studios.  The premise of the show will have families battling for a spot in an underground bunker if an apocalypse occurs.  Spike ordered six one-hour episodes to premiere in the fall.  A host for the show will be announced this summer.  Pilgrim Studios’ Craig Piligian will serve as EP.

NBC has found its Herman Munster for its upcoming series Mockingbird Lane, the network’s Munsters remake from Bryan Fuller.  Jerry O’Connell landed the starring role as the family’s patriarch in Fuller’s re-imagining of the classic TV series.  Eddie Izzard also stars in Mockingbird Lane as the vampire Grandpa. 

Casting Call: O’Connor Casting Company is seeking single Americans of Norwegian descent to appear in the second season of the hit Norwegian reality dating series Sons of Norway.  The show is described as a nice, feel good show featuring American single men and women as they date singles from Norway.  Applicants must live in San Francisco or Seattle areas.  The series will be shot in America and Norway.  Application deadline is July 8, 2012.  More information can be found at:


Programming change: The premiere of Builder Boss will now air June 28 at 10p on HGTV Canada.  The series featuring master contractor Jim Caruk will open with back-to-back episodes.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis:  NBC skated to a win Saturday at 1.1/4 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  The NHL Stanley Cup Final #2 on NBC won at 8p with an 0.8/4 followed by the first of three encore episodes of Secret Millionaire on ABC at 0.7/3.  NBC’s NHL Stanley Cup Final #2 scored a #1 during 9p at 1.0/4 while ABC’s second Secret Millionaire repeat and FOX’s Saturday Baseball tied for #2 at 0.9/3 each.  NBC closed the night a winner with more of the NHL Stanley Cup Final at 1.2/4 and CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery rerun was a close second at 1.1/4.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis:  NBC had the winning lineup Sunday at 1.6/5 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  CBS opened the night a winner at 7p with 60 Minutes in rerun at 1.4/5 and next in line was ABC’s America’s Funniest Home Videos rebroadcast at 1.2/4.  NBC crossed the pond to bring home a winner at 8p with its Adele Live in London special at 1.7/5 followed rather closely by the season premiere of Secret Millionaire on ABC at 1.5/5.  At 9p, a tie for #1 occurred between FOX with the average of its repeated animated comedies Family Guy and American Dad and Univision’s premiere of Pequenos Gigantes 2 at 1.7/5 each with NBC’s Miss USA 2012 in a close third spot at 1.7/4 and ranking fourth was the season debut of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition at 1.4/4.  During the 10p hour, the Miss USA 2012 pageant on NBC moved into first place at 2.0/5 and the second hour of ABC’s EM: Weight Loss Edition premiere episode was next at 1.6/4.

Monday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX took the lead Monday by delivering a 2.3/7 with the A18-49 viewers, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.   NBC won at 8p with America’s Got Talent at 3.3/10 and the season opener of Hell’s Kitchen on FOX came next at 2.4/7.  Competition was tight during 9p with FOX’s new season launch of MasterChef winning by a skosh at 2.3/6 while ABC’s The Bachelorette and NBC’s American Ninja Warrior both sharing #2 at 2.2/6 apiece.  Univision broke into the top spot during 10p with La Que No Podia Amar at 1.7/5 and CBS’ Hawaii Five-O repeat was next at 1.2/3.

Effective this July, NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution appointed Valerie Schaer as EVP/Creative Affairs.  Valerie will have oversight for the development of original programming for NBCU Domestic Television Distribution and will additionally manage the unit’s current first-run programming including the new fall daytime programs Steve Harvey and Trisha Goddard.  Based in New York, Valerie will report to Barry Wallach, President, NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution.

Former EVP/Scripted Programming executive at ABC Entertainment Group, Suzanne Patmore Gibbs was tapped by Sony Pictures Television (SPT) as EVP/Drama Development, U.S. Programming and Production.  In her new position, Suzanne will oversee the studio’s development activities for scripted drama programming in the US and she will work with writers and producers on projects for both broadcast and cable.  Suzanne will further manage international co-production projects targeted for the US market. 

Effective immediately, Spanish Broadcasting System Inc., (SBS) named Alex Aleman to the role as SVP/Consolidated Operations.  Alex will report to Albert Rodriguez, COO at SBS.

Francis Kane joined Current TV as SVP/Ad Sales Marketing where he will lead the network’s brand across the advertising community.  Francis will report to Bill Hartnett, EVP/Marketing at Current TV.

Ocean Fine advances to Director/West Coast Mobile and Online Sales at AT&T AdWorks.  Previously, Ocean served as Senior AE with the company where she supervised agency relations with OMD, Saatchi & Saatchi, Conil among others.
