ABC’s one-hour summer drama series Rookie Blue received a fourth season renewal.  On average, Rookie Blue is the #1 series with A18-49 in Thursday’s 10p hour this summer to date.  The fourth season is currently in development and will begin production in Toronto later this summer.  Rookie Blue is produced by ICF Film Inc. and Entertainment One.  ABC and Global Television jointly made the renewal announcement yesterday.

New docu-series Gallery Girls debuts on Bravo beginning August 13 at 10p.  The series follows the lives of seven ambitious young women in New York City who immerse themselves in the art world while vying for their dream jobs.  Gallery Girls is from Magical Elves.

A fourth season is on tap for truTV’s Full Throttle Saloon, set in Sturgis, SD at the “World’s Largest Biker Bar” owned by Michael Ballard.  The series will be back on truTV this winter with a dozen new episodes.  Full Throttle Saloonis executive produced by Arthur Smith, Kent Weedand Frank Sinton of A. Smith & Co. Productions; Jesse James Dupree of Mighty Loud Entertainment;and Arnold Rifkinof Cheyenne Enterprises.

Beginning July 23 for the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London, E! is sending E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic to head entertainment and pop culture news coverage for the network along with Catt Sadler, Ross Mathews, Robbie Laughlin and Olympic Gold medalist Bruce Jenner.  E!’s Senior News Correspondent and former Londoner, Melanie Bromley will further cover fashion, party and trend news throughout London.  In addition to E!’s on-air coverage, E! News will produce a daily webcast, LIVE from E! that will run on E! Online with interviews with athletes, reporters and celebrities.

George Randolph Hearst, the grandson of media giant William Randolph Hearst died Monday at the age of 84.  Mr. Hearst was the Chairman of Hearst Corp., a privately-held media conglomerate that goes back more than 125 years when Mr. Hearst’s grandfather took control of the San Francisco Examiner.  Mr. Hearst was a director of the company for more than 50 years following his uncle, Randolph A. Hearst as Board Chairman in 1996.  Hearst Corp. presently owns 29 television stations and has shares in a number of cable networks.  The company additionally owns 15 daily newspapers including the Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express-News and San Francisco Chronicle.  The company further owns several magazines including Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar and Cosmopolitan.  Mr. Hearst also served as President of The Hearst Foundation and a Director of the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.  He is survived by his wife, Susan Hearst; sons, George R. Hearst III, publisher of the Albany Times Union in New York; two other children, Stephen T. Hearst and Erin Hearst Knudsen; his twin sister, Phoebe Hearst Cooke; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Weekly syndicated television program Today’s Homeowner with Danny Lipford from Danny Lipford Media has added WPSJ-TV in Cedar Brook, NJ to its list of syndication partners.  The show, going into its 15th season, will air during weekends beginning this fall on WPSJ-TV.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

BBC America is working with Bell Media’s SPACE on the new original sci-fi series Orphan Black.  The one-hour 10-episode series is from independent producer, Temple Street Productions and was co-created by Graeme Manson (Flashpoint) and John Fawcett (Spartacus).  Orphan Black will debut in the US as part of BBC America’s Supernatural Saturdays programming block.  The plot centers on a street savvy chameleon that makes the discovery she is a clone.  Manson is serving as writer and Fawcett will direct.  Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier will serve as EPs for Temple Street Productions.  Production commences this fall in Toronto.  BBC Worldwide will distribute Orphan Black internationally.

Television and Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth will next appear on CBS’ The Good Wife in a recurring role as a top-notch political reporter who wants to know more about the Florrick campaign and marriage.  Chenoweth will make her first appearance on the series with the season premiere in September.   The Good Wife airs Sundays at 9p on CBS.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX hit a homerun Saturday scoring a 1.0/4 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, Baseball on FOX and US Olympics Trials on NBC tied for #1 at 1.0/4 each while a three-way tie occurred for #3 among ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition repeat, programming on Telemundo including Cine de Impacto II and Sabado Gigante on Univision at 0.4/2 apiece.  FOX went ahead a few paces during 9p to win with more Baseball at 1.2/5 followed by NBC’s US Olympics Trials and Off Their Rockers encore at an average of 0.9/4.  FOX topped again at 10p with another hour of Baseball at 1.2/5 and CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery rerun was next at 1.0/4

Sunday A18-49 Analysis:
  NBC and Univision shared the top spot Sunday with each delivering a 1.2/4 A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  NBC’s US Olympic Trials finished first at 7p with a 1.2/4 and ABC’s America’s Funniest Home Videos repeat was next at 1.0/4 and CBS’ 60 Minutes encore was a close third at 1.0/3.  At 8p, NBC’s Dateline and Univision’s Pequenos Gigantes 2 tied for #1 at 1.2/4 each and ABC’s Secret Millionaire repeat was next at 1.1/3.  Univision was the solo winner during 9p with more Pequenos Gigantes 2 at 1.6/4 and NBC slid to #2 with an America’s Got Talent rebroadcast at 1.2/3.  Univision was in charge during the 10p hour with Pequenos Gigantes 2 and Sal y Pimienta at an average of 1.4/4 and a second helping of America’s Got Talent rerun on NBC followed at 1.2/4.

  FOX and NBC both topped with the A18-49 viewers Monday at 2.3/7 each, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  FOX sizzled in first place at 8p with Hell’s Kitchen at 2.4/8 while ABC’s The Bachelorette wooed viewers in second place at 2.2/7.  NBC took over at 9p with America’s Got Talent at 3.0/8 and ABC’s The Bachelorette remained planted at #2 with a 2.4/7.  Then at 10p, NBC’s American Ninja Warrior and Univision’s La Que No Podia Amar each posted a 1.9/5 tying for first place followed by another two-way tie for third place between ABC’s The Glass House and CBS’ Hawaii Five-O repeat at 1.1/3 apiece.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

The Cinema Advertising Council (CAC), a national non-profit trade association serving cinema advertising sellers, the theatrical exhibition community and the advertising community has appointed Suzanne La Forgia to its Board of Directors.  Suzanne is SVP/National and Regional Sales with Screenvision.  Additionally, Jerry Rakfeldt has been elected to the CAC Board of Directors by the association’s Level II members.  Jerry serves as President of Spotlight Cinema Networks. 

Online independently-owned video network, Blip announced Jason Rapp is joining the company’s Board of Directors and Doug Ferguson will become Head/Product and Creative.  Jason is presently President and member of the Board of Directors of Mahalo, Inc.  Doug previously was the GM/Digital at Adweek.  In his new role, Doug will report to Blip CEO Kelly Day.

Bryson Koehler was named CIO with The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) where he will be in charge for setting the strategic vision, financial planning, technical operations, direction and implementation of strategic technology efforts for the company.  Prior to this appointment, Bryson was with private equity firm, Exigen Capital where he was an Operating Partner.  Based in TWCC’s corporate headquarters in Atlanta, Bryson will report to Chris Walters, COO, TWCC. 

Scripps Networks Interactive has promoted six executives in its Home Category Marketing and Creative services group which provide promotional support for HGTV and DIY NetworkAnne Wilkerson becomes Production Manager, HGTV; Lesley Schoch advances to Writer/Producer, DIY Network; Todd Troop is now Creative Director/Design, HGTV; Georgelle Cole was elevated to Executive Producer at both HGTV and DIY Network; Santos Lopez was also promoted to Executive Producer, HGTV and DIY Network; and Peter Moore was upped to VP/Creative Projects, Home Category.
