Super Bowl XLVI already getting press as NBC announced it will air an hour-long episode of The Voice following the network’s live telecast of the event on February 5. NBC has not said if The Voice’s episode will be the season premiere.
FOX is taking a cue from PBS by hiring twin antique-dealer brothers Leigh and Leslie Keno, famous from PBS’ long-running Antiques Roadshow, to host the network’s new reality series, Buried Treasure. The Keno twins will travel across America searching for hidden treasure in people’s homes. If they find something of value they will give the family a chance to sell the item. At the end of each episode, viewers will find out if the item sold and for how much. ITV Studios America is on board to produce the show that may roll out later this summer.
At its Annual Meeting for member stations in Orlando, PBS executives revealed starting this fall it will add more commercials within its shows. Instead of airing commercial or sponsor breaks every 50 minutes as it does currently, PBS will air commercial breaks every 15 minutes. Two of PBS’ long-running programs, Nature and Nova will begin airing corporate and foundation sponsor ads as well as promotional messages and branding every 15 minutes. Then in January, PBS will add the more frequent commercial breaks to Antiques Roadshow. This new move will mean producers will have to revamp their shows to accommodate more commercial breaks.
Also at PBS’ Annual Meeting, Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton was on hand to unveil the series’ fall season.
- Masterpiece Contemporary will feature two new films: the spy thriller Page Eight starring Bill Nighy, Rachel Weisz, Michael Gambon, Judy Davis and Ralph Fiennes, a co-production of Carnival/MASTERPIECE; and the film The Song of Lunch based on Christopher Reid’s narrative poem starring Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson and a co-production of the BBC and MASTERPIECE.
- Masterpiece Mystery! welcomes back this fall Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox starring in four new episodes of Inspector Lewis, Series IV airing September 4, 18 and 25 and October 9 at 9p (check local listings). Inspector Lewis, Series IV is a co-production of ITV Studios and MASTERPIECE.
