BermanBraun, the production company founded by former broadcast chiefs Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun, has signed a multi-year agreement with MGM. As part of the exclusive pact,BermanBraun will look to create and develop scripted and unscripted programming for cable and broadcast. Also included is a first-look deal on all theatrical projects that BermanBraunis developing. 

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

FOX Broadcasting Company has announced that it will widen the availability of content developed by WIGS, the number one channel for scripted drama on YouTube, to include the free, ad-supported Hulu.com and Hulu Plus subscription service. Beginning Tuesday, June 18, WIGS’ most popular drama, Blue, which stars Julia Stiles and recently surpassed 20 million views, will be offered to Hulu viewers in longer-form, TV-length episodes. Additional popular series, including Lauren and Jan, will become available on Hulu and Hulu Plus over the coming weeks.

Following the exciting and emotional finale of Newlyweds: The First Year on Monday, June 24 at 10p, Bravo Media raises a glass to the show’s couples with the special Watch What Happens Live at 11p. For the first time, the cast unites to recap the ups and downs of their documented first year of marriage and reflect on their experiences.

National music television network Fuse makes its foray into scripted programming with The Hustle on Wednesday, June 19 at 11p. The six-episode, half-hour dramedy sheds light on the challenges aspiring artists face trying to break into the hip hop world. The new series comes from Generate, an Alloy Digital-owned production and talent management company.

Nat Geo Wild reels in a new season of Monster Fish on Friday, July 5 at 10p. From 600-pound goldfish and car-sized catfish to mysterious river sharks, fish biologist Zeb Hogan continues his quest to find and protect the world’s freshwater giants.

Behind Hollywood’s most successful hits there’s always The Real Story. Separating fact from fiction and real life from reel life, the Smithsonian Channel series launches its fifth season on Sunday, June 30 at 8p. Things kick off with an exploration of the Star Trek film and TV franchise. 

Viewers nationwide can sample the series premiere of the anticipated Showtime drama Ray Donovan, starring Liev Schreiber in his first lead television role as LA’s best professional fixer. The episode can be accessed across multiple platforms including the Showtime website http://s.sho.com/RayDonovan101, on YouTube http://youtu.be/UCjXhhJ7avk, via select television providers’ free On Demand channels and websites, on Showtime on Demand and Showtime Anytime. The series debuts on Showtime  on Sunday, June 30 at 10p.

ReelzChannel‘s police procedural series King premieres on Friday, July 5 at 10p. The show follows homicide detective Jessica King, a charismatic and unconventional cop whose unique eye for detail turns cases around.

The Kitchen Musical, the genre-busting TV show that blends food, wine, music and dance, is now on Myx TV‘s menu. The series debuts on Monday, June 24 at 8p. Produced in Singapore, the show has already become an international phenom, hitting 18 Asian countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

Three contestants battle in a fast-paced quiz competition against The Beast, an all-knowing opponent, in the new GSN game show The Chase. Hosted by Brooke Burns, the show debuts on Tuesday, August 6 at 9p.

Award-winning Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible, The Orphanage) will helm the first two episodes of the upcoming Showtime drama Penny Dreadful. The psychosexual horror series, which features some of literature’s most iconic figures, will begin production in London this fall.

Wilfred‘s Randall Einhorn has been tapped to direct the FX comedy pilot Death Pact, starring Tracy Morgan. Einhorn inked an overall deal with FX Productions in November. He has also directed and produced episodes of the network’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Great American Country has a pair of music specials premiering this week. Kenny Chesney: No Shoes Nation, airing Wednesday, June 19 at 10p, follows the singer to Ft. Lauderdale, Key West, Tampa, Jacksonville, St. John and Barbados as he kicks off his concert tour. Songtellers with Darius Rucker: The Story of True Believers, airing Thursday, June 20 at 10p, features Rucker and each of the co-writers from his just-released LP, True Believers, performing their collaborations and sharing inside stories.

Save the date! The annual Cynopsis: Sports Business Summit is set to take place on Aug. 14 in NY, and will feature some of the biggest names in sports today. It’s never too early to think about Christmas. NBC has ordered an animated holiday comedy from The Simpsons writer/executive producer Mike Reiss. Reiss will adapt his children’s book How Murray Saved Christmas for a December 2014 special.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

What America Thinks with Scott Rasmussen has picked up over 60 stations following the cancellation of the half-hour political weekly The Chris Matthews Show. New major markets include St. Louis, Portland, Nashville, Kansas City, Grand Rapids, Oklahoma City and Birmingham, according to Telco Productions President Alex Paen, syndicator of the Rasmussen weekly. The new stations will start airing What America Thinks the week after the Matthews shows ends its run on July 21, with a dozen more markets, including Washington, D.C., coming on board in September.

 

~ CASTING NEWS ~

FX has cast John Hurt in The Strain, the pilot based on the best-selling vampire novel trilogy from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and author Chuck Hogan. Hurt will portray Professor Abraham Setrakian, a holocaust survivor who immigrated to the United States after World War II and now runs a pawn shop in Spanish Harlem.

Liv Tyler has landed the co-starring role opposite Justin Theroux in the HBO drama The Leftovers. She’ll portray Meg, a young woman about to be married who needs an escape.

At 8p, FOX’s Saturday Baseball and Univision’s Sabado Gigante tied for the top spot at 0.5/2. ABC’s Zero Hour was #2 at 0.4/2. FOX’s Saturday Baseball led at 9p at 0.6/3, followed by Univision’s  Sabado Gigante at 0.6/2. At 10p, Univision’s Sabado Gigante was back on top at 0.7/3. Ben Gerst has been named Senior Vice President of Platform Development at FOX Sports Digital, a newly created position. Gerst, formerly Executive Director of Platform Technologies at the New York Times, will play a pivotal role in the redesign and relaunch of FOXSports.com, which will be the digital hub for FOX Sports 1, America’s new sports network launching August 17.

Ryan O’Hara has joined The Madison Square Garden Company as President of Content, Distribution and Sales. O’Hara will be responsible for setting and overseeing a long-term vision, which maximizes the growth of MSG Media and the company’s corporate technology and marketing partnerships divisions, with the goal of achieving operational excellence and optimal integration of related functions. Stage 29 Productions has named Marc Grossmann as Senior Publicist for its nationally syndicated series The Doctors, effective immediately. A media relations expert whose experience includes daytime, primetime, syndication, broadcast and cable, Grossman last served as Senior Publicist on The Jeff Probst Show.

Telemundo Las Vegas has appointed Herb Anderson to its local sales team as an Account Manager. Anderson last served as Regional Sales/Marketing Manager at Revex, an export marketing and sales services firm. In his new position, he will play a key role in offering solutions, that combined with the station’s ratings gains, will successfully serve the needs of advertisers
