Cynopsis

06/18/08

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, June 18, 2008, and this is your first early morning briefing.

ESPN coverage of the USGA’s U.S. Open playoff on Monday from 12n-2p between Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate was the most viewed golf telecast in cable TV history with a 4.2 HH Rtg and 4.7 million viewers.  The previous record had been the 2008 Master Golf Tournament last April which delivered 3.0 HH rtg, also on ESPN.  At 2pm the coverage moved to NBC where it continued thru the rest of the 18 hole playoff, plus one sudden death hole, ending at 4:45pm and drawing a 7.6/20 HH overnight rating.  Before this, the highest rated Monday golf coverage was the 1978 Phoenix Open which drew a 7.7/20 HH rtg, won by Miller Barber by one stroke over Jerry Pate and Lee Trevino.  Tiger Woods was just three years old then, and already playing golf.

Jimmy Kimmel Live debuted on ABC in 2003 and is produced by Jackhole Industries and ABC Studios.
