~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

More deadly battle match-ups are front and center as a third season of Deadliest Warrior kicks off on Spike TV starting July 20 at 10p.  During ten one-hour episodes, the new season pits legendary, historic fighters against each other to see who might prevail.  In the season opener, George Washington goes head-to-head with Napoleon Bonaparte and subsequent episodes include Joan of Arc v. William the Conqueror; Genghis Khan battles Hannibal; and Zombies fighting Vampires.  Navy SEAL Richard “Mack” Machowicz joins the series as co-host offering his warrior’s perspective on weapons and battle strategy.  The series will additionally sport several new segments such as a new Armory Segment to Chalk Talk where battle strategies are drawn out on touch tables.  Spike.com continues to get into the Deadliest Warrior action with its web show Deadliest Warrior  The Aftermath, an online round table discussion following each on-air episode.  Deadliest Warrior is produced by 44 Blue Productions, Inc.

Tuesdays are filled with fashion on Bravo as the network presents back-to-back fashion series starting August 2.  The lineup begins with The Rachel Zoe Project premiering a fourth season at 9p followed by two new series, Fashion Hunters at 10p spotlighting the Second Time Around consignment shop in New York City and its staff, then Mad Fashion at 1030p featuring outrageous designer Chris March.  All three series are produced for Bravo; The Rachel Zoe Project is produced by Original Media; Fashion Hunters is from Leftfield Pictures; and Mad Fashion is from Matt Westmore Media and No Regrets Entertainment. 

Summer series, History Detectives premieres a new ninth season on PBS beginning June 21 at 8p.  The series also sports a newly re-launched website with interactive and exclusive content for fans to use via their mobile devices, online and through social networking apps.  History Detectives airs on Tuesday nights during the summer on PBS (check local listings).

Comedy Central handed Tosh.0 a fourth season order featuring Daniel Tosh as he dishes on a variety of videos found online.  Tosh.0 was granted a 26-episode order for its fourth season set to premiere in January 2012.  The series is presently in its third season airing on Tuesdays at 10p. 

Animated comedy series Ugly Americans is back on Comedy Central’s lineup this summer with ten 30m episodes starting June 30 at 1030p.  In its second season, Ugly Americans follows new episodes of Futurama to form a one-hour “Thurs-Dimension” animation block on the network.  During the upcoming new season, guest voices include Christine Baranski, Rob Riggle, Todd Barry and Jenny Slate.

In a statement released yesterday, McGraw-Hill said it is actively pursuing “the divestiture of its Broadcasting Group” which includes four television stations that generated revenues of nearly $100 million in 2010.  The stations include ABC affiliates KMGH/Denver; KGTV/San Diego; KERO/Bakersfield; and WRTV/Indianapolis as well as Azteca America affiliates in Denver, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, San Diego and Bakersfield.

On Monday this week, CNN aired its first Republican two-hour debate at 8p delivering 3.162 million total viewers and 918,000 among A25-54, based on Nielsen Fast National data.

USA Network’s Covert Affairs and White Collar both premiered new seasons on June 7. Covert Affairs brought in 4.56 million total viewers and 1.61 million among A18-49, while White Collar tallied 3.90 million total viewers and 1.58 million with A18-49.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

FX continues its movie acquisition roll as it picked up the commercial television rights to Paramount’s Super 8 from J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg.  FX will premiere the film in late 2013 or early 2014.  Super 8 joins other recent acquisitions by FX including Disney’s Tron: Legacy, Sony’s The Green Hornet, Rango also from Paramount and Warner Bros.’ The Hangover Part II as well as X-Men: First Class. 

GMC’s distribution increased by 1.5 million new subscribers due to recent launches on Time Warner Cable and Comcast.   GMC-HD is now available via Time Warner Cable in New York City and will launch both hi-def and standard-def versions in upstate New York in July.  Later this month, GMC is launching on Comcast in both standard-def and hi-def in central Illinois.

Veria TV is now part of the hi-def roster on DISH Network L.L.C., a subsidiary of DISH Network Corporation. 

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Production began on a new restaurant makeover series, Mission Menu from Discovery Networks International (DNI).  Mission Menu, with twelve half-hour episodes, follows three international executive chefs as they rehab existing restaurant businesses and help with the establishment of new ones.  Chef Ricardo Cardona leads the threesome.  Mission Menu is a co-production with nuvoTV, re-branding from Si TV on July 4 in the US, and the program will debut exclusively on nuvoTV in the US this October.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis:   FOX led a double whammy Saturday night with a 1.3/5 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  Back-to-back Cops episodes averaged a 1.2/5 for FOX at 8p followed by a tie between ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition repeat and Univision’s Sabado Gigante at 0.7/3 each.  FOX’s AMW: America Fights Back beat all during 9p with a 1.4/5 while a re-do for second place happened as ABC’s second Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition encore and Univision’s Sabado Gigante each delivered a 0.8/3.  Then at 10p, CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery rerun did best at 1.2/4 and the third repeat installment of Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition on ABC was a solo player in second place at 0.9/3.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis:  ABC’s NBA Final ratings scored for the network Sunday at a 7.7/22 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  ABC dominated primetime with its NBA Finals Game 6, the concluding game of the series starting with a 1.7/6 at 7p for the average of Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night, the NBA Countdown Game and the start of the game followed by a 60 Minutes repeat on CBS at 1.1/4.  ABC’s NBA final game ratings jumped to a 7.2/22 at 8p while Univision’s Copa Oro 2011 coverage posted a 2.1/7.  During 9p, ABC’s NBA finals ratings surged to a 9.6/25 while Univision’s Copa Oro 2011 delivered a 2.3/6 in second place.  In its last hour at 10p, the NBA Finals on ABC averaged a 12.5/31 for the last part of the game combined with the Trophy Presentation and NBC was a distant #2 with a repeat of America’s Got Talent at 1.6/4.

Monday A18-49 Analysis:  ABC maintained an even ratings level Monday by posting a 2.3/7 with the A18-49 demo, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, ABC’s The Bachelorette scored the highest with 2.4/8 while NBC’s NHL Stanley Cup Final Game 6 skidded into second place with 1.8/6.  ABC continued its steady streak with more from The Bachelorette at 2.5/7 and NBC’s NHL Stanley Cup match was #2 at 2.1/6 and FOX’s Masterchef was a close third at 2.0/6.  NBC nicked in a win at 10p with its Vancouver at Boston NHL Stanley Cup final game at 2.1/6 and ABC slipped to second place with Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition at 2.0/6.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Food Network UK named Sue Walton as Consultant Head/Commissioning and Original Content. Sue will be based in London and supervisor for series development, finding local talent in addition to commissioning and executive producing original regional productions and co-productions.  Furthermore, Kate Bradshaw was added as Consultant Head/Digital.  Kate will also be based in London and reports to Nick Thorogood, the network’s EMEA’s Managing Director.  She will be in charge of developing and spurring the network’s digital efforts.

Richard Hartell hired by MediaVest USA as EVP/Managing Director of Human Experience Strategy.  In his new role, Richard will strengthen the agency’s Human Experience practice as well as head a team of Human Experience strategists.  Located in New York, Richard will report to Bill Tucker, CEO, MediaVest. 

Former Fox Cable Networks executive Andrew Biggers joined MSG Media as SVP/Content Distribution to head the content distribution team working for MSG Network, MSG Plus and Fuse and the company’s relationships with its top distributors.  Alison Hellman was also elevated to VP/Affiliate Marketing to manage all affiliate marketing relationships for MSG Network, MSG Plus and fuse among other duties.  Andrew and Alison report to Andrea Greenberg, EVP, MSG Media. 

Audrey Melofchik named SVP/Engagement Management with digital marketing agency Organic, Inc.  In this newly-minted position within the agency, Audrey will manage the Kimberly-Clark account.   She reports to Marita Scarfi, CEO. 

RHI Entertainment tapped Andrew P. Hines as EVP/CFO where he will provide oversight on all financial management and accounting functions.  Andrew reports to Robert Halmi Jr., President/CEO, RHI Entertainment.

Rich Rodriguez, previously the head football coach at University of Michigan becomes a game and studio analyst with CBS Sports Network for the 2011 college football season.  Rich will partner with play-by-play announcer Dave Ryan as part of the network’s weekly studio programming based in New York City.

Mindshare North America hired Richard Lawrence as Leader, Business Science and Marketing Analytics, effective immediately.  Richard reports to Phil Cowdell, CEO, Mindshare North America.
