Veteran film actress, Ann Rutherford died Monday in Beverly Hills at the age of 94.  Ms. Rutherford had memorable roles in some of Hollywood’s most iconic films including Gone with the Wind (1939) playing Scarlett O’Hara’s younger sister, Pride and Prejudice (1940), Adventures of Don Juan (1948) as well as the earlier Andy Hardy movie series playing Polly Benedict, Mickey Rooney’s girlfriend.  By the end of the 1940s, Ms. Rutherford retired from movie-making to raise a family.  She came out of retirement in the 1970s to appear in a few more movies and was also known for her role in the TV series The Bob Newhart Show playing Suzanne Pleshette’s mother.  Ms. Rutherford also turned down the role of Rose Calvert in James Cameron’s 1997 film Titanic which went to Gloria Stuart.  Over the years, she also made various appearances at Gone with the Wind anniversary events.  Ms. Rutherford’s death leaves just two other major players from Gone with the Wind still alive: Olivia De Havilland, 95 who played Melanie Wilkes, and Alicia Rhett, 97, who played Melanie’s sister, India.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will honor the life and career of Ann Rutherford on July 3 with back-to-back films over ten hours beginning at 6a with Of Human Hearts (1938).  The film tribute for Ms. Rutherford continues all day on July 3, ending with Gone with the Wind at 8p.

Hallmark Channel tapped Dylan Neal (Blood Ties, Bones, Dawson’s Creek) to star opposite Andie MacDowell in the two-hour Hallmark Original Movie, Cedar Cove which is also a pilot for the network’s first-ever scripted series.  Production began yesterday in Victoria, British Columbia.  The movie, Cedar Cove will debut in early first quarter 2013 and the series will likely launch soon after.  Cedar Cove is based on the book series by Debbie Macomber and is set in a fictional small town centered on its Municipal Court Judge Olivia Lockhart (MacDowell), her family and friends.  Neal will play Jack Griffith, the new editor of the local newspaper and Lockhart’s love interest.  Cedar Cove is an Orchard Road Productions Ltd. film.

Former star of NBC’s Chuck, Yvonne Strahovski was added to the cast of SHOWTIME’s drama series Dexter.  Strahovski will appear in a multi-episode story arc for the series’ seventh season in the role as Hannah McKay.  Her character is described as a strong, independent woman with a past that she has struggled to put behind her.  Character Hannah McKay comes to Miami Metro Homicide and Dexter works with her and discovers there is more to her than she has let on.  Production on the seventh season is underway and is slated to debut on SHOWTIME September 30 at 9p.

Comedian Andy Samberg is crossing the pond to star in a six-episode comedy series on BBC Three titled Cuckoo.  Samberg will star opposite Welsh comedian Greg Davies (The Inbetweeners) playing a New Age-thinking slacker.  Roughcut Television is producing the series which will film this summer and air later this year.  BBC Three is UK public broadcaster BBC’s network targeting 16-34 year olds.
