Notable television veteran Harold “Hal” Golden, formerly President of ABC Films, died June 30 at his home in Capistrano Beach, CA.  He was 86.  Mr. Golden’s broadcast television career spanned nearly a half century with a stint as President of ABC Films from 1965 to 1970 and as creator of The World Series of Tennis under Golden TV from 1970 to 1980.  He then joined the newly-established Worldvision Enterprises as Head/Worldwide Sales from 1980 to 1985.  Throughout his career, Mr. Golden was an early pioneer and influencer, even encouraging Phil Donahue to move his talk show from Dayton to Chicago where it thrived.  He was also an early guiding force behind NATPE and a founding member of the Association of Program Distributors.  Other key highlights of his career included bringing the Australian hit talk show The Don Lane Show to the US, and launching Love Boat into US syndication.  Mr. Golden is survived by his three children: Richard Golden, SVP/Regional Manager, Dallas, CBS Television Distribution; Margery (Golden) Rubinstein and Donald Golden as well as two grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Bernice “Bunny” and three older brothers.  Mr. Golden’s family requests memorial contributions sent to Hospice of Saddleback Valley, 654 Camino de los Mares, San Clemente, CA 92673.
