Good morning. It’s Wednesday, July 31, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
Yahoo! Sports and NBC Sports Group kicked off the latest portion of their alliance, announcing two new programs for August that will air across both television and digital platforms that will feature personalities from both companies. The first series, SportsDash with Yahoo! Sports, debuts on Aug. 19 and will utilize a digital media wall to aggregate and display fans’ sentiments and interest based around Yahoo! Sports Trends, and integrate and analyze real-time signals from multiple sources to determine what stories, highlights and personalities are driving buzz. A complementary, digital-only show will also stream live from 1-1:15p on both Yahoo! Sports and NBCSports.com and via the NBC Sports Live Extra app. NBC Sports’ Dave Briggs and Carolyn Manno host.
The weekly Fantasy Football Live-Thursday Night! kicks off on Thursday at 6:30p on NBCSN and combine both companies’ fantasy football expertise. A subsequent, digital-only version of Fantasy Football Live will be available live from 7-7:30p. NBC Sports’ Erik Kuselias hosts and will be joined by a mix of Yahoo! With national ratings in, FOX Sports reports that its latest edition of FOX UFC Saturday drove the network to an easy first place finishes despite a summer lull across all key male and adult demos. The event drew a 1.5/3 Nielsen household rating/share for a 7% gain over the UFC on FOX event last summer with comparable audience levels and claimed 2.4 million viewers. In updated numbers, FOX’s coverage of the Gold Cup Championship game posted a 1.4/4 national rating/share to officially tie the 2011 UEFA Champions League Final as the network’s highest-rated soccer broadcast ever.
ESPN’s coverage of the Brickyard 400 drew a 3.6 rating for about 5.46 million viewers over the weekend, up 9% over last year’s race. Top market was none other than Indianapolis with a 13.7 score.
ONE World Sports revealed the opening of the ONE World Sports Broadcast Center, a state-of-the-art high definition production facility in Stamford, CT as part of a comprehensive re-launch of the global sports network on Aug. 3. The channel will bring in a global sports ticker, and debut its bold on-air branding and graphics at the same time. MLS Commissioner Don Garber told the AP that negotiations for the next round of the MLS broadcast deal are set to begin this fall. The league’s TV deals with ESPN, NBC and Univision expire after the 2014 season.

NBC Sports Network debuts Hooked Up with Tom Colicchio, a new half hour series featuring the Tom Chef judge and guests at various fishing locations around the country, tonight at 7p with back-to-back episodes. The premiere features Super Bowl XLII champion and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress and Colicchio searching for fish in the Florida Everglades and talking football and family.
