~ MORE STUFF ~

Yesterday, five of the show’s six adult actors of ABC’s Modern Family have filed a complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court  against 20th Century TV in connection with the renegotiations and all have seeked to void their contracts. Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara – have all filed.  The move comes in the middle of a salary standoff that has already delayed today’s scheduled table read that would have marked the start of the fourth season of Modern Family, one of TV’s top-rated comedies.

Nat Geo WILD brings back a new season of Dangerous Encounters led by Dr. Brady Barr.  The new edition, Dangerous Encounters  Backyard Monsters opens August 22 at 8p followed by a second episode at 9p. Each episode journeys with Dr. Barr around America as he gets in front of exotic animals such as a giant alligator snapping turtle in Louisiana, a raging bull in Kansas and the javelin in Arizona.  Dangerous Encounters  Backyard Monsters is produced by National Geographic Television for the National Geographic Channels.

On Monday, Syfy’s season four debut of Warehouse 13 at 9p tallied an average of 2.1 million total viewers, 1.1 million A25-54 viewers and close to 1.0 million with A18-49.  Directly after at 10p, Syfy opened a second season of Alphas that delivered 1.7 million total viewers, 826,000 with A25-54 and 725,000 among A18-49.  Both shows comprise Syfy’s Powerful Mondays programming block.  Warehouse 13 is produced for Syfy by Universal Cable Productions and Alphas is produced by Universal Cable Productions and BermanBraun Television.

USA Network’s WWE Monday Night Raw, airing each Monday night, 52 weeks a year, ran its 1000th episode this week and also debuted a third weekly hour (now airing from 8-11p).  On Monday, WWE Monday Night Raw averaged more than 6.0 million viewers (6.04m) for the three-hour period and also attracted 2.7 million among A25-54.

Yesterday, New York’s Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed legislation that will increase the current incentives offered by the state to persuade more film post-production activity.  “New York State’s program of incentives to attract film and television productions to New York has been a tremendous success, generating billions of dollars in economic impact and supporting hundreds of thousands of hires,” Governor Cuomo said. “However, there is potential for this industry to make new investments in communities across the state and in doing so, help make New York the television and film capital of the world. With this legislation, New York is inviting producers, directors, and editors from across the nation to bring their post-production work right here to the Empire State. The new New York supports business and this law is a clear sign that the state stands ready to help enterprises that are looking for new places to invest, expand, and create jobs. I thank the sponsors for their hard work on this new law.”  Since 2004 when New York began offering tax credits to the film and television industry, producers have spent more than $7 billion in New York.

Sherman Hemsley, 74, remembered for his starring role as George Jefferson in the sitcom The Jeffersons died at his home in El Paso, TX.  Mr. Hemsley gained recognition when he joined Norman Lear’s show All in the Family in 1973 and after two seasons his character, George Jefferson was spun-off to helm his own show, The Jeffersons which also starred Isabel Sanford.  The Jeffersons was on the air for a decade, from 1975 to 1985.  Mr. Hemsley went on to play the role of a devilish church deacon in the sitcom Amen and was a voice talent in the puppet sitcom Dinosaurs.  Mr. Hemsley was not married nor did he have any children.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

Bounce TV has picked up the television rights to four collections of African American targeted films by forging separate, multi-year licensing deals with The Walt Disney Studios, Miramax, Sony Pictures Television and MGM Domestic Television Distribution.  Titles acquired from The Walt Disney Studios include What’s Love Got to Do with It, The Preacher’s Wife, Sister Act and Sister Act 2 among others; titles from Miramax include Chicago, Passion Fish, An Unfinished Life among others; titles from Sony consist of Cadillac Records, Stealth as well as classics like To Sir, With Love and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner; and titles from MGM include three other films starring Sidney Poitier: Lilies of the Field, The Defiant Ones and They Call Me Mr. Tibbs among other titles.

Me-TV Network, owned by Weigel Broadcasting Co. made a new affiliation agreement with Hearst Television.  Me-TV is adding five additional Hearst-owned stations to its roster including WCVB/Boston, KCRA/Sacramento, WBAL/Baltimore, KOCO/Oklahoma City and WXII/Greensboro.  This takes Me-TV’s Hearst affiliates to 13, and in addition Hearst extended its deal with Me-TV on the renewal of the other eight stations to 2015.  Me-TV Network is now cleared in more than 82% of the US and has 128 affiliates.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

VH1 continues in the scripted drama series category by approving a scripted series titled Bounce starring Dean Cain, Kimberly Elise and Charlotte Ross.  Bounce is about the lives of the Los Angeles Devils, the top dance team in professional basketball.  The series will also feature newcomers Taylour Paige and Logan Browning in starring roles.  James LaRosa created the series and is writing the script and he also serves as EP along with Maggie Malina.  Production will kick off in 2013.  Producing Bounce are Bryan Johnson and The Film Syndicate and In Cahoots Media.

Production on the new 29th season of Jeopardy! began yesterday at Sony Pictures Studios with host Alex Trebek back at work.  Last month, Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. following a mild heart attack.  Jeopardy! will bow its new season on September 17.

Chord Overstreet is rejoining FOX’s Glee during season four as a series regular reprising his role as Sam Evans.  Overstreet’s character will remain at McKinley High while other characters take on the Big Apple.  Glee premieres its new season on September 13 at 9p.

Michael Trucco will be back on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother this fall, per TVline.  Trucco will once again portray the guy who Robin is attracted to and referred to two seasons ago a “Crush.”  He will appear in multiple episodes of the sitcom.
