Yesterday, five of the show’s six adult actors of ABC’s Modern Family have filed a complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court against 20th Century TV in connection with the renegotiations and all have seeked to void their contracts. Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara – have all filed. The move comes in the middle of a salary standoff that has already delayed today’s scheduled table read that would have marked the start of the fourth season of Modern Family, one of TV’s top-rated comedies.

Yesterday, New York’s Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed legislation that will increase the current incentives offered by the state to persuade more film post-production activity. “New York State’s program of incentives to attract film and television productions to New York has been a tremendous success, generating billions of dollars in economic impact and supporting hundreds of thousands of hires,” Governor Cuomo said. “However, there is potential for this industry to make new investments in communities across the state and in doing so, help make New York the television and film capital of the world. With this legislation, New York is inviting producers, directors, and editors from across the nation to bring their post-production work right here to the Empire State. The new New York supports business and this law is a clear sign that the state stands ready to help enterprises that are looking for new places to invest, expand, and create jobs. I thank the sponsors for their hard work on this new law.” Since 2004 when New York began offering tax credits to the film and television industry, producers have spent more than $7 billion in New York.
Sherman Hemsley, 74, remembered for his starring role as George Jefferson in the sitcom The Jeffersons died at his home in El Paso, TX. Mr. Hemsley gained recognition when he joined Norman Lear’s show All in the Family in 1973 and after two seasons his character, George Jefferson was spun-off to helm his own show, The Jeffersons which also starred Isabel Sanford. The Jeffersons was on the air for a decade, from 1975 to 1985. Mr. Hemsley went on to play the role of a devilish church deacon in the sitcom Amen and was a voice talent in the puppet sitcom Dinosaurs. Mr. Hemsley was not married nor did he have any children.
