~ MORE STUFF ~

A new series on TLC introduces viewers to sister and brother, Bridgette (Bri) and Bradley (Brad) Jordan, who also are the world’s smallest siblings when Big Tiny premieres August 13 at 10p.  Bri and Brad may be the smallest siblings, weighing in at 18 and 35 pounds respectively, the pair have larger-than-life personalities and tons of self-confidence.  The 20-something siblings live in Sandoval, IL with their mother, Christy Jordan and their older sister, Brandi who is average-sized.  Big Tiny is produced by Wild Dream Films for TLC.

Lifetime set the premiere date for its social experiment series, The Week the Women Went for August 15 at 10p.  Narrated by comedian Jeff Foxworthy, the five-episode unscripted series examines modern-day gender roles and discovers the consequences when all the women depart their town of Yemassee, South Carolina, leaving the men to run the households, businesses and the community.  BBC Worldwide Productions produces the one-hour series which is based on a British social experiment format from the BBC.

Original real-life series Shipping Wars returns to A&E network with a second season starting August 7 with back-to-back episodes eat 9p and 930p.  The series follows six independent shippers who transport items that are considered unshippable.  Shipping Wars is produced by Megalomedia for A&E Network.

Asian American entertainment network, Myx TV is bringing back the anime series, Voltron with a third season bowing July 23.  Myx TV first debuted the classic 1980s anime cartoon series in April 2011 and holds the exclusive rights to the series nationwide.  Voltron will air on weekdays on Myx TV at 8p.

Once TV Mexico, owned and operated by Instituto Politecnico Nacional will launch its new original series Idolos del deporte mexicano (Mexican Sports Icons) via its international broadcast signal starting July 29 at 1130p.  The series features sports journalist Edgar Valero as he interviews Mexico’s top athletes during 16 half-hour episodes.  Once TV Mexico is available in the US on DirecTV in addition to various cable systems including Comcast, AT&T, Time Warner Cable, Charter, Grande Communications, Wave Division and San Bruno.

Larry King has a new talk show, Larry King Now available on Ora.TV, a new on-demand digital TV network streamed on Hulu.   Episodes of Larry King Now will air Monday-Thursday and King will interview politicians and entertainers.  During his first week, King will chat with Seth MacFarlane, Meghan McCain and Matthew McConaughey.

Veteran television creator and director, William Asher has died at the age of 90 in Palm Desert, CA.  Mr. Asher helped create the classic ABC sitcom Bewitched which starred his then-wife, Elizabeth Montgomery and ran from 1964 to 1972.  He also co-created The Patty Duke Show and directed hundreds of episodes of various series including I Love Lucy, The Danny Thomas Show and The Colgate Comedy Hour among many others.  Mr. Asher’s television career continued into the 1970s where he directed and helmed episodes of The Paul Lynde Show, Operation Petticoat, Alice and the television adaptations of The Bad News Bears and Private Benjamin.  In the realm of film, Mr. Asher directed a series of popular beach party movies that starred Annett Funicello and Frankie Avalon including Beach Party, Muscle Beach Party, Beach Blanket Bingo and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini.  While working on these films, he developed the pilot for the comedy Gidget starring Sally Field set on the beach and directed many of the episodes.  Mr. Asher was married four times, first to actress Dani Sue Nolan; to Montgomery (which ended in 1973); and to his third wife actress Joyce Bulifant.  His survivors include his fourth wife, Meredith; a son and a daughter from his first marriage; two sons and a daughter from his marriage to Montgomery; four stepchildren; nine grandchildren; and eight-step-grandchildren.  A memorial service for Mr. Asher will be held September 29 at Desert Springs Church in Palm Desert.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

GSN picked up the off-network rights to 68 one-hour episodes of the game show Minute To Win It from NBCUniversal Cable & New Media Distribution.  Guy Fieri (Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives) hosts the series where contestants participate in simple, yet nerve-wracking games to win a $1 million prize.  Minute To Win It will air in four-hour blocks on Tuesdays nights on GSN starting July 24 at 7p. 

In recent months, Outdoor Channel has launched in hi-def on XFINITY TV in several Comcast systems in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.  From March to June 2012, Outdoor Channel is now available as a hi-def channel, Outdoor Channel HD in Charlottesville, Danville and Martinsville, Virginia; in Chester and Delaware counties in Pennsylvania; and Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex and Somerset counties in New Jersey.  Outdoor Channel is available in standard-def to XFINITY TV subscribers in these areas as well.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

CMT approved four new series for production including Redneck Intervention, a one-hour reality series where a former redneck is confronted by his family and friends and persuaded to return to his roots.  Pink Sneakers is producing and the first of eight episodes will premiere September 15.  Series two is Chainsaw Gang, a ten-episode reality series slated to debut this fall featuring chainsaw artists and produced by A. Smith & Co. Productions.  Two more series will roll out in 2013 and they include Full Metal Racket (wt) spotlighting the Sumner family who operate the Knob Creek Gun Range in Kentucky and Rock Raiders (wt) about collectors Robert Reynolds and Stephen Shutts who travel the country to locate rare music memorabilia.  These four series join CMT’s previously-announced series Trinity 911 (wt) and Bounty Hunters in production.

Kevin Corrigan (Fringe) will remain on the FOX network as he joins the network’s new fall series The Mob Doctor in a recurring role.  Corrigan will play Titus Amato, described as clean-cut, business-casual mobster.  Jordana Spiro stars in The Mob Doctor produced by Sony Pictures Television which will premiere on FOX September 17. 

A familiar face from 1970s television, Bonnie Franklin (One Day at a Time) will appear on CBS’ daytime soap, The Young and the Restless playing a street-savvy nun.  Franklin begins production on her episodes this week and they will air starting in mid-August.  Franklin has also recently appeared on TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland.

~ INTERNATIONAL HAPPENINGS ~

Sundance Channel is now available via iPhones and iPads through Movistar Imagenio in Spain.  The network also recently launched in Spain on Android and Blackberry smartphones.  Since June 2011, Sundance Channel is available in both standard-def and hi-def as a 24/7 linear channel in Spain on Telefonica’s IPTV service, Movistar Imagenio.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis:  CBS led Saturday with a 0.6/2 among the A18-49 viewers, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  Double Cops encore episodes averaged a 0.5/2 to win the 8p hour for FOX while three other networks shared second place at 0.4/2 each: ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition repeat, CBS’ Crimetime Saturday and Telemundo’s Cine de Impacto.  CBS did best at 9p with a second helping of Crimetime Saturday at 0.6/2 and FOX’s Mobbed rerun followed closely at 0.5/2.  CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery encore was #1 during 10p at 0.9/3 and Univision’s weekly Sabado Gigante was #2 at 0.5/2.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis:  ABC and FOX shared the top ratings Sunday at 1.4/4 each with A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  ABC was the solo winner at 7p with an America’s Funniest Home Videos rerun at 1.2/4 and CBS’ 60 Minutes encore was next in line at 1.0/4.  CBS’ Big Brother was in charge at 8p with a 2.3/7 followed by FOX’s back-to-back The Simpsons repeats at an average of 1.6/5.  FOX then moved into the top spot at 9p with two Family Guy rebroadcasts at an average of 1.8/5 with Univision’s Pequenos Gigantes 2 following at a bit of a distance at 1.4/4.  ABC then was back in the winner’s seat during 10p with Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition at 1.5/5 and NBC’s America’s Got Talent repeat was in second place at 1.1/3.

Monday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX heated things up with the A18-49 viewers Monday at 2.6/8, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, Hell’s Kitchen won the hour for FOX at 2.6/8 while ABC’s The Bachelorette flirted in second place at 2.2/7.  Univision debuted new primetime series Por Ella Soy Eva at 8p which tied for third place along with NBC’s Fear Factor at 1.5/5 each.  Per Univision, Por Ella Soy Eva also averaged 3.7 million total viewers and 1.9 million with A18-49.  FOX leveled a second win during 9p by posting a 2.6/7 for MasterChef and The Bachelorette on ABC held steady in second place at 2.3/6.  Finally at 10p, Univision stepped into the top spot with La Que No Podia Amar at 2.0/6 and CBS’ Hawaii Five-O repeat was trailing in the #2 position at 1.1/3.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) elevated Bob Billeci to EVP/Technology and Operations, Networks.  Bob will spearhead the technical infrastructure, workflow and operations strategy for SPT linear networks globally while reporting to Andy Kaplan, President/Worldwide Networks.  SPT also upped Bob Connolly to VP/Advertiser Sales where he will work closely with the sales and planning departments to spotlight opportunities for advertisers in SPT’s shows including Seinfeld, The Dr. Oz Show and the upcoming The Queen Latifah Show as well as the emerging cross-platform network, FEARnet.  Bob reports to Stuart Zimmerman, EVP/US Ad Sales.

Sonar Entertainment, formerly known as RHI Entertainment, appointed David Ozer as EVP/Head of Global Sales.  Reporting to Stewart Till, CEO, David will supervise the daily operations of the worldwide sales team which has offices in New York, Spain, the UK, Germany and Australia.  In addition, Sonar moved John Alexander into the new role as SVP/Head of International Sales, reporting to David Ozer; and Torquil Macneal who departed RHI in 2010 returns to Sonar as SVP/International Sales.  David is based in New York while John is based in London and Torquil is located in Sydney.

The New York headquarters of Leopard Films USA hired Laura Deen as Associate VP/Development to manage the newly-established food division for the company.  Laura will manage the development and production in this unit as well as be an executive producer of its programming. 

WNET, parent company of THIRTEEN and WLIW21, New York’s public television stations and operator of NJTV, promoted Donald Lee and Natasha Padilla to Senior Publicist and Lindsey Bernstein to Junior Publicist.  Donald, Natasha and Lindsey all report to Kellie Specter, Senior Director/Communications.  Furthermore, Debbie Falk has joined NJTV as Director/Communications
 
Los Angeles-based Citizen Skull Productions tagged Bret Schafer as a Development Producer to be involved in developing both international and domestic properties.  Bret is joining after working in the international television market in addition to Cartoon Network US.

Beginning this fall, Laura Gibson takes on the newly-minted role as Creative Director/Comedy Entertainment with ITV Studios.  Laura will oversee the development and serve as executive producer of unscripted comedy entertainment formats for ITV network as well as non-ITV network channels.  She will also be involved with nurturing new comedy talent and manage a new comedy development team.  Laura reports to Shu Greene, Director/Entertainment.
