~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Making it official, Comcast is selling its 15.8% stake in A+E Television Networks for $3.025 billion according to an SEC filing issued yesterday.  This 15.8% portion is being acquired and divided equally by the other partners involved in the A+E joint venture, Disney and Hearst Corp. which will now each hold 42.5% of the A+E group of channels including A&E Network, BIO Channel, Lifetime and HISTORY.  The transaction is subject to federal anti-trust officials approving the deal.

On Monday, ABC debuted the one-hour ABC News’ Good Afternoon America which delivered 1.923 million total viewers and 359,000 with W18-49, according to Nielsen’s Fast National Preliminary data.  Good Afternoon America features anchors Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott and airs Monday-Friday at 2p on ABC.

A second season of Storage Wars: Texas is back on A&E Network beginning August 15 with double episodes at 9p and 930p followed by the return of American Hoggers, also with stacked episodes at 10p and 1030p.  In the new season of Storage Wars: Texas, viewers will follow teams of bidders on their quest for auction treasures.  Both series are produced for A&E by Original Productions, a FremantleMedia Company.

The 10th anniversary of Project Runway will be celebrated by its network Lifetime and its partner Friends of the High Line next week in New York City.  A portion of the High Line in NYC will be transformed into a virtual runway with a 20-foot long, interactive installation on the elevated park featuring the stars of the show including host Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia.  The centerpiece of the interactive installation is the Make It Work Moments where fans of the show will be able to strut their stuff live and the exhibit, using human tracking technology combined with real-time virtual emotions, will display the reactions of Klum, Gunn, Garcia and Kors. The special runway installation will open next Monday through July 19 at the Chelsea Market Passage, the passageway on the High Line between West 15th and West 16th Streets.  In addition, a VIP red carpet private event featuring Klum and other members of the show’s cast will be held at the High Line on July 17.  Season ten of Project Runway debuts on Lifetime July 19 at 9p.

TNT’s premiere of The Closer’s first of six final episodes on Monday night at 9p attracted 6.1 million total viewers.  The Closer’s premiere also averaged 1.2 million with A18-49 and 1.7 million among A25-54, based on Live + Same Day.  Immediately following at 10p, new drama series Perception tallied 5.6 million total viewers as well as 1.1 million with A18-49 viewers.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

The carriage deals between Hearst Television and Time Warner Cable as well as for Bright House and Insight (where TWC has negotiating authority) expired at midnight on June 30 and negotiations for a new deal have reached an impasse as of Monday night.  As a result of this impasse, several Hearst television stations are now not being carried by TWC, Bright House and Insight systems.  During last week for the Fourth of July holiday, Hearst Television allowed TWC an extension, while negotiations continued, until Monday evening at midnight.  The Hearst television stations and markets affected include: KETV/Omaha, KITV/Honolulu, KMBC-KCWE/Kansas City, WCVB/Boston (Manchester), WESH-WKCF/Orlando, WLKY/Louisville, WLWT/Cincinnati, WMOR/Tampa, WMTW/Portland, ME, WMUR/Boston (Manchester), WPTZ/Burlington-Plattsburgh, WTAE/Pittsburgh and WXII/Greensboro-Winston Salem. In addition, WISN/Milwaukee is operating under a further interim extension with TWC.

Viacom and DirecTV are also in a renewal agreement dispute which could mean Viacom’s networks will be removed from DirecTV’s lineup, per B&C.  DirecTV has asked Viacom to allow DirecTV to retain its channels while negotiations continue.  The current deal between Viacom and DirecTV is seven years old and Viacom contends it calls for below market rates for the Viacom networks.  DirecTV claims Viacom is asking for a +30% rate increase.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Fuse Entertainment, producers of Burn Notice and The Killing and a subsidiary of Red Arrow Entertainment Group, is working with author Michael Connelly and writer/producer Eric Overmyer (HBO’s Treme) to develop a television series based on Connelly’s character, LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch.  Rights to the Bosch character have been held by Paramount since the mid-1990s and earlier this year, Connelly bought back the rights to his character so he could pursue other opportunities.  The Bosch character will be featured in his 18th novel, The Black Box, due to be released this November.  Henrik Bastin, CEO of Fuse, Overmyer and Connelly will serve as EPs of the show.  Additionally, Fuse Entertainment will be working with SevenOne International, the distribution and sales arm of Red Arrow to package the series as an international co-production with a US network attached.

ITV Studios America made an overall deal with One Louder Productions, Inc., the production company owned and operated by TV executive Bob Kusbit.   In the television production industry for more than 25 years, Kusbit has created, developed, written and produced shows in a variety of genres including Total Request Live with Carson Daly for MTV among others.

NBC’s The Voice has added singer Michael Buble as an adviser to coach Blake Shelton’s team of contestants when the singing competition show returns on September 10.  Buble began taping his appearances in Los Angeles on Monday.  Other advisers to work with coaches Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green and Adam Levine will be announced soon.

The 2013 dramatic soap series Mistresses for ABC has tapped Shannyn Sossamon for a multi-episode run.  The series will debut next May and stars Alyssa Milano, Yunjin Kim, Rochelle Aytes and Jes Macallan, as four girlfriends.  ABC Studios is producing and ABC picked up the project straight to series last February.

British actor Barry Sloane is joining ABC’s Revenge for season two in a recurring role, reports TVLine.  Sloane will play Ethan, a mystery man with ties to Emily’s past.  Revenge moves to a new time slot of Sundays at 9p for its new season.

Charisma Carpenter is joining the cast of ABC Family’s original series The Lying Game as a series regular.  Carpenter’s character, Rebecca Sewell was introduced during the previous season as a recurring role.  Production on season two begins this month and is slated to return on ABC Family’s schedule next winter.  The Lying Game is produced by Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Television.

Casting Call: A major production company is looking for motorcyclists headed to the Sturgis Rally in South Dakota for the first time this year which will be held August 6-12, 2012.  This production company is shooting a pilot for a new television series for a national TV network.  Please contact the production company ASAP by sending an email to: [email protected].
