The 10th anniversary of Project Runway will be celebrated by its network Lifetime and its partner Friends of the High Line next week in New York City. A portion of the High Line in NYC will be transformed into a virtual runway with a 20-foot long, interactive installation on the elevated park featuring the stars of the show including host Heidi Klum, mentor Tim Gunn and judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. The centerpiece of the interactive installation is the Make It Work Moments where fans of the show will be able to strut their stuff live and the exhibit, using human tracking technology combined with real-time virtual emotions, will display the reactions of Klum, Gunn, Garcia and Kors. The special runway installation will open next Monday through July 19 at the Chelsea Market Passage, the passageway on the High Line between West 15th and West 16th Streets. The carriage deals between Hearst Television and Time Warner Cable as well as for Bright House and Insight (where TWC has negotiating authority) expired at midnight on June 30 and negotiations for a new deal have reached an impasse as of Monday night. As a result of this impasse, several Hearst television stations are now not being carried by TWC, Bright House and Insight systems. During last week for the Fourth of July holiday, Hearst Television allowed TWC an extension, while negotiations continued, until Monday evening at midnight. The Hearst television stations and markets affected include: KETV/Omaha, KITV/Honolulu, KMBC-KCWE/Kansas City, WCVB/Boston (Manchester), WESH-WKCF/Orlando, WLKY/Louisville, WLWT/Cincinnati, WMOR/Tampa, WMTW/Portland, ME, WMUR/Boston (Manchester), WPTZ/Burlington-Plattsburgh, WTAE/Pittsburgh and WXII/Greensboro-Winston Salem. In addition, WISN/Milwaukee is operating under a further interim extension with TWC.
Viacom and DirecTV are also in a renewal agreement dispute which could mean Viacom’s networks will be removed from DirecTV’s lineup, per B&C. DirecTV has asked Viacom to allow DirecTV to retain its channels while negotiations continue. The current deal between Viacom and DirecTV is seven years old and Viacom contends it calls for below market rates for the Viacom networks. DirecTV claims Viacom is asking for a +30% rate increase.
