The Weinstein Co. (TWC) purchased a 25% stake in Starz Media helmed by John Malone, which also includes the DVD distribution company Anchor Bay Entertainment. The value of the transaction was not disclosed though it does include Blue-ray, DVD, VOD, pay-per-view and digital distribution for up to 20 TWC and Dimension titles each year for five years. The deal covers such film titles as The King’s Speech, Blue Valentine and Company Men. The deal, however, does not allow films from TWC to air on pay cable network Starz which is a separate unit from Liberty’s Starz Media. TWC continues to have a pay TV pact with Showtime through 2014 for its theatrical releases.

ABC gained a win as the Second Circuit Court of Appeals threw out the FCC’s fine against the broadcast network relating to a nude scene on the former series NYPD Blue. The Third Circuit Court continues to mull over the FCC’s rulings against CBS stations involving fleeting nudity during the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show.

WealthTV premieres the new series Social on February 9 at 8p, featuring Danielle Staub, formerly of Bravo’s Real Housewives of New Jersey as she gives viewers personal tours of celebrity homes. Encore airings of Social will air on Wednesdays at 11p and Saturdays at 7p and 10p. Currently, WealthTV is available nationwide on more than 100 cable systems including Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-Verse.
