Travel Channel gave a thumbs up for more seasons to eight of its shows. The network has renewed for 2013: Airport 24/7: Miami, Baggage Battles, Bizarre Foods America, Dangerous Grounds, The Dead Files, Ghost Adventures, Hotel Impossible and Mysteries At The Museum. The network said that the number of returning shows marks a record for the network, which is moving away from travelogues to more travel entertainment style shows. On a show-by-show basis Airport 24/7: Miami comes back for a second season, Baggage Battles for a third, Bizarre Foods America for an eighth, Dangerous Grounds for a second, Dead Files for a fourth, Ghost Adventures for an eighth, Hotel Impossible for a third, and Mysteries at the Museum for a fifth.
ABC adds marketing ingredients to its new cooking competition series The Taste, that premiered January 22 in a two-hour episode. The network and show producer Kinetic Content inked integrated deals with Hellmann’s/Best Foods, Ford, Williams-Sonoma, Whole Foods Market, Alamos and Southwest Airlines. The marketing partners will be featured in various ways across platforms this season, including digital, online and social media, show producers said. As an example, Hellmann’s is sponsoring a real-time competition on the show called The Blue Ribbon Challenge that encourages viewers to play along at home. Other integrations include in-store promotions at Williams Sonoma, social media marketing with Whole Foods, and more.
In tandem with the premiere of popular series White Collar on USA last night, the network introduced a feature called Real Life White Collar Crimes online and in on-air promos. The feature includes information on actual unsolved high-end crimes, the network says, and gives fans a chance to contact the FBI with any leads. The show will also weave in one actual stolen item in each episode and fans can go to whitecollar.usanetwork.com for more information.
CMT slots January 26 at 9p for the series premiere of the third season of My Big Redneck Vacation, with Tom Arnold returning to host the 13 episodes. The season follows the Clampets on a road trip to places including Miami, Washington D.C. and Mount Rushmore.
ABC is yanking Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23 from its Tuesday lineup with back-to-back episodes of Happy Endings slated to replace it beginning January 29, according to published reports. The network still has eight episodes of Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23 in the can, but it’s not clear if they will run, The Hollywood Reporter says.
With Fringe having finished its run on Fox, Science Channel will now air episodes of the series on Friday nights in an 8p to 11p block starting January 25 that will also include experts examining the science topics featured in the show, such as time travel and dream sharing.
CMT lands Journey and Rascal Flatts for its Super Bowl XLVII CMT Crossroads concert at 11p on February 2, the night before the Super Bowl.
In advance of the upcoming NATPE conference, CBS Television Distribution clears The Arsenio Hall Show in 95% of the country. The late-night talker is slated to premiere on September 9, with Tribune Broadcasting as the anchor station group. Also on board are CBS Television, Local TV, Sinclair Broadcasting, LIN Television Stations, Belo Corp., Cox Enterprises, Media General, Post-Newsweek Stations, Newport Television, Raycom Media, The Grant Group and Sunbeam Television stations. Hall helms the show fresh off his Celebrity Apprentice win.
TV One renews its popular reality series R&B Divas for a second season with production slated to begin in Atlanta this month. The second season will reunite the original cast for eight more episodes airing in Spring 2013. The network also is spinning off a second series dubbed R&B Divas: LA, which will follow five R&B performers in Los Angeles in an eight-episode order for third quarter of 2013. TV One said the first season averaged a 0.63 rating for 25 to 54 with 395,000 viewers in that demo. ThinkFactory Media produces the show.
