Good morning. It’s Wednesday, January 19, 2005, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Premiering Tonight:
Fox:  Point Pleasant at 9p

Tonight’s Finale:
WB:  Big Man on Campus at 9p

Casting / Development / Production

  • Pax TV‘s dramedy series Young Blades (Shavick/Insight Studios in association with The Hatchery, LLC) has added Sheena Easton to the lineup as Queen Anne.  The swashbuckling series follows a group of young men who are inspired by the legendary Three Musketeers.  Young Blades debuts on January 23 at 8p.
  • Three new shows coming to Outdoor Life Network, currently in production, and all schedule to debut Spring 2005 – Outdoor Investigations (Towers Productions) with hosts Holly Morris and Jon Prescott travel the globe investigating mysteries, strange occurrences and disturbing phenomena from the outdoor world.  E-Force (TWI) is a group of dedicated cops protecting the waters off the Florida Keys  from Illegal dumping, poaching and toxic spills. Rescue Dogs (Gigantic Productions) chronicles the heroic tales of canine rescue teams at Whistler Mountain, where every second counts.
  • Dennis Haysbert will return to Fox‘s 24 as now Former President David Palmer.  Haysbert returns for the final 6 episodes/hours of the season.
  • Two new pilot orders for CBSConviction (Warner Bros. TV), a legal drama about a defense attorney turned prosecutor; and Commuters (Paramount TV Network), a primetime soap-ish drama about the lives of three couples living in the suburbs with spouses who commute daily into New York, created by Dan Bucatinsky.
  • NBC ordered up Inconceivable (Tollin-Robbins), an ensemble drama set in a fertility clinic.
  • Kim Delaney joins The O.C. for a five episode story arc beginning January 27, on Fox.

Monday night marked the debut of Supernanny on ABC at 10p delivering a 3.7/9 A18-49 rating according to fast affiliate numbers from Nielsen Media Research.  That gave the show a #3 ranking in the time period after CSI: Miami (7.7/18) and Medium (5.8/14).  Elsewhere Monday evening, NBC’s Fear Factor was back at #1 at 8pm (4.7/12), while ABC’s newest Monday night fare EMHE: How’d They Do That? earned a #2 ranking 4.2/10.  Fox’s 24 was #3 at 9p with a 4.5/10 behind CBS’ Raymond/2-1/2 Men combo (6.2/14) and NBC’s Las Vegas (4.8/11).  The Bachelorette delivered a 3.8/8.

Set your calendar Raymond fans – the final episode of Everybody Loves Raymond has been scheduled for May 16 at 9pm on CBS.

Television Critics Association (TCA) Updates:  The TCA is going on now and broadcast and cable networks are making their annual presentations to the press of new series and specials for the upcoming here.

A&E series:

  • Knievel’s Wild Ride kicks off on April 5, a reality show with son of Evel Knievel, Robbie, at its center.
  • If you like women’s rollerderby, you’ll like Roller Girls (Go Go Luckey Prods), with cameras trained of a group of women roller derby skaters in Texas.

  • Being is a new biography series with Mick Jagger on as exec producer.  No other details at this time.
  • Criss Angel is an illusionist at the focus of a new series in which Angel will give impromptu street performances.

A&E’s projects in development:

  • Little Red Man (Granada Television) is in development, a reality series where literally a little red man descends on people who have forgotten something.
  • Whipped (City Lights Ent) wherein one spouse attempts to get the other to do everything and anything they want for 48 hours – all caught on tape.
  • Spying on Myself (Scott Sternberg Prods) gives participants a chance to hear first hand what people think of them, by disguising them and letting them eavesdrop on their conversations.
  • Single Again (Endemol/True Ent) gives couples a chance to be single again for one month – they leave each other with all of their own stuff, living alone, and deciding if they prefer the single life.
  • Married in Vegas (Lighthearted Ent) is life at a wedding chapel in Las Vegas.

CBS:

  • This comment from Leslie Moonves in response to questions about the future of CBS Evening News post Dan Rather:  “We’re not going to keep doing what we’re doing. Come later this year sometime … there’s going to be a very different show on air than the show that’s on the air now.” … Moonves said CBS is considering how to make its evening news “younger and more relevant, something that younger people can relate to as opposed to that guy preaching from the mountaintop…”  Moonves also reiterated they are considering a multi-anchor format, and would not comment on the rumblings about approaching Katie Couric.

Coming to you immediately after the deliver of this morning’s Cynopsis, is the Cynopsis NATPE 2005 Syndicated Programming Guide, a listing of new strip and weekly series being offered in syndication at next week’s conference.

World Wrestling Entertainment and Stone Cold Steve Austin have come to an agreement for a three-picture deal under the WWE Films banner, produced and financed by WWE Films.  Austin’s first project is called The Condemned, exec prod by Vince McMahon and George Vrabeck, in assoc with Sidestreet/New Wave Ent. The premise finds Austin’s character, a cop of death row, given an opportunity to avoid the death penalty by participating in a reality show in which he is hunted by killers.   IN addition to the Austin film, WWE Films has plans to produce 2-4 films a year, the first being The Marine starring John Cena (WWE Smackdown), which will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.  Another is called Goodnight with WWE Raw’s Kane, a horror film with a potentially multi=film bad guy a la Freddie Kruger. Lions Gate will distribute Goodnight. Both are Village Roadshow prods.
