Tonight’s Premieres:
FOX: American Idol Part One at 8p

Season three of comedy Cougar Town with 15 episodes will premiere on ABC February 14 at 830p, taking over the former time slot of the now-canceled sitcom Work It.
CBS will air the 66th Annual Tony Awards on June 10 from 8-11p. The awards show will be broadcast live from the Beacon Theatre in New York City.
Next month, The Style Network marks the return on Sunday nights of Jerseylicious and Big Rich Texas. Jerseylicious debuts a fourth season on February 19 at 8p followed by the season two launch of Big Rich Texas at 9p. Jerseylicious is produced by Endemol USA for The Style Network and Big Rich Texas is produced by Fly On The Wall Entertainment.
Reality competition series The Glee Project was picked up for a second season by Oxygen and there are plans to expand the show when the series returns this summer. The show will follow fourteen contestants, instead of twelve, who will compete to win a seven-episode arc on FOX’s musical-comedy Glee. Ryan Murphy and Dante Di Loreto will continue as executive producers along with Michael Davies and Shauna Minoprio of Embassy Row. Also returning to the show are casting director, Robert Ulrich, choreographer, Zach Woodlee and vocal coach, Nikki Anders.
Sunday’s season one finale of AMC’s Hell on Wheels at 10p tallied 2.8 million total viewers. The season ender brought in another 1.0 million total viewers for the 11p encore delivering 3.8 million viewers for the night. Over the course of the first season, the series averaged 3.0 million total viewers; 1.3 million with A18-49 and 1.4 million among A25-54. Previously in December, AMC approved a second season of Hell on Wheels.
On Monday, Syfy debuted the second season of Being Human at 9p which delivered 1.1 million A25-54 and 1.1 million among A18-49 as well as 1.8 million total viewers. Directly after at 10p, the network premiered new series Lost Girl which attracted 1.47 total viewers; 801,000 A25-54 viewers and 694,000 with A18-49.
Mike McCormick, the longtime VP/GM of the WTMJ stations in Milwaukee died earlier in January at the age of 82. Mr. McCormick was retired and living with his wife in Winston-Salem, NC. He also served as President of the Journal Broadcast Group. Additionally, Mr. McCormick was a staunch defender of the TV newsroom’s independence and focused on maintaining a high standard of journalistic excellence and integrity at WTMJ-TV. He is survived by his wife, Gay, and their seven children.
NATPE 2012:
Nationally syndicated program, TeenKidsNews has been renewed for a tenth season. The E/I kids program is carried on all 28 Hearst television stations as well as 30 TV stations owned by Sinclair. Creator Al Primo will be with the program at NATPE working out of the Television Syndication Company booth.
AIM Tell-A-Vision Group (AIM TV) will be representing the eight-episode documentary series AfroLatinos: The Untaught Story at NATPE. The one-hour docu-series is from producer Renzo Devia’s Creador Pictures and took four years to make with the documentary team traveling to Afro-Latino communities in more than eighteen countries to conduct interviews and gather archival footage. The series will consist of eight one-hour Spanish language episodes covering the Afro-Latino experience and an identical, themed series with eight episodes in English, including original English language interviews will focus more broadly on the Afro-Latino experience in the US.

Outdoor Channel is now available in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. metropolitan areas after launching on Comcast digital’s Xfinity TV in the Elkton area and Harford and Howard Counties in Maryland in addition to Alexandria, Arlington, Manassas and Prince William County in Virginia.
Univision Communications Inc. said TeleFutura is adding the animated sitcom Family Guy to its lineup. TeleFutura is also adding a new talk show this spring hosted by television personality, Charytin. Family Guy is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and is distributed by Twentieth Television.
A pair of drama pilots was ordered by CBS. The first project is titled Elementary and is a contemporary take on the mystery cases of Sherlock Holmes with Holmes now living in New York City. Elementary is produced by CBS TV Studios with Robert Doherty on board as writer and executive producer. Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly will also serve as executive producers. The second project is a legal drama called Baby Big Shot about a working class woman who uses her street savvy skills to compete with her more sophisticated colleagues at a top New York law firm. Baby Big Shot is being written and co-executive produced by Dana Calvo with Kevin Falls set to be an EP and showrunner. Jamie Tarses will also be an EP on the project which is produced by Fanfare and Sony Pictures Television.
Soon after NBC picked up pilot project from Will & Grace writer Kari Lizer, ABC also approved a pilot order for an untitled comedy. Lizer’s second project will be produced by Warner Bros. Television and centers on Hilary Pfeiffer-Dunne, a high-powered executive who finds herself unemployed and dealing with the challenges as a full-time mom to two teenagers.
OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network serves up three new original series for 2012:
- Lovetown, USA is a production from BBC Worldwide Productions for OWN. Following a nationwide search, the show selected Kingsland, GA to become “Lovetown, USA” where two expert matchmakers will take over the town for 30 days to help eight singles find their true love in their hometown. Everyone in the town from the mayor to restaurant owners will be involved in the matchmaking process.
- Lives on Fire follows four women firefighters in California who risk their lives every day as part of a large emergency response team. The series is produced by BBC Worldwide Productions.
- Are You Normal, America? is a new game show that will help viewers find out how normal or not they are. The show is produced by Harpo Studios with Zoo Productions.
Adding to its Dance Moms franchise, Lifetime has approved the six-episode one-hour spin-off docu-series, Dance Moms: Miami. In the new edition, Dance Moms: Miami will go behind-the-scenes at Miami-based Stars Dance Studio led by owners and contemporary dance instructors Victor Smalley and Angel Armas. The new series is from Collins Avenue.
This April, TV One adds two new series to its lineup:
- My Momma Throws Down is a cooking competition show hosted by comedian/actor Ralph Harris and produced by Triage Entertainment. The show will highlight two mothers, nominated by a family member and backed by a team of family supporters as they compete in a cook-off in the Throwdown Kitchen for cash and prizes and judged by a panel of culinary experts, celebrities and foodie personalities.
- Love Addiction will cast a light on men and women involved in toxic relationships and the show will try to save them through an intervention by people who care the most about them. The show will employ relationship experts and gather parents, grandparents, siblings, children and friends of the love addicted in this transformational intervention series produced for TV One by Mike Mathis Productions.
New Zealand-born actor Grant Bowler landed the starring role in Syfy’s new science fiction series Defiance merging television with massive multiplayer online (MMO) gaming for the first time. The project combines Trion Worlds with the Syfy series and Trion’s multi-platform shooter MMO will roll out simultaneously. Bowler will play former Marine and law official Jeb Nolan who works in a bustling frontier boomtown that is one of the new world’s few places boasting civility and inclusion. Rockne S. O’Bannon (Warenhouse 13, Alien Nation) serves as executive producer and writer. Production on Defiance begins this April in Toronto.
Nadia Dajani was cast in CBS’ The Good Wife playing Will’s older meddling sister, Sara.

Friday A18-49 Analysis: ABC and CBS shared the top spot Friday night at 1.6/5 A18-49 each, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, FOX’s Kitchen Nightmares and Univision’s Una Familia con Suerte each posted a 1.7/5 followed by the series finale of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition at 1.4/4 and CBS’ A Gifted Man in third at 1.3/4. During 9p, a three-way tie for #1 occurred between ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, CBS’ CSI: NY and Univision’s La Que No Podia Amar with each network delivering a 1.7/5 and NBC’s Grimm was in the second position at 1.4/4. CBS was the solo winner at 10p with Blue Bloods at 1.8/5 though ABC’s 20/20 was a close contender in second at 1.7/5 and NBC’s Dateline was #3 at 1.3/4.

Daily newsmagazine show, America Now co-hosted by Leeza Gibbons and Bill Rancic from ITV Studios America and Raycom Media, has expanded its distribution team by hiring Mary Carole McDonnell’s Bellum Entertainment to handle distribution. Bellum added Boots Walker as VP/Sales and she and Boyd McDonnell, VP/Programming will head the five-person sales team to help expand the show’s reach.
Odyssey Pictures Corporation tapped Ralph Boral as COO and Executive in Charge of Production. In his new position, Ralph will head the daily operations of the company, new technology development as well as capital planning. Ralph’s scope will also involve the coordination of all production functions and serve as producer on Odyssey’s current animated feature film in pre-production, Hank The Cowdog.
CBS Television Distribution advances Greg Guenther to SVP/Midwest Regional Sales Manager. Greg has been with CTD for 15 years and in his new role he will manage all sales activity emanating from the Chicago office and will be in charge of selling to major broadcast groups located in the Midwest including Tribune, Local TV, Weigel, Newport and Barrington Broadcasting.
Univision Communications Inc. appointed Luis Fernandez-Rocha as SVP/TeleFutura and Carlos Bardasano as VP/Programming and Original Productions at TeleFutura, effective immediately. Luis will manage all operations for TeleFutura while reporting to Luis Fernandez, President/Entertainment and Univision Studios. Carlos joins from Spanish media management company, Kastuera will head entertainment programming for TeleFutura. Carlos will report to Luis Feernandez-Rocha. Both Luis and Carlos are based in Miami.
