Yesterday at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour ABC’s President Paul Lee revealed several news bits:

  • Cougar Town will tentatively return to ABC’s schedule this March and the network will announce a firm premiere date in a couple of weeks.
  • Lee said he is thinking about a potential new night of comedy that might include Cougar Town, Happy Endings as well as midseason sitcom Don’t Trust the B—- In Apartment 23 which is set to premiere on April 11 at 930p.
  • Shonda Rhimes’ new drama series Scandal will debut April 5 at 10p following Grey’s Anatomy.  This scheduling strategy will move Private Practice with its four remaining episodes to Tuesdays at 10p following the Dancing with the Stars results show.
  • With the September premiere of Katie Couric‘s daytime talk show, the decision on what to do with ABC’s remaining daytime soap General Hospital is still out, according to Lee.
  • Lee said new episodes of Pan Am will air through the end of February and after that the fate of the frosh show will be decided.
  • For its second season, ABC may opt to move the location of Revenge away from the Hamptons, also per Lee.

Showtime has renewed its baseball docu-series The Franchise for a second season though the team to be featured has not yet been announced.  During its first season the San Francisco Giants were spotlighted and over eight episodes the series averaged 651,000 viewers.

A third season of Swamp People debuts February 9 at 10p on HISTORY. Original Media produces the series for HISTORY.  In addition, a fourth season of competition series Top Shot debuts February 14 at 10p.  Eighteen competitors will battle for the Top Shot title and the $100,000 prize package along with a professional contract with Bass Pro Shops.  Top Shot is produced for HISTORY by Pilgrim Films.

CBS’ revamped CBS This Morning made its debut Monday morning and delivered a +5% ratings increase compared to the previous Mondays in December (excluding holidays), based on preliminary Nielsen live plus same day ratings for January 9.
