Former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann landed at Current Media where he will soon serve as executive producer and host for a new nightly primetime news and commentary show on Current TV. Olbermann’s new show does not have a title yet nor a specific time period though it is expected to premiere in the spring. Production will be based in New York City. In addition to his show duties, Olbermann will also be the company’s Chief News Officer and will hold an equity stake in Current Media which was founded in 2005 by Al Gore and Joel Hyatt. Current TV is distributed in more than 75 million households worldwide, 60 million in the US alone.
TLC ordered eight half-hour episodes of new series Pawn Queens debuting May 5 at 10p. The inaugural episode drew in 1.2 million total viewers. The series follows two businesswomen Minda and Nikki as they operate the only pawn shop catering to women located near Chicago. Pawn Queen is produced by Varuna TV for TLC.
MTV premieres the sophomore season of The Hard Times of RJ Berger beginning March 24 at 11p directly after the Jersey Shore season finale. The second season of Hard Times will resume where the plot left off at the end of season one following the life and times of awkward 15-year old RJ Berger. Following the premiere, the series will switch to its regular time slot of Mondays at 10p starting March 28.
Super Bowl XLV was not the only bowl event that scored on Sunday as Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl VII attracted its largest audience ever with 9.2 million unique total viewers over the 12-hour marathon. For its two-hour premiere at 3p, Puppy Bowl averaged more than 1.7 million total viewers, a 60% increase over the previous year during the 3-5p time period.
Discovery Channel’s season conclusion of American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior on Monday at 9p tallied 3.47 million total viewers and posted a 2.01 AA% among A25-54.
Hallmark Channel acquired the complete series of Frasier from CBS Television Distribution. The deal includes all eleven seasons with 264 total episodes of the comedy series. Hallmark Channel will air Frasier as a Monday-Friday strip in a two-hour block, premiering the series as soon as April 4 at 9p.
TV Land cast several stars for its upcoming multi-camera pilots that are taping this month:
- Fran Drescher, Tichina Arnold, John Michael Higgins, D.W. Moffett, Rita Moreno, Valente Rodriguez and Robert Walden will star in Happily Divorced.
- Donald Faison, Wayne Knight, David Alan Basche and Kristen Johnston will star in an untitled comedy pilot from Mark Reisman.
- Christine Taylor, Barry Watson and Sherri Shepherd will headline a comedy pilot by Terri Minsky titled for now as Rip City.
Hilarie Burton promoted to full-time series regular on USA Network’s White Collar for next season, cites TV Guide. Burton has appeared as a recurring character, Sara Ellis since the start of the second season.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis: FOX led with a one-two punch Saturday night at 1.9/6 among A18-49, according final national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, FOX’s double Cops episodes averaged a 1.9/6 to win followed by ABC’s Wipeout repeat at 1.3/4. FOX continued in first place at 9p with AMW: America Fights Back at 1.8/6 and ABC played second fiddle again with its Shrek movie at 1.4/4. ABC was the solo leader at 10p with more of its movie presentation at 1.6/5 while NBC’s Law & Order: SVU encore was next at 1.0/3

Sunday A18-49 Analysis: FOX trounced the competition with historic ratings and total viewership Sunday night at 36.7/72 with the A18-49 demo, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. Super Bowl XLV on FOX delivered a monumental 111 million total viewers this night and at 7p also posted a 38.9/78 while a four-way tie for second place occurred between ABC’s America’s Funniest Home Videos repeat, CBS’ 60 Minutes Presents encore, Telemundo’s Idolos de Mexico III and Univision’s Hora Pico all at 0.5/1 each. FOX’s gigantic ratings for the Super Bowl ticked up higher at 8p with a 40.7/77 and CBS’ Undercover Boss and Univision’s Cine Especial shared #2 at 0.8/2 apiece. FOX’s Super Bowl ratings grew even more during 9p at 42.4/78 and Univision’s Cine Especial trailed in second place at 1.1/2. FOX closed the night still commanding a large lead through 10p with Super Bowl Post-Game and Glee averaging an 18.3/42 while NBC’s Dateline Classic encore showed up in the second spot at 1.2/3.

CBS then flipped into first place at 9p with its sitcoms Two and a Half Men and Mike & Molly with an average of 3.9/10, ABC’s The Bachelor came in second place at 3.3/8 and FOX’s new cop drama Chicago Code premiered in third place at 2.4/6. Sean McManus, President/CBS News and Sports since 2005 elevated to Chairman/CBS Sports. In his new role, Sean will strive to expand the company’s roster of sports properties across all of CBS Sports operations. Succeeding Sean in the news division, CBS promoted Jeff Fager, who is the Executive Producer of 60 Minutes to the newly-minted position of Chairman/CBS News and David Rhodes, previously the executive in charge of US Television operations for Bloomberg was tapped as President/CBS News. Turner Entertainment Networks (TEN) upped Jeff Gregor as EVP/CMO for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and to assume the GM title and duties for TCM. Jeff will head all marketing efforts for TNT, TBS and TCM in addition to serving as the lead of TCM. Most recently, Jeff was CMO for the three networks. He is based in Atlanta and reports to Steve Koonin, President of TEN.
