Tomorrow morning at 930a, for those who want the full show, C-SPAN will cover the Comcast/NBC Universal hearing live in front of the House Communications and Internet Subcommittee. There is an afternoon hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Antitrust Subcommittee, but as of yet, C-SPAN has not announced if it will cover this one as well. Attending both hearings will be Comcast’s CEO Brian Roberts and NBCU’s CEO Jeff Zucker.

Before Oprah Winfrey departs her syndicated daily talk show, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network will air a 60m primetime docu-series, Behind the Scenes: Oprah’s 25th Season. The program will be part of OWN’s inaugural schedule launching in January 2011 and will allow viewers an unprecedented look at the making of The Oprah Winfrey Show during its final season.

OWN also announced it has four other primetime shows in development:

  • Kid-napped (wt) – One-hour series where kids will take the upper hand with workaholic parents, banning them from work and even taking away their blackberries and cell phones. The effort is all about the kids having some quality time with their parents. Project is based on a UK format with Love Productions producing.
  • Miracle Detectives (wt) – Two detectives, one a believer and the other a skeptical scientist, team to solve mysterious situations around the globe. Each episode has the team uncovering two different miracles, with on-site investigations, interviews with witnesses and authorities. 60m series produced by Pilgrim TV and Film.
  • Search (wt) – One-hour show features famous search specialist and New Jersey housewife, Pam Slaton as she attempts to help three different people find their missing loved ones. Stuart Krasnow Productions produces.
  • Sentenced (wt) – This 60m series is based at the Rockville Correctional Facility, a maximum-security women’s prison in Rockville, IN. Each episode will profile real-life women incarcerated at this facility and will uncover the ways this prison is offering hope and rehabilitation to these women. Produced by 44 Blue with Rasha Drachkovitch as executive producer.

Unemployed New Yorkers can now get additional help finding a job as a new ten-episode series Job Hunt debuted on NYC life channel starting yesterday. Job Hunt was introduced to the public by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, NYC Media President Katherine Oliver and Small Business Services Commissioner Robert W. Walsh. The weekly series, hosted by Tory Johnson will air each Tuesday at 9p, featuring expert advice as well as emphasizing NYC’s Workforce1 Career Centers and NYC Business Solution Centers. Job Hunt will re-air on Wednesdays at 3a, Thursdays at 5a, Fridays at noon, Sundays at 8p and Mondays at 12a with a marathon airing on Saturdays at 930a. Full episodes are also available via the NYC Media Video on Demand player at nyc.gov after they air.

James (Jim) Jeffrey Lyle, 59, died suddenly January 23 at Norwalk Hospital due to an apparent heart attack. Jim began his career managing public relations for Ev Clay Associates in Miami and later in the mid-1980s joined CBS Publishing in New York City and afterward established his own consulting firm, Video Publishing Resources in NYC. Jim, as consultant, worked for various clients including the Annenberg Foundation, BBC Television, WGBH/Boston, National Geographic, Discovery Channel and HISTORY among others. Jim was a regular delegate at MIP and MIPCOM markets and the VSDA (Video Software Dealers Association) as well as at NATPE. Following 9/11, Jim donated much time and energy to public service and through his church, the Wilton Congregational Church, was active with Habitat for Humanity and recently served as Board Director of the Coastal Fairfield County Chapter. Jim is survived by his wife, Lorna whom he married in 1990 and their daughter Amelia Marie, as well as three sisters and many nieces and nephews and five grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A memorial service will take place February 20 beginning 11a at the Wilton Congregational Church in Wilton, CT. Contributions in Jim’s memory can be made to Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County, 1542 Barnum Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06610.

Producer of the classic TV show The Andy Griffith Show, Aaron Ruben, 95, died Saturday at home in Beverly Hills from pneumonia. Aaron also wrote for The Andy Griffith Show over five seasons and was executive producer of its spin-off, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. Later in his career, Aaron wrote and was the first producer of Sanford and Son in the 1970s.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Film and Broadway star, Matthew Broderick will helm NBC’s new multi-camera comedy pilot Beach Lane which was picked up the network yesterday. Beach Lane, produced by Universal Media Studios and Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video and written by Paul Simms (NewsRadio), is about a celebrity author (Broderick) who is hired by an irresponsible millionaire to run his struggling small-town newspaper in the Hamptons. Michaels will executive produce along with Marci Klein.

CBS gave pilot orders to several projects:

  • Reagan’s Law from Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green (The Sopranos), tagged as a multi-generational program about a family of New York cops, per THR. Burgess and Green are executive producing with Leonard Goldberg; CBS Television Studios is producing.
  • CBS additionally okayed a medical drama pilot from John Wells (ER), cited THR. The yet-to-be-titled drama produced by Warner Bros. Television is about a traveling medical team in the US who aid the less fortunate through major medical crises. Hannah Shakespeare penned the script and will executive produce along with Wells.
  • CBS picked up another drama titled ATF about an ATF agent who searches for dangerous criminals all the while trying to maintain a normal life for his teen daughter. Michael Dinner is writing and directing; Sony Television is developing the project and will co-produce with CBS Television Studios.
  • CBS further gave a presentation order to the drama The Quinn-tuplets from CBS Television Studios about the personal and professional lives of the adult Quinn quintuplets whose lives were played out on TV. The project is also based on the Israeli series The Ran Quartet. Mike Kelley and Chris Kelley are writing; Mike Kelley is executive producing with Giyora Yahalom, Oren Jakobi, Yona Wiesenthal and Eilon Ratzkovsky. Arik Kneller will co-executive produce and Chris Kelley will serve as producer.

Fox Sports en Espanol welcomed Mexican soccer player CuauhtEmoc Blanco as host of the weekly series The Hour of CuauhtEmoc Blanco which premiered on Monday at 1230a. The one-hour show has CuauhtEmoc giving his take and offering commentary about news surrounding Mexican and international soccer as well as featuring guests, current soccer players and sports journalists.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis: Week to week, FOX maintained the same winning ratings Saturday night among A18-49 at 1.9/6, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. FOX’s back-to-back Cops episodes averaged a top-rated 2.0/6 at 8p with CBS’ Hallmark Hall of Fame movie rebroadcast next at 0.8/3. FOX blocked the other nets at 9p with AMW: America Fights Back at 1.8/5, followed by the second half of CBS’ Hallmark Hall of Fame movie at 1.1/3. It was CBS’ turn to be #1 during 10p as 48 Hours Mystery posted a 1.5/5 with NBC’s Law & Order: SVU repeat at #2 with 1.2/4.

Sunday  A18-49 Analysis: CBS hit the right note with the A18-49 demo with an 8.1/20, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. Starting out, ABC edged into first place at 7p with America’s Funniest Home Videos at 2.3/6 with CBS’ 60 Minutes a mere step away at 2.2/6. The rest of the evening belonged to the Grammy Awards as CBS tallied a 9.7/23 during 8p with the average of The Simpsons and The Cleveland Show on FOX next at 2.3/5. CBS’ Grammy Awards presentation shined again at 9p with a 10.4/23 and ABC’s Desperate Housewives took over the #2 slot at 3.7/8. CBS and the Grammys took the final win at 10p with 10.0/25 with ABC staying put in second place as Brothers & Sisters delivered a 2.4/6.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Robert Dodds was named CEO of 19 Entertainment where he will oversee the daily operations. Since August 2006, Robert has served as President of the company. Robert also replaces Simon Fuller in this role, as Simon made a long-term agreement with CKX.

IFC tapped Dan Pasternack as VP/Development and Production, effective immediately. The network also reorganized its original programming team with Dan leading the division’s initiatives to develop more original scripted comedies and unique non-fiction programming. Christine Lubrano, VP/Current Productions and Branded Entertainment will continue in her role overseeing IFC’s current roster of originals in production. Both Dan and Christine report to Debbie DeMontreux, SVP/Original Programming.

Geraldine Moriba will become Executive Producer of CNN’s In America division, comprised of the In America franchise anchored by Soledad O’Brien. Geraldine will manage the editorial aim of the In America unit, working with O’Brien and a group of producers to produce the In America series in addition to long form primetime documentaries. Previously, Geraldine spent 16 years at NBC News and for the last 12 years, was a producer for Dateline NBC.

Paige Soltano joins Katz Media Group as Director/Recruitment, Human Resources. Based in New York, Paige will develop goals and strategies for recruiting new hires for positions throughout Katz and its divisions nationwide.

Joe Lin was hired as Creative SVP with Digitas in the agency’s Stamford office. Joe will take the creative lead on the Delta account as well as others, partnering with Kenneth Parks, Managing Director of the Stamford office. Joe will report to Lincoln Bjorkman, EVP/Executive Creative Director, Digitas New York region.
