Commercials in this Sunday’s Super Bowl XLV are sold out by FOX, with each 30-second spot priced at an estimated $2.8 million to $3 million. FOX sold much of its Super Bowl ad time months ago though the last few spots were nabbed recently including one that became available at the last minute. Some of the companies purchasing ads from FOX include Audi (Volkswagen), InBev (Anheuser-Busch), Cars.com, Chevrolet (General Motors), E*Trade Financial, GoDaddy.com, Hyundai and Kia among others. Last year, CBS sold Super Bowl ads for $2.5 million to $2.8 million apiece. Additionally, Kantar Media accumulated research on the last 10 years of Super Bowl advertising. A couple of nuggets from Kantar Media’s report include:
- From 2001 through 2010, the Super Bowl amassed 425 total minutes (or seven full hours) of commercial time equal to more than 850 spots and $1.62 billion in ad sales.
- Over the last 10 years, the top five Super Bowl advertisers spent $592 million on ads during the game with InBev (Anheuser-Busch) leading with $235 million; followed by Pepsico Inc. at nearly $171 million; Walt Disney Co. at almost $71 million; General Motors Corp. at $61 million; and Coca-Cola Co. at $54 million. Both InBev (Anheuser-Busch) and Pepsico have advertised every year for the last 10 years.
Retirement Living TV (RLTV) made a carriage deal with the National Cable Television Cooperative (NCTC) to be distributed by NCTC member systems.
Lockwood Broadcast Group is buying WBXX-TV, the CW affiliate in Knoxville from ACME Communications. The transaction is expected to close later this year following the FCC’s approval. The amount of the sale was not disclosed.

A stranger comes to town offering justice, peace and faith to its residents. Cherry will write the pilot and serve as executive producer with Sabrina Wind who manages his ABC-based production company.
- Identity is from Mark Gordon Co. based on an ITV format of the same name. John Glenn is writing with Mark Gordon and Deb Spera as executive producers.
- Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are behind a sci-fi/fantasy drama with mystery included titled Once Upon a Time, a contemporary re-telling of fairy tales with a female protagonist set in a small town in Maine. ABC Studios is producing.
Producer Leslie Greif behind Boutique TV (formerly known as The Greif Company) and his producing partner, Adam Reed are re-launching the company as Thinkfactory Media with a fresh brand identity and logo.
