Comcast has bought out GEs remaining stock in NBCUniversal for $16.7 billion. The buy-in, originally planned for next year, was accelerated, giving Comcast 100% control of its US Entertainment holdings.

Core Fusion: The name for the upcoming ABC and Univision joint news and lifestyle network for US Hispanics has been announced: Fusion, set to launch the second half of this year.  Ben Sherwood, president of ABC News said, “Our goal is for this audience to come to Fusion to be informed, entertained and empowered.”  At launch, five large cable distributors have already signed on to carry the network including Cablevision, Charter, Cox, AT&T U-verse and Google Fiber.  Based in Miami, programming will encompass the economy, entertainment, music, food, immigration issues, pop culture, education, politics, health and wellness and more. 

~ 2013 UPFRONTS ~

Style Media plans to increase its original programming by +22% in the coming year.  Three new series rolling out:

  • Pop Style (wt) takes viewers to the front row of fashion in New York, Los Angeles, Paris and Toledo. The weekly studio-based series is hosted by Jeannie Mai and Louise Roe. Produced by Embassy Row with Michael Davies as EP.
  • Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous is inspired by the original classic series of years ago and shows how the fabulously wealthy live. RealativityREAL is producing with Television 360 and Rysher EntertainmentTom Forman and Brad Bishop are EPs for RelativityREAL along with Television 360’s Daniel Rappaport and Scott Lambert and Rysher’s Patrick Gunn
  • Luxe Life Miami (wt) is a docu-series featuring the life and business of former Apprentice star Katrina Campins, a Miami real estate agent who caters to A-list celebrities, athletes and the wealthy. Atlas Media Corp. is behind this series with Bruce David Klein as EP and Katrina Campins as Producer.

      In Development:

  • Glam Squad (wt) EP and Academy Award winner Charlize Theron offers a behind-the-scenes look at teams of make-up artists and hair stylists who vie for high-profile jobs.  Bunim Murray Productions is producing in association with Theron’s Denver & Delilah Films.  EPs are Jonathan Murray, Gil Goldschein, Theron, Beth Kono, A.J. Dix and William Shively.

    Returning this summer:

  • A sixth season of Giuliana & Bill, produced by Comcast Entertainment Studios 
  • Tia & Tamera, produced by Good Clean Fun returns with a third season

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

A Cynopsis Exclusive: Interactive television’s Youtoo Technologies has integrated its interactive video technology into television’s longest-running court show, Divorce Court, distributed in syndication by Twentieth Television and produced by Monet Lane Productions, Inc. Fans will be invited to respond to a “Question of the Week” by recording a video in one of three ways: via a webcam at DivorceCourt.com, using the “Divorce Court” Facebook app or a soon-to-be-released mobile app. According to Chris Wyatt, Youtoo’s CEO, “we’re seeing great week over week participation with the service. As with any new technology integration, we’ll determine which calls to action are more effective than others.  But in the first three weeks, responses have more than tripled.” Youtoo is also experimenting with real-time voting on Divorce Court that will be published on digital platforms along with viewer comments and tweets. 

Atlanta’s social scene is the setting of Bravo Media’s next new docu-series, Married to Medicine, premiering Sunday, March 24 at 9p.  The series follows the lives of six of Atlanta’s socially elite women who are involved in the world of medicine as doctors or wives of doctors as they juggle busy careers and charitable events.  Married to Medicine is produced by FremantleMedia North America and developed by Purveyors of Pop.

RLTV launches its new documentary series with The THORLO Story on Thursday, February 21 at 9p.  The documentary examines the success story of the family-owned American company best known for creating activity-specific padded socks.  The Statesville, NC-based manufacturer is taking on a niche market  the 50+ market. 

~ RETURNING SERIES ~

A third series of Syfy’s Haunted Collector opens Wednesday, March 6 at 8p.  Haunted Collector will air on Wednesdays at 10p during its new season immediately following the network’s new unscripted series Stranded.  Haunted Collector is produced by Gurney Productions.

New episodes of Animal Planet’s Tanked rejoin the network’s schedule on Friday, March 22 at 9p.  Tanked is produced for Animal Planet by Nancy Glass Productions.

Season three of I Love Jenni, an original Hispanic celebrity reality series premieres Sunday, April 14 at 9p on mun2.  The series spotlights Latin music superstar Jenni Rivera; footage was shot a month prior to her untimely death last December. I Love Jenni is from Jenni Rivera Productions and is also an original mun2 production.  The series airs with English language subtitles.

Correction: GMC TV’s upcoming stage play produced for television, “JD Lawrence’s Community Service” will debut this Saturday, February 16 at 7p, 9p & again at 11p.  This Saturday’s airing is the first of nine stage plays to air this year on GMC TV.  Next up in March will be “Between Sister.”

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

FX ordered a new drama series called The Bridge from writers/producers Meredith Stiehm (Homeland) and Elwood Reid which will be co-produced by Shine America and FX Productions and stars Demian Bichir and Diane Kruger. FX gave the drama project a 13-episode order; the show is adapted for US TV from the series Bron, which was set on the border of Denmark and Sweden produced by Shine Group’s Filmlance and Denmark’s Nimbus Film Production. EPs on board include Shine America’s Carolyn G. Bernstein and Filmlance’s Lars BlomgrenShine International will handle the distribution.

Action sports course designer Chris “Gunny” Gunnarson and award-winning television producer Jason Carbone are teaming for a new real-life series on National Geographic Channel called Mountain Movers.  The series will offer a behind-the-scenes look at how Gunnarson and his Snow Park Technologies crew design and build competition courses for such events as the Winter X Games in the US and Europe.  Nat Geo will premiere the series this spring.  General Motors is a co-producing partner for Mountain Movers as the Chevrolet brand is the lead media partner for the show which includes integration components.

Multimedia company Al Roker Entertainment Inc. (ARE) inked a development deal with Dina Manzo, the star of HGTV’s Dina’s Party and a former cast member of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey.  Plans are in the works for a docu-series that will depict Dina’s next chapter of her life. 

Casting Call: FOX’s The X Factor will be launching its nationwide search for talent beginning March 6 in Los Angeles followed by Charleston, SC on March 19; New Orleans on April 14; Long Island, NY on April 25; and Denver on May 14.  More information about the auditions can be found at: www.thexfactorusa.com/.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis:  ABC won Saturday and the A18-49 viewers with a 1.1/3, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  FOX led the 8p hour with back-to-back Cops episodes at an average of 1.1/4 while a four-way tie for #2 took place between ABC’s Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown repeat special, NBC’s American Ninja Warriors, UniMas’ Liga Mexicana match and Univision’s Sabado Gigante all at 0.7/2.  At 9p, ABC topped with its Movie of the Week offering at 1.3/4 and UniMas’ game between Tijuana and America posted a second place at 0.9/3.  ABC remained in first place through 10p with more of its movie at 1.4/4 and CBS’ 48 Hours moved into the #2 spot at 1.2/4.

Sunday A18-49 Analysis:  CBS glittered in first place Sunday night at 8.3/21 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  At 7p, ABC’s America’s Funniest Home Videos and CBS’ 60 Minutes shared the top spot with a 1.8/5 apiece while FOX’s Bob’s Burgers repeat and The Cleveland Show came in third at an average of 1.3/4.  CBS was a smash in the ratings during 8p with the opening hour of the 55th Annual Grammy Awards at 10.1/24 and ABC’s Once Upon a Time was #2 at 2.2/5.  CBS’ Grammy Awards ratings peaked at a 10.9/25 in the 9p hour and FOX’s animated comedies Family Guy and American Dad came next at an average of 2.3/6.  CBS Grammy ratings slid back to a 10.2/25 though still dominated at 10p and NBC’s SNL special trailed in second place at 0.9/2.

Effective immediately, BBC America elevated Matt Stein to SVP/Marketing, Promotion and Creative Services. In his new position, Stein will continue to manage all marketing, advertising and promotion efforts for the network and will also be the primary contact for brand relations with the UK. 

Multiplatform media company Veria Living named Joseph Cho as its first VP/Digital.  He will be based at company headquarters in New York reporting to General Manager Paul Cestari.

Diana Terry was named VP/Corporate Marketing at Univision Communications Inc. where she will head the development and management of Univision’s brand identity.  She most recently served as Director/Corporate Marketing at Univision.
