Playhouse Disney will premiere the long-form preschool series, Johnny & The Sprites, Saturday, January 13, 10a. A music-based series, Johnny & The Sprites features a mix of live-action and puppets and aims to model positive social behavior and respect differences in people, places and cultures. Created by writer, executive producer and its star, John Tartaglia, Johnny & The Sprites originally began on Disney Playhouse as a short-form series. The series will air regularly Saturdays and Sundays at 10a, and is slated to rollout on Disney Channels and Playhouse Disney channels around the world (dates TBD).
The N will air the season-two finale of South of Nowhere, with back-to-back episodes on Friday December 22, at 8 and 8:30p. The season ender has the teens preparing for and attending prom, bringing all the teen angst that generally comes with the event and then some, and Aiden reveals his not-so-secret secret, all of which leads to a double cliffhanger. Leading up to the season-two finale, the-N.com will feature exclusive South of Nowhere content, including behind the scenes interviews, on its broadband media player, The Click, and in addition South of Nowhere webisodes will continue to debut every Friday.
G4 is set to premiere new episodes of Icons, its weekly documentary/bio series, which will focus on three experts in their chosen fields: Tom “Tsquared” Taylor, the 19-year-old professional video-gamer; Chuck Liddell, the Ultimate Fighting Champion; and the Lord of Dogtown, skateboarding guru Tony Alva. The new Icon episodes will bow on Sunday, December 10, 17 and 24 at 11p. Worth mentioning here is that each episode of Icons features music by indie bands, and their music can also be heard on the Icons area of the G4 website.
MTV will air MTV Unplugged: KORN live across all of its multi-platforms including MTV, mtvU, MTV Tr3s, MTV.com, wireless and so on. MARKETING/LICENSING
Cartoon Network Enterprises has inked licensing deals for Cartoon Network’s animated action/adventure series Ben 10 in several new categories for 2007. New softline agreements for the series include those with Jay Franco and Sons, Inc., Accessory Innovations and AME (American Marketing Enterprises, Inc.), which will see the debut of a full line of bed, bath and beach items, accessories, sleepwear and so on launching in 2007.
PixFusion LLC, a personalized, branded video products creator, has inked a multi-year licensing deal with Marvel/Spider-Man Merchandising L.P., including the license for Spider-Man and his family of characters. Under the deal, PixFusion will use its technology to publish a “photo-personalized” video, I Am the Amazing Spider-Man. PixFusion creates videos for a host of licensed characters and properties by taking a color photo of a kid sent to them (e-mail or snail-mail) and integrating the photo into an story. In this case the kid would star as Spidey in an adventure based on Spider-Man-The Animated Series. The I Am the Amazing Spider-Man DVD is available via PixFusion’s website www.kideo.com.
