~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

HBO handed good news to frosh comedy Enlightened starring Laura Dern, renewing the series for a second season.  Three other HBO comedies were cancelled including Hung, How to Make It in America and Bored to Death.  The three comedies were axed apparently to make room on Sunday nights for new programming HBO will launch in 2012.  Hung has averaged 3.9 million viewers while How to Make It in America and Bored to Death each averaged 2.3 million viewers taking multiple linear telecasts, DVR and On Demand into consideration.  The newly renewed Enlightened has the smallest average audience of 1.5 million viewers though has received much critical acclaim.

Marking the first time in 46 years, the Super Bowl will officially be available through live streaming.  The NFL will live stream the Super Bowl’s NBC telecast in addition to this current season’s Pro Bowl and NBC’s broadcasts of Wild Card playoff games through the NFL’s and NBC’s websites via Verizon’s NFL Mobile app.  NBC will televise Super Bowl XLVI on February 5.

Upcoming new series Q’VIVA! THE CHOSEN documenting the transcontinental journey to find the best Latin American artists will make its Spanish-language US premiere January 28 at 7p on Univision.  The series from Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony and Jamie King in partnership with BlackBerry will also air on top networks throughout the Americas.  Univision will air the one-hour Q’VIVA! THE CHOSEN over 12 weeks each Saturday at 7p.  Other networks airing the series include Televisa in Mexico and Caracol in Colombia.  The series will debut internationally throughout Central and South America and additional networks as well as a major English-language US broadcaster will be announced soon.

Two of Oxygen’s series have tweaked their premiere times.  Bad Girls Club: Las Vegas will be back on January 23 at a new time starting at 10p.  The new reality competition series Best Ink will now launch in the spring.  Both shows are produced by Bunim/Murray Productions.

Yesterday, FCC Administrative Law Judge Richard Sippel ruled in favor of Tennis Channel in its program carriage dispute against Comcast Corporation.  Judge Sippel said, “It is concluded that Tennis Channel has satisfied its burden of proving that Comcast Cable engaged in discrimination in the selection, terms or conditions of carriage on the basis of its non-affiliation with Tennis channel.”  As a result, Comcast will have to pay $375,000 and is prohibited from discriminating against Tennis by using Versus or Gold channel, which are affiliated with Comcast.  A spokesperson for Comcast said the judge’s decision is still subject to review by the full commission and the company will take the case to an appeals court if needed.
